Mix caramel desserts with agave nectar or golden syrup.
Makes a lovely caramel sauce for ice cream.
Then pour over some of that chocolate sauce that sets hard.

I just got some nommy things from H&B. A strawberry cheesecake, a couple of packs of the Granose nut roast mix and vegetable and sunflower seed burger mix, their own brand sausages with the herbs in (these make the best sausage sandwiches ever) and Tofutti sour cream.
Blackmail is such an ugly word. I prefer "extortion". The "X" makes it sound cool.
i popped in today as its buy one get one half price so had a cheap lunch of sosmix roll and whole earth cola. the sos roll was very dry and tasteless. I much prefer linda mccartneys or homemade sosmix in puff pastry really!
Got some Fry's beef strips and some Realeat vegan chicken pieces.
Fry's stuff tastes a bit too meaty for me (got them more for my veggie boyf). But crisped up in a salad pita with hummus... Yum
I'm tempted to splash out on some expensive stuff like wheatgrass/spirulina/coconut oil just to make use of the offer..
Had a steakless and onion pastry in H&B today. It was really tasty and moist.

the St Albans shop has been having trouble with their fridge, so now lunch pastries recently
Actually I just found the box and the horrible ones I had were Fudge.

I have tried those Nana's cookie bites - Fudge..I thought it would be really nice like the Dove's Farm ones but I was wrong..I'm image it's like eating sand..luckierly I had brought some Lovely Fudge cubes to cheer me up afterwards.
I'd like to try the Tofutti Rock N Roll cones but I don't really want to end up throwing them away..what are your opinions on them?
They're pretty good, but the cone strangely soggy, which is kinda off putting

They're a good replacement for the cornetto-style junkage. I agree that the cones are often soggy, although it won't stop me eating them. In fact, Mr Spud and I devoured a whole box of them when we were out one day.
No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.
Do you think the soggy cones is due to Holland and Barrett letting them defrost a little too much, and the cones getting damp at that point? The freezer unit in my local one is always breaking down.
Quitting something because it's hard is wrong, and quitting something because it's wrong is hard. One takes cowardice, the other bravery.
No - I've never had a non soggy one - from H&B or other shops. For this reason I don't buy them very often.

I think it might be something to do with the not coating of the inside of the cones in production before putting the ice cream in. In some dairy brands of cone, they line the inside with chocolate to stop that happening.

Tofutti Rock N Roll cones when they first came out were lovely, but then I used to buy them from an independent store in Cambridge. I don't know if they have changed the recipe or it's to do with how H&B store/transport them but they are always soggy now. Swedish glace are the same.
Shame, nothing better on a hot summers day.
I quite like the soggy chewyness...I used to leave my cornettos for a while so they got soggy too in my pre-vegan days so it is not the veganism making me weird.
has anyone else treated themselves to a H&B easter egg? I bought one a few weeks back and it's so difficult resisting eating it till next weekend lol... it looks lovely, has a box of mint chocs in with it too.
I didn't get the Celtic one with the mints, but the mostly white box "Dairy Free" one, for the man (I'm eating a rabbit, vegan of course ).
^ I got the Celtic Easter Egg and it is proving hard to resist.
H and B
Well i think its very expensive to shop there, firstly.
They sell 2 types of vegan cheese at my local ones, they sell lovely Frys vegan sausages and loads of Alpro yoghurts etc.
The best things they sell are the Frys range and thats wondrous stuff
:D :)
I went into H & B today and I got Fry's burgers, hazelnut milk, cheddar cheezly, yeast pate and a veggie sausage roll. I didn't get a cheesecake though! I should have done.
My nearest H&B have got rid of their fridge and seem to be turning themselves into a GNC in all but name

^ I hope that doesn't happen to my local shop.
I went back again today and bought the mango and passionfruit cheesecake, Redwood bacon rashers, Tofutti cheddar cheese slices, 2 jars of Plamil mayo and a veggie sausage roll.
You're doing your bit then BC! Sounds as if yours is better stocked than ours as well, don't think I've seen the cheesecake.
I must check ours doesn't have it, though I don't really need a new vice. What make is it?
The make is Mamma Cucina, it has non-dairy or dairy free written on it.
The cheesecake is okayish I guess but it is a bit dear. I wish the base was a bit more biscuity and the tiny strawberry slices on top are pretty funny.
Thanks, BC - will have a look as OH is a big fan of cheesecake (though he doesn't really need a new vice either). ETA that I view Tofutti stuff with suspicion as they use hydrogenated vegetable oils (or used to), but let's face it we're not talking health food here.
The cheesy slice things use partially hydrogenated oils (see here) but I think most other products in the range that contain oil contain cold pressed oils (such as the spreads)
Mama Cucina cheesecake ingedients and nutritional info here
That's good to know Zero - I'm sure they used to have it in the fake cream cheeses which is why I've been avoiding them for years but now I - may not
Must admit I shovelled one of the cheesecakes into my basket at lunchtime without even bothering to look at the ingredients. How suggestible am I? Was in a bit of a rush though.
A tv advert i saw last night said over 100 products are half price at h n b right now.
:D :)
I went in there yesterday and I didn't notice the half-price things, but I did notice a number of "three for the price of two" offers, and as before it doesn't have to be three things the same.
This may sound like a daft question, but is H & B a conventional chain or are the stores run by franchisees?
From Sutton, Surrey, (or Greater London when they want to fleece me for the Olympics)
It's a franchise.

Jiffy, thats just the same as my branch and I live in Bedfordshire, there always seems to be something wrong with the fridge freezer
May all creatures be well, may they be happy and may they be at peace.
The fridge is always packing up here in Didcot as well!
Blackmail is such an ugly word. I prefer "extortion". The "X" makes it sound cool.
The fridge in my local H&B is always on the blink too!
I've seen lotsa knackered fridge/freezers round here too.
maybe all h&b shops everywhere use the same substandard fridge and freezer providing company because i'm telling you now the one in wakey (especially) AND the one in dewsbury have conked out various times. and that's bad news.
ahronli sed ah dunit so thid tek thuh cheyus graytuh offa mi nihbles
Same here. They could do with a bulk order of working freezers.
With all the waste they would be avoiding, it would save money in the long run.
Conked-out fridge/freezers? - oooh, we dream of a conked-out fridge/freezer here in Salisbury. H&B the size of a broom cupboard with no fresh/frozen section at all, and two-thirds of the blasted place turned over to weightlifting drink mixes anyway...
