H&B buy Julian Graves

It actually happened a couple of weeks ago. Holland & Barrett have bought out Julian Graves.

They're not very exciting. Most useful thing they sell is loads of sorts of turkish delight (all labelled vegan). Other than that it's nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and herbs.

Not a burger or sausage in sight.

yes i found them quite disappointing. they sell quite a lot of sweets but they're all 'normal' with gelatine and stuff. no veg*n specialities.

Yeah, I thought those shops are quite crap. I saw a Julian Graves in London and though "ooh" and then walked in, walked around the shop and walked straight out again.

(Those pink wafer biscuits sound nice though!)

I buy a lot of dried fruit and nuts from JG, but I think all the sweets I looked at had gelatine in. Even the licorice wasn't vegan, I think it had beeswax or something, I'll check next time I'm in there.
As far as I can remember,the only sweet type thing I buy there is sesame snaps.

they also stock some of the 'normal' vegan chocolates, plus cheap but very tasty turkish delight which was vegan last time I checked.

Mmmm, fruit jellies.
I thought lactic acid was from milk. I must have looked at them and put them back for that reason. Now I know better I can see fruit jellies becoming a major part of my diet.
I've tried the coconut ice, but it tastes a bit funny to me. I prefer the Oskri coconut bars from H&B.

Hmm, I kind of hope they leave JG stores as they are. This is purely out of concern for my local health food shop at home that would get f***ed over if there was a H&B on our high street.

I only remember my mum bringing home big bags of dried apricots and nuts from there (they used to always taste a bit stale)

I got sacked from Julian Graves. Holland and Barratt, pah. At least some stuff is more expensive compared to the same food I can get in other places. I hardly set foot in it. Much prefer to go to Nima delicatessen, Indigo and One Earth Shop to them.

I went into JG in Leeds today to buy some of their fruit jellies, which are really tasty

Was surprised to see that, unfortunately, they've done away with their really helpful vegan labelling. I asked about this and the guy I spoke to (who was actually vegan himself) explained it was something to do with the sh**ty new food labelling regulations or something Because he was vegan, obviously he was very helpful and could tell me what was and was not suitable (and if he's reading this, then thank you very much!)

It's so annoying though - just feels like one big step backwards

this seems to be the excuse for a lot of vegan labelling being removed recently but i don't know what these 'new regulations' are - i haven't heard anything official

I bought some fruit jellies for the first time today.
By my calculations they are about 18Kcal each.
Forget the isotonic drinks, energy bars and power gels. Fruit jellies are the new bicycle fuel.
