    Default vegan plain chocolate digestives?

Does anyone know of where I could get vegan plain chocolate digestive biscuits? All the ones I've found contain milk powder or butterfat. I'm sure most supermarket own brands were suitable for vegans once, but I can't seem to find any now and I've had no luck in health food shops either.

i found some Jewish chocolate digestives in my local Sainsburys which just happen to be vegan because they're parev (no dairy/meat ingredients). they're really nice.

Thanks Gorilla and bryzee86, I'll look out for them. Are they in the ordinary biscuit section or the health foody section, Gorilla?

there's a kosher food section in Sainsburys and the biscuits are in there. it was the Lewes Road Brighton branch by the way, if you're going to look. it's at the back of the shop by the fresh milk (bleugh).

edit: doh, they were indeed Rakusen's, just checked

Lidl sell a weird brand called ‘Parkside’. Annoyingly, they list ‘plain chocolate’ as a basic ingredient. In none of the many languages on the packaging does is say what are the ingredients of the plain chocolate itself. They’re not listed at isitvegan.info/, so I have no idea whether they’re vegan or not. What do people on here think?

I’ve had Rakusens chocolate digestives in the past, and very good they are, too, but outside of North London they’re pretty hard to find!

i have eaten the parkside ones in the past, but yes, theres n oway of knowing (by the labelling) if they are 100% vegan.
most companies seem to label for alergies now, but there is any warning on their choc digestives, and i cant remember if they had soya in whihc seems to get mentioned as a n allergy warning.

ive never heard of the rakusens but now i NEED them!!!

I don't know if this is OK to post a link to another forum, but I got really excited and disappointed so thought I would post it - according to a person on here the choc digestives from Lidl AREN'T suitable for vegans (see post #55).

    Might need more evidence, but...

Cut and pasted from two websites, just first couple I found.

    http://www.leaveitout.com/articles/a...?article_id=39

Since November 2005, food labelling laws ensure all pre-packed food sold in the UK and European Union (EU) lists any milk or milk based products they contain. This includes cow, goat, sheep and buffalo milk. This is very helpful – just beware there may be some food still on the shelves that was produced before November 2005. You also need to be wary of food that has been imported from outside the UK and EU.

    http://www.barnet.gov.uk/food-labelling-and-composition

The presence of the certain ingredients must be clearly stated on the labelling as they are allergens, for example milk, certain nuts, soybeans. They can be stated in the name of the food or identified by wording such as “This food contains the following allergens”. For the full list of allergens contact the Food Safety team or visit the Food Standards Agency website at: www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthissues/foodintolerance

Okaies, so I e-mailed Rakusens and this is what they said:

    Thank you for your e-mail.

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties in purchasing our products. We have currently been involved in a trade dispute with Tesco's, and as a result have decided to stop supplying them. However we do sell a range of Rakusens Products to Sainsbury's, Morrison's, and Asda which you should be able to purchase in your local stores.
Rakusens can only access depot information. To check which stores our Chocolate Digestives are available in, please telephone the customer services telephone numbers below. Also if you speak to the Customer Services Help Desk in your local stores and quote the below product number, they can order you stock from there depots.

    Sainsbury's Free Phone Number 0800 636 262 Sainsbury's Product Number: 0781/0634
    Morrison's Phone Number 0845 611 611. Morrisons Product Number: 0185860
Asda Free Phone Number 0500 100 055. Asda Product Number: 5701054

As an alternative, you can purchase our products from Ocado's home shopping site, www.ocado.com. Ocado will deliver a majority of our products direct to your door. There are also two Deli's, one in London and one in Manchester that will deliver Rakusens products via a mail order service.

I wouldn't look up kosherdeli if I were you, it only seems to sell meat (ugh) but here is the link for the biscuits on the titanics site:

Just a little update, finally got this today from Titanics!

    Hi,

Could you please let me know which of your biscuits are suitable for
vegans, that is, the ones that don't contain any animal products - animal
fat (though I'm sure none of your biscuits contain that!), eggs, milk,
    butter, cream etc.
    Many Thanks,
    Anna

    and the reply!

    Anna

Sorry for the delay but I wanted to be sure that i gave you the correct
    information.

I have found that all the Rakusens biscuits are Vegan, even though they do
not say so. Most of the American biscuits, gefen, liebers etc are ok,
however they are produced in factories that use eggs in certain
productions so state that they may contain traces of eggs.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Regards
