Thread: Vegan Food comes to Saffron Walden!!!!

Thumbs up Vegan Food comes to Saffron Walden!!!!

I was so excited to discover that a new cafe has just opened in Saffron Walden that caters for Vegans! It is well worth a visit. It's called "Saffron, Wholefoods for sensitive souls". They have a great selection of paninis and cakes, with many clearly labelled as vegan. They also cater for gluten free diets.
We tried the banana cake, which was served warm with soya cream...delish!
They also sell a few vegan goodies in the little shop, such as booja booja truffles, vegan pesto, and egg free mayo.
Saffron Walden is such a "meaty" place, that its great to find a gem like this.
It's opposite the Temeraire on the High Street.

WOW! Firstly, someone else from Saffron Walden! And that place sounds awesome, I have such trouble when I go into Saffron Walden, I'm actually from a little village 20 minutes out.

That sounds good - is it mainly sandwiches or do they do cooked food as well? (As ever I'm on the look out for vegan-friendly places to go to with my Essex-based m-in-l but she does like a cooked lunch!)

Perhaps a suitable venue for a meetup then?

It seemed to be mostly soups, paninis, wraps, cakes etc. I saw someone with an interesting looking bowl of falafels with sauce though!
Thry have a very basic website http://www.saffron-cafe.co.uk/
As it has only just opened, I don't know if there are any plans to expand the choices in the future.
For hot food, the eight bells in Saffron Walden and the Coach and Horses in Newport are both very good, but they do need prior warning. We often eat at the Coach and Horses and always make sure we give 24 hours notice. We tend to leave the food choice up to them as we love to be surprised (and luckily all of the surprises have been good ones so far!!!!!)

Thank you Crafterga. We should add both of these to the list. My m-in-l is going to have to eat a lot of lunches

We did actually take her to Saffron Walden for a weekend a few years ago but I can't remember what we did about food. I don't seem to have starved but nor do I remember any fancy vegan meals!

Amazing ! I grew up with Saffron Walden as my nearest town, and can't image a place less-likely to cater for vegan.
Its seems that the world is moving on, even in deepest Essex.
I live a long way from there now, but it's good to hear of it none the less.

Does this place still exist? I was living in Cambridgeshire last year and went to Saffron Walden and couldn't find it. When I asked in the tourist info office they said they thought it had closed.
