I use it for any recipes that call for honey. I was never a huge honey eater anyway but as far as I can tell, there really is not much taste difference. It's very yummy.
I use it, too, as a sweetener or if a recipe calls for agave nectar. I only have vegan cookbooks (except for one that includes honey but was supposed to be vegan), so I haven't really substituted for honey yet.
i sometimes use agave as a sweetener in my home-made soya milk. i've been using apple juice concentrate recently though because it's cheaper.

Oh I love this stuff, its good on yogurt with nuts, in tea, over ice cream, on buttered toast, mmmmmm. I think its better than honey. I remember honey as bieng way to sweet and almost sick tasting, but agave nectar is a nice balance, although its a little thinner. Ive only had the light kind, not the dark

yum! I'm so excited about using it
I checked out some of the other articles on that site...there was one that sort of bashed vegetarianism/veganism ...saying its not healthy...and that meat doesnt raise heart disease...and so on...check it out...

oooooh yeeeeeeeah
This stuff is tasty - i think you will very much enjoy acquainting yourself with Agave Nectar !
My fella reckons this tastes just like he remembers honey being, but i think it's substantially nicer.
When i used to eat honey i wasn;t especially wild about it and always preferred syrup, but to me Agave Nectar is like all of the best things about honey combined with a slight sort of butterscotch sauce sort of flavour.
It's really nice if you pour it over a decadent fruit salad-dessert thing - ie dates, bananas, pecans a little nut butter and agave nectar.
mmmmmmm
Yummy !
I love just a bit in my tea. It really brightens the flavours without adding that thick, heavy taste that honey used to give.
I just got some today. its pretty tasty! a little lighter then i remember honey to be.
cant wait to try some hot agave/lemon tea
...doh! forgot lemons!

Yes, it's pretty darned good. I also use it as a replacement for maple syrup in recipes.
yum yum yum.
i love agave nectar.
i used to get lemonaid from a restaurant who made their fresh squeezed lemonaid with agave nectar for sweetness. it was yummy.
i usually use it in place of honey like most of the rest of the posters.

I really like agave nectar! It's sweet and also has a pleasant tartness to it. I sometimes put a spoon of it in my bowl of cereal, or use it when I make pancakes.

Agave nectar is the next wonder of the world. I first discovered it at a juice bar as an alternative to honey. Before, I was having my smoothies made with molasses and it was just so heavy for my smoothie but I was not doing honey so I lived with it. One day the owner of the juice bar suggested Agave nectar as she herself just discovered it and was adding it as a sweenter choice at the juice bar. Now that I've found it at Whole Foods I make my own smoothies. It's so awesome.Yoggy

I've never heard of it - what is it?
Dynamic Harmlessness
It's a thin syrup that looks like clear honey, and like Urban Vegan mentions, it IS awesome. Really tasty, and not over-bearing like honey is!

Thank you, I will have to try this! Looks great!!!

I hear they have it in Brighton...
I always feel bad about using it because I'm afraid I'll run out, so I usually just put some on my finger and chow down that way But I recently bought a HUGE bottle of it...we'll see how long it lasts!
I have that problem too, I just bought a bottle recently, and already quite a bit of it is gone! The store here doesn't carry huge bottles of it, otherwise I'd buy one too...

So, are there any nutritional/health benefits of agave? Has anyone ever seen something where it's compared to maple syrup or brown rice syrup? Out of those three.. which is the best choice? i would guess agave just because it seems more plant-based.. or something. heh, i don't know what i mean. :P
oh yeah, also.. how is it pronounced?? is it ah-gah-vay or is it ah-gave?
I love agave nectar. I use it in smoothies I buy the larger bottle at Whole Foods.DancingWillow

I just bought some today!!!!
I already tasted some--yum. They had two kinds; light and amber. I bought the amber one. I can't wait until I feel like tea so I have it in my tea.

I've never tried it in a smoothie! Now I want a smoothie with agave nectarUrbanVegan

eh? what's wrong with maple syrup? or do you just prefer Agave?null_void
I was a big honey fan, for me agave nectar is a good substitute, not as tasty as really good honey though.

You got it right, I just prefer agave.
Ohhhhh it's divineeeeeee. I would make one now except my blender brokeDancingWillow
I don't use honey and I needed something to replace corn syrup and molasses since they were just too sweet. Agave nectar gives the right amount of sweetness without being heavy. My sister makes an AWESOME vegan sweet potato pie. One day I'll make one using agave nectar. She uses processed sugar

I use it for baking instead of maple syrup, it helps make really light cakes.
I want to know this too!theashleybeyer
Hm.. well hopefully we find out soon roxy!! hahaha
For those of you who have tried both kinds of agave [light and amber?], which is better? Is there a distinct difference?
I'm still hoping to find SOMETHING beneficial from consuming agave.. hmm.. other than i suppose it could be helpful when cutting calories if you're used to maple syrup or other high calorie sweeteners.. i think agave has only like 60 calories for 2 tablespoons.
I think it's a-gah-vay.
Peace, love, and happiness.
nice! Thanks tigerlily
Well, I don't know for sure. But I'm just assuming. It's a Spanish word right? I know a guy who speaks Spanish, I will ask him.

What do you use in baking in place of eggs? I would not mind baking but I'm not sure how to replace the eggs.catalina
Everything I eat has its beginnings in a seed.
You can mash 1 medium banana to replace 1 egg. Or there is a brand called AllergyCare which make egg replacer, Vegan Society trademarked too
What is agave nextar made from? Agave plants at a guess?
Agave is a type of cactus and agave nectar is derived from it.Glen

My bottle says 60 calories for 1 tablespoon. I don't know if that's a lot or not. Regular sugar has 16 calories for a teaspoon. So I guess it's roughly the same for agave as for sugar.theashleybeyer

I've tried agave syrup. I don't know if they're the same thing.
I read somewhere that agave nectar is sweeter so you need less of it than sugar, but I don't know about any other health benefits...

I've seen cactus plant in farmer's markets. I bought one once and didn't like the taste of it and could not figure how you cook it or prepare it. It reminded me of an aloe plant.DancingWillow

Thanks for the pronounciation tip, Tigerlily!
I don't normally use egg replacers, although I know many people do. Many vegan cake recipes use oil, bananas, or a ground up flaxseed and water combination. I use oil.UrbanVegan
btw, Spanish is my native tongue, but I've never heard of it before becoming vegan. I suspect it's a new world plant, rather than a European one.
Brought some Agave Nectar back from the States and tried it for the first time last night on some Swedish Glace - absolutely gorgeous!! Never seen it for sale in the UK.
I also brought back some 'Just like honey', which is rice nectar. I haven't tried it yet but will let you all know when I do
I get my agave from either Fresh & Wild or Planet Organic. Do they not sell them in Holland & Barrett?
Never seen it an H and B, although my local branch is pretty poor, they are always running out of stock, or their fridge is broken or something lol.
Agave nectar+cream of wheat cereal=YUM.
Add some cinnamon and fresh berries, it's almost like dessert!

mmmm mmm
i love me some agave nectar on my cornbread!
