Default Help! Need cake but no oven

I was just about to make some cakes for last nights pagan festival when Corum gently reminded the senile old bat that we haven't actually got an oven any more!
I'm gonna have to find a way of making cakes that doesn't involve using an oven. So far I've thought of fridge cakes, xmas pudding type boiled cakes, pancakes - have I missed anything?

I found this - it does say it's not exactly like cake but it sounds quite yummy!

Do you have a microwave? There's a recipe for microwave steamed puddings in the recipe section.

I like to spend solstice outside, and I have ended up at allotment again this year. My oven was a paving slab and a small fireplace of house bricks this morning.
Since you have such a ginormous garden, look up 'cob ovens'; also dutch ovens [to be buried in ash]. You might find something to improvise with.

I picked out some nice smooth fisty pebbles to add to my fire today.... after I had warmed up my water, I decided to use the broken ones next time.

    Big leaves in ash.

Old cracked cast iron cooking pots. [Aluminium will Liquefy some time after 600 celsius [which is easily acheivable] but will soften before].

    ...........but just clay I suppose

Wear eye protection just in case.

I found a yummy-looking raw cake recipe in the Joy of Vegan Baking. I haven't made it yet but it looks pretty easy--would probably take about 25 minutes to make (maybe a little more--I'm terrible at estimating). It's got a date-pecan crust with a strawberry-chocolate topping. I think it's just dates, sugar, pecans/almonds, strawberries, and optional chocolate chunks...and maybe lemon juice? I could give you the recipe if you're interested.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone, it never occurred to me to use the microwave - mind you my microwave is 15 years old and only does the top setting. I tried to follow the instructions for defrost once but they were like the instructions for building a space satellite so I threw the manual away

I'm still convinced my microwave I some kind of alien craft

Great idea for an outdoor oven whalespace, as we're eventually going off the grid we'll certainly have a go at that. It could well be very useful long term.

Another idea would be using a breadmaker. Not sure how well vegan recipes would do, but might be worth a try. Malt loaf is almost cake, too.
