    Default Coconut buying advice

Today I went to make a raw soup with a fresh coconut and it had gone off!!! One of THE most disgusting things I have ever tasted...

So is there a way to tell if a coconut is off when you buy it? I bought it less than a week ago; I know coconut milk in cans has to be used within a couple of days of opening; should fresh coconuts be used as soon as they're bought?

    Any tips greatly appreciated!

Don't. They travel and extreme amount of miles just to make it to you.

^ Probably. But so do bananas and oranges... etc etc... to most people in the world!

How do you know I'm not sunning myself on a Caribbean beach?
Good point sniv, but I think Ella has a point too.

How many Caribbean beaches do they have in Italy?

I'm just one for not buying food from a different country, not to be preachy or anything. But I guess I can't say that without sounding preachy, so.......*does the Jedi mind trick hand wave* I was never here.

Yes I feel insanely bad about eating foods from other countries And yet here in Canada, being allergic to the only things that grow here (potatoes and tomatoes), it would be a death wish not to eat imported foods.

I know. It's really hard to eat local all year round here in Vancouver too. We don't have the Greenhouse capacity, so therefore if we want oranges, bananas, avocados, tomatoes, etc....we have to eat them imported from California or Mexico or somewhere else.

I ate a Canadian tomato this morning. It was yummy. In Washington right now, also not too many things are in season, but Canada's pretty close!

Quantum, uh, can I get some of those Tomatoes? Cause the ones here IN canada taste like garbage water.

It was organic, which I hear may help with taste...? Though still not as good as the tomatoes we grew accidentally back at my parents house a few years ago, which was actually totally accidentally veganic and organic I'm pretty sure, since we didn't use any other fertilizer or pesticide or kill bugs. Those were the best tomatoes I'd ever had.

One time I accidentally grew watermelons and pumpkins in my backyard. I was too afraid to eat them... what if my dog pooped on them and has disease? or my dad sprayed chemicals on them? LOL... Still pretty cool!
