Default Off to Frankfurt this week - any ideas?

Work's sending me out to Frankfurt this Thursday (coming back Saturday) and I was wondering what chance there is of me eating vegan food out there?

I'm helping out putting our company's stand up at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Accomodation isn't a problem, neither is the beer as that's all sorted but if there's anything I can eat that doesn't involve a long trek from the Ibis Hotel Frankfurt West, that would be a bonus!

    That bad is it?

I have noticed... it is incredibly hard getting anything vegan... unless you like salad

At least I`m home tomorrow - missing hemlock like mad

Have a safe journey back Corum

Hemlock will have lots of nice vegan food waiting for ya and not a lettuce leaf in sight!

    You're right there - salad isn't food, it's garnish

Hope you didn't waste away, Corum.

There do seem to be quite a number of German vegetarians so I'd have thought it might have been better than that.

    Little chance of that Harpy!

the food in Germany revolves mainly around meat or cheese – neither of which fill me with any great hope.

My principles had to take a slight *movement* but I didn't succumb to either meat or fish...

The rest of the guys in the party, including my boss, were very considerate with regards to choice of pubs/restaurant we went to (so they didn't go to Wurst bars). Unlike the so-called vegetarians in the party (an elderly couple) - first restaurant we went to on Thursday night, one of them ordered veal!!! They seemed to be under the rather misguided impression that meat over there is any better treated than it is in the rest of Europe... so they had a right ham binge. I almost hurled at that point!

They then proceeded to quiz ME on everything that I could eat (their clucking round me got unbearable) - the silliest being at breakfast on the last day, "can you eat bananas?"

Hemlock and I are going back out there for the markets in December and we should be able to eat vegan quite happily as we're going to the markets, etc.

When I went to Frankfurt, I ate in Indian restaurants. They tend to have veggie options and are usually helpful to cater to special requirements. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of restaurants or the location.

    Sorry, I'm useless!!

    Good idea Kiran...

Corum's going out there again on Sunday, so he might try and persuade the guys to have a curry after they've taken the stand down...

Whenever I travel to places that aren't known to be vegan friendly I always look out for Indian or Far Eastern restaurants as they usually have something that can be veganised.

Naturbar in Frankfurt does veggie food and it looks as if they'll to do vegan options and there's also a veggie place called Esszimmer:

Problem I have though... is that I'm the only vegan in the party, so I would reckon majority rules. If I was travelling with Hemlock, that would be fine (as we are later this year).
