It's dated Nov 2004, but it's still interesting! Wonder what it's been used in, if anything?
I don't miss butter though, Organic Pure spread is too good! My brother now eats it instead of dairy butter too, he likes it so much. Sooo creamy!
Nope.Miss the taste of butter?
Me neither. I started refusing to eat butter about 4 years before I even went veggie, it used to make me feel ill (just butter, no other dairy products, strangely enough). Yuck!
My brother told me on the phone tonight that he's stopped eating dairy (for health reasons only, apparently it's really bad for MS). He's started using the Pure sunflower spread instead and loves it. So yay!

was thinking it may be nice for fudge - get a bit fed up of everything tasting like vanilla

Mmmmm, vanilla is good Vava, do you have a recipe for fudge?!

I use PURE! Its a Lifesaver, I LOVE IT and its nice. Makes perfect toast. I am chuffed. A Happy Vegan at the mo! hehehe
Animals don't: Smoke, Drive, Wear Make-up, Use paint, Drink Alcohol, Drop bombs. Because we do, why should they suffer?
Not so great for fudge/sugar work thou, PURE has a very high water content.
Marks and Spencer do a vegan margarine that does pretty much taste like butter. (admittedly my memories of butter might be a bit old!) That's the full-fat version, not the low-fat version, btw.
I kissed a duck - and I liked it
Pure margarine tastes good, but not as good as butter. I'm interested to know what this M&S one is too.
The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well
It's been too long - I don't remember what true butter tastes like. But I got my family converted to Earth Balance spread which they say tastes real similar. Either way, it's pretty tasty stuff!
Tomor Margarine (block, not in a tub) is brilliant - very buttery tasting. Not sure how widely available it is as its Kosher. Makes brill pastry, crumbles etc and tastes nice on toast. We bought a load of it for our wedding caterers to use and none of our guests noticed the difference!
Manchester has all the best vegan kosher stuff in supermarkets, like chocolate digestives. You can give up any hope of finding it in Yorkshire

The M&S one is own-brand and just called 'dairy-free sunflower spread'. It is usually in the same fridge case as the butter and a few other margarines. (Which is a pain in the arse to find in the Norwich branch, btw)
I miss Tomor - used to be able to get it when I lived in Coventry, but nowhere in Nottingham has it.
I kissed a duck - and I liked it
We can get Tomor from Tesco (Altrincham) and Tesco online and its also appeared occasionally in Manchester City Centre Tesco. I think you can order it online - I did look for it once - but you had to buy a whole case from specialist Kosher supplier (can't remember the name). Its made by Rakusens if you want to have a look. Sorry, I'm not much use on this one!
I used to hate butter when i was omni, but I love pure soya spread on toast now
So wait, what are we suggesting for fudge making then?
I used to love butter, far too much on everything (filling crumpets right up etc) but I went straight to pure sunflower and it tastes almost exactly the same as the butter I used to buy, acts the same and everything, it's just got a slightly nutty extra flavour that adds to its charm
has any one heard of nuttelex i'm vegan bit i really missed butter and i found this and it's great!
looks like you got to be in Oz for that one!

*runs and checks fridge* Tomor! Yeah, that's what i just got from Sainsburys in Harrogate. Only tried it once so far, but thought it was ok. I just got it cos it was 54p and i wondered what it would be like
nuttelex- oz for this one unless you have some in your fridge wildcatstrike

um, well i'm not sure if nuttelex is only in aus, but i'm sure they would have different variations of it anywhere, if you look at some healthy cholesterol free butters quite a few are vegan friendly because they are made with sunflower olis and such.
I hate the title of this thread, every time I see it I imagine eating butter, on it's own, and it makes me feel sick.

Am I the only one on this forum that has the posts back to front so that new ones appear on the top when you open the thread?
That makes all the carets look weird..... looks like they refer to the wrong post.

You might well be
Had a quick read through and noticed Suma Organic Sunflower Spread hasn't been mentioned. As an omni I hated most margarines and this was the first one I tried that I really liked and is very buttery. It was a really helpful transition product for me when I turned vegan, but I don't often buy it now, however, because it's very expensive (around £2.70 in my neck of the woods).
Although Pure IMHO isn't as good, it's what I use daily. At around £1 it's an absolute bargain.
find Pure sunflower (not soya) far and away the best it even goes clear when melted into crumpets
If I sink to the bottom I can run to the shore.
I get my Tomor (for flaky/puff pastry etc) from Prestwich Sainsbury's - so it seems to be available in several supermarkets. I presume it is usually in those branches that have a specialist Kosher Section, though.
Maybe once. But one thing I really hated before going vegan was sour cream. For someone who's still currently eating sour cream (not something that would work for someone who's already vegan), probably the thing that will put you off of it will be to put it on a kiwi fruit and then eat them together. It is just awful.
I had this taste combination by mistake as a child. I pretty much never wanted sour cream again (not to mention that it made me feel awful in the throat even before that, as dairy affects me especially negatively - double whammy).

Not to start a big row but I have to put my point across... I used to buy the soya pure but I recently tried the sunflower pure and I prefer the sunflower one......there I've said it.
Yay for another person who appreciates quality

^ i had the soya Pure first because it was the only one i could get, and then when i tried the sunflower one i thought it was horrible. so in my case perhaps it's preferring what you're used to.

I think the it's what you're used to factor is a big issue here.
I was always used to a particular brand of Irish spreadable butter before becoming vegan and nothing else would do and the sunflower Pure is so similar to that
