3 new vegans in three days!

Quitting something because it's hard is wrong, and quitting something because it's wrong is hard. One takes cowardice, the other bravery.
Hurrah!ShopliftersVegan babies of the world, unite and take over....
CONGRATS to all babies and parents! xx
But aren't all babies born vegan til their parents screw up?
Congrats to the good parents ;-)
the only animal ingredient in my food is cat hair
Ohhhh that's wonderful gogs!
But babies can't be vegan since they drink milk! Seriously, congratulations to all the families.
babies drink milk? what kind of milk are you talking about?
Oh God, not another ridiculous "Is breast milk vegan?" debate .
As long as it doesn't turn into a "Is eating the placenta vegan?" debate...
Seems a bit mean to hold the baby responsible for the parents' pre-natal choices though
True... but the same can be said for most little children?
PS. Who eats the placenta?!
Breast milk is absolutely vegan. It is what human babies are *supposed* to drink! Certainly nobody is being harmed; not the mother, not any animals, not the environment. I'll bet vegan breast milk, as long as the mother is making sure to get enough protein, is extra nutritious!
Hi Traces,
I think what we were discussing is not whether breast milk is vegan (which of course it is!) , but more like, whether unborn children whose mums are not vegan, can be considered vegan.
The discussion was going towards "you cant blame them for what thir mum eats"... and then towards "children are not really responsible for what they eat after being born either, but that does not make them vegan"
(and then someone talked about placentas...)
Yeah I know, I'm just new and wanted to jump in with both feet.
But...it's too early in the morning to talk about placentas.

Isn't it true that human milk has less protein and fat and more lactose than cow's milk anyway, and that's one reason cows milk can contribute to childhood obesity?
It certainly tastes very different and much sweeter.
(I have tasted my own...it used to come squirting out in fountains whenever my babies cried at first, so I caught some in my hand and drank it to see what it was like...I bet the squeamish amongst you are thinking 'ewww!')

Oh no! I drank my own milk!!!
Does that mean I'm not vegan??

i think you're fine as long as you got to range freely and keep your children, kokopelli. <grin>

well...horray to vegan babies (to the thread post)
I plan to raise my children 100% vegan and eco-friendly when I have babies
and about the whether mother who ate omni meal's baby is vegan or not discussion I think it is weird to talk like this...because it's like yes human mothers are machines, we produce babies...and omni diet=omni babies?!? I don't think it's right to think like this...I mean this isn't chemical reaction or simple math...just personal opinion. (therefore I think all babies are vegan to be born with!)
Kokopelli, a work friend and I were just talking today about how she tasted her breast milk and supposes that all mothers probably have.

yea, agree with Zanahorias~~~tasting breast milk is not a horrible thing~~~
My dear friend, a vegan, gave birth to a beautiful boy four months ago. It brings back memories of when my little one was born.
The other day, my 4-year-old daughter remarked that the cow's milk her friends drink is brighter white than her soymilk . . . which brought up the issue (yet again) of why we don't drink cow's milk. She came up with two good (related) answers, one of which ties into the silly discussion above about breast milk: 1) because we're vegan and we don't take things from other animals; and 2) because we're not baby cows! My 4-year-old gets that mamas make milk for their babies. Why can't the rest of society?
