Default Oven as dehydrator/raw food temperatures?

Just wondering... can I use my oven as a dehydrator? Set it to the lowest temperature (50°C, I think)?

Which brings me to my next question... I've read that food can be warmed ever so slightly and still be considered raw... what's the max temperature that food can be heated to before it is considered cooked?

    Thanks in advance!

ani = turn oven to lowest setting till it gets warm then turn off104 degrees is warm to the touch - place your item for drying in the oven till it cools then warm the oven again as before and keep repeating until the food is dry.

She says that a dehydrator is nice but not a luxury but it is helpful for things like crackers unless you like your stuff with lots of water.

i don't know anything about dehydrating food, but on the blog link that i sent you, fiamma, the blog writer talks about her own experiments with dehydrating food (amongst many other experiments)

    Must be my computer, piggy.

I caved and ordered the Jen Cornbleet book, hope it's good.
I also bought an Italian raw food book yesterday, can't wait to start reading

Yeah I went on an Alyssa Cohen course where I learnt you can use your oven but on the lowest setting and leave the door open and on it rest a fan pointing inside the oven. But I haven't tried it out as it seems an obscene waste of energy and I'm also worried that my cats would feel like crawling in when I wasn't there.

I think even on the lowest setting if you leave an oven door open the oven will get through masses of fuel as the thermostat won't reach the required temperature.

Thanks everyone, agreed about the oven and the obscene amounts of fuel... leaving it on for 12 hours,,, what???

I think I'm gonna cave and buy a dehydrator; I had some live pasta tonight and it was just ace (those two facts aren't really connected in any way but what the hell )

    Thanks guys
