Where? When?
Well, that's the point - it wouldn't take much organisation
I'm in Bologna but am willing to travel
I'm pathologically shy, but I guess I could try and "farmi forza"...
Oh no, don't be shy
Do you know any other vegans in Milan, or in Italy?
Bump???
I know I have no right to place any expectations on people when it comes to meetups, I suppose I'm just a bit disappointed there hasn't been more interest in the idea.
Oh well. Whatever.
You're right when you say there aren't many Italian members on the board. But there are some. Having been to a couple of meetups in London and having met some wonderful vegans in the flesh rather than online, I have to say that it's wonderful actually being able to talk to people who are on the same wavelength and who don't question the very concepts we as vegan take for granted (like not doing harm through our dietary and other choices). I find being vegan in Italy very alienating and was hoping there would be others in the same situation.
Maybe we should meet when something else is also happening that we were planning to do.
I mean,
if there was some sort of vegan event we were planning to go, and I think there'll be many this year,
then we could organize and meet there and it'd be less awkward.
Personally i'm on a VERY tight budget and I have an old dog who
can't
come with me if I drive, so even taking a day off and travelling
to a new city just "for pleasure" is something I can't take lightly right now.
If I could get "2 piccioni con 1 fava" and meet some vegans AT a vegan event,
that would make my trip even more worthwhile and it'd just be one journey.
I think there are a few events in Florence and Milan this year.
let's find out !
TBH though VC... if we wait until we're all planning to attend a vegetarian event IN ITALY to get together, we might all be drawing our pensions..
Sounds like a good idea in theory, in practice it's doomed to failure IMO.
Back to the drawing board...
Pensions? What pensions? I don't think we'll ever get one here in Italy, we're all screwed
Actually I'm waiting for the announcement of "Veganch'io" that usually takes place near Milan in May. I wanted to attend, but still no news...
"Still no news..." Sorry, but that's just my point. It IS almost April
It's not your fault, Loss. It's just that Italy is a big, black hole as far as veg*nism is concerned.

Italy sounds a bit like Northern Ireland..........vegan wise!
I like Sandra, she keeps making me giggle. Daft little lady - Frosty
LoL Sandra, you may be right Are there more pigs than people in your area too? (Poor pigs I won't say what they sell in our local pet shop - I had to pick my jaw up off the ground )
It's so cool that you're coming to Bologna Declan, I think you made the right choice between the cities you mentioned. And we can definitely sort something out for when you come over, it'll be great to meet you
Meanwhile, hmmm, Bologna vegans... there must be some out there somewhere....
Well, because it's my country, you know *sigh*
Except traditional southern italian cooking is quite vegan-friendly, even though italians aren't (it's weird, I know ) - I always, ALWAYS get the "But you MUST put mozzarella on your pizza!" comment.
Now I'm curious...
Declan, I'm glad you chose Bologna - good luck with your Erasmus!
I'm actually from North-East Italy (where recipes mainly consist of fish, cheese, fish, cheese, and more fish... they even put butter in their polenta!) but I'll be happy to share my humble cooking skills
Why, oh why did you mention potatoes! I'd so eat some vegan colcannon right now. But I already had dinner. And breakfast is so faraway! Must... resist... cookies binge!
I've just had Bubble and Squeak (potatoes, onion and cabbage all fried until it's golden brown!
I've just looked up a recipe for colcannon and it's almost identical!

Potato and cabbage are just meant to be eaten together I had them twice with buckwheat pasta last week. Yum. And I'm so making these as soon as I buy potatoes.
I've never tried potato with pasta before!
How did your colcannon puffs turn out?
I like Sandra, she keeps making me giggle. Daft little lady - Frosty
Sandra! You MUST try potatoes with pasta!
This is one of my fav. recipes.
You must use a special kind of buckwheat pasta called PIZZOCCHERI.
Then boil cabbage and potatoes separately, cut the spuds in chunks.
When both pasta and potatoes are ready, pour over them some
soy cream and you've got a superb first course.
Here's what it looks like:

That does look lovely Vegetarian Cat!
I'll look out for that pasta and give it a go!

Unfortunately, I still suffer from lack of potatoes
I second vegetarian_cat. "Pizzoccheri alla valtellinese" are a heaven of creamy goodness! I don't use soy cream though, I smother them in nutrional yeast and almond powder. Yum.
If you can't find pizzoccheri you could try with soba, I guess.
Fiamma e altre italiane/i all'ascolto.
