    Default Soil Improvers

I have had my allotment for 1 1/2 years now and the soil is quite heavy clay. We have over half the area as raised beds. Unfortunately, our compost bins haven't provided anywhere near enough to cover it.
So I was wondering if you have any advice on green manures or other methods of soil improvement. Many thanks

try your local council for their soil improver they usually sell it in bags or if you have a trailer you can buy it by the tonne for about 5quid. it pretty good used in conjunction with other things. I know you cant gaurentee its organic, but the stock piles at the depots reach such temperatures they are likely to be disease free. This will improve the organic content and structure of the soil (you can buy loads as its cheap!!)

I also grow comfry and nettles specifically for green manure, usually 50/50 blend in water (put them in a disused water butt for a couple of months) and use the water as a feed.

I also buy powdered seaweed and apply to the specific areas at time of planting.
    I dont get crunchy people?

I chuck guinea pig poo on my garden. I have 7 guinea pigs and they produce an unbelievable amount of poo so I just sweep it up and it goes on the garden. It must do some good because I saw them use rabbit poo on some gardening programme

Wow VBB, £5 a tonne!!?? My local council sell it for £5 a bag They charge £40 a year to supply a wheelie bin which they collect fortnightly full of garden waste, let it rot down, then sell it back for 5 quid a bag .
I really want to grow some comfrey next year
