Default Uk Veggies Required For Trial

We have created an exciting internet-based information service for vegans and aspiring vegans.

I'm looking for people that may be interested in trying a free trial of the service.

If you're interested or for more info, please send me an email me at james@telestial.org .

    Thanks,
    James

Hi James this is a fair question, but like most forums this one is also a victim of spammers, they give themselves away by making the first post a non-introduction and head straight for the sale.

Although I am not a moderator in here, I am a very experienced and long converted vegan and do like to see vegan brothers and sisters get sucked into something.

I noticed you are asking people to email a commercial organisation for a free trial of something you are setting up this is very suspicious.

If I am wrong I appoligise, If your intensions are genuine then perhaps you would like to post up a little more in depth information before people start offering you their email address.

    Many thanks

    Snaffler

Sorry but this bit also cracks me up, we already have 100s of exciting information points for vegans one is about £17 - £27 a year and they send you loads of stuff and never mind you phoning with questions.

We also we have this forum which is full of all kinds of people from all backgrounds from all over the world with a wealth of good information and support - it would have to be amazing to beat what's already here.

    Guys,

I don't want to publicly post any more details about the service as I need to keep it under wraps as much as possible until it's launched.

If anyone thinks they might be interested, please send me an email and I will tell them exactly what it is.

The service *is* unique and I have had great responses so far from fellow vegans. I am now just looking for a hundred or so trialists.

About my authenticity, I have been vegan for eight years and know a few vegans around the UK (mainly from vegan camp). I've just done a google search for jhodgski vegan and it bring up a couple of my old posts from years back which suggests I'm real and that I'm not trying to sell anyone double-glazing or anything like that!

You're right tho, it would have helped to give myself a profile, so I'll get on and do that.

    Cheers,
    James

I have been sent a PM from James, So like Gertvegan said PM him, that is far safer, sorry I am not convinced James, yes the service is nothing dodgy but we already have 2 massive free web site services that are run by professional/respected vegans (if their is such a thing) for vegans and it is 100% free.

Call us cynical but not many people who live on specialist diets trust commercial orgs with other interests to sell us products, in a nut shell we wouldn't do a weeks meat free shopping at KFC or Burger King if they opened a veggie supermarket....

James please PM on how you intend to get your information and how reliable it is, I respect your wishes of keeping to people who PM you but what makes you qualified to guide vegans on vegan diets.

    Snaffler,

I don't understand why you are so against me and my project. I appreciate that my post may have looked a little suspicious at first, but I don't know why you are maintaining your stance.

My service is not a simple web database like the two sites I think you are talking about (which I presume is the isitvegan.info and the Vegan Society online database). As you will have seen from my website, my service has loads more indispensable features.

I had the idea for such an information service years ago, and I am not doing it to try and get rich. It's a pro-vegan service - it makes it easier for vegans to be vegans and it makes it much easier for vegetarians to make the transition to veganism.

I know you want to make me out to be the villian, but consider whether you are really helping veganism with your comments.

I've spoken to over a dozen vegans (including people at The Vegan Society) about my service, and they all think it's a great idea and they would all pay to use it. You are in a tiny minority.

At the end of the day, some vegan things are free, some vegans things aren't free. And just because my service falls into the latter group (as I have to cover my costs) it doesn't mean you have to aliken me to a hamburger chain.

The service is my contribution to veganism, and (whether you like it or not) I'd appreciate it if you would stop obstructing it and let it serve it's pro-vegan purpose.

    James

PS - To answer your question, the information within the system comes from reliable sources and is of course updated frequently.

no offence Snaffler but i personally think you're being a little hard on this guy. i know it can be hard to know who to trust on the internet but i'd be willing to give it some thought anyway

OK James I am sorry your statement has convinced me, lets just say I personally got sucked in by someone making a similar statement 12 months ago in the end I had to re-new my email address as I was being spammed 200+ email a week from various telecommunications comapnies claiming the world. If I tried to unsubscribe I would end up getting even more spam.

I am very sorry If I seemed heavily defensive at first, You seem genuine enough in your statemet and information, but my view was thrown when the link was viewed you sent me, not really vegan at first view.

So I am very sorry if I came across defensive, but it was nothing personal against you at all.

    Best wishes and good luck....

I will email you an interest but if I get any SPAM I will call
999 vegan all the best and no hard feelings I hope.

    snaffler.

    PS James.

It would have been good to say the VS has shown an interest in your first post, I am not telling you how to do your job, don't get me wrong but I did get loads PMs from people on this site asking me if it looked ok and I did not reply with anything negative or obstructive...very sorry I am not making you out a villian, no intention of that at all.

    Snaffler,

No probs mate and no offense taken.

I understand your comment about the website. It does now need updating, because at the time it was designed (by emonkeys, incidentally - another vegan company) it didn't know exactly what info would be in the system so we just kept it vague.

Anyway, all said and done, for anyone that is still interested please email or PM me.

And please believe me, if my intentions were sinister, I'd have given up long ago... seriously!!

    Cheers,
    James

Sorry to butt in here, but I can see how this happened, James.
If you are so secretive about things, then I, for one, am immediately suspicious.
Ok, I understand you are trying to keep things under wraps, but it sounds dodgey to others.
I would personally shy away from anything involving money, too, as there is a riot of free information on the web, and in libraries.
However, I wish you luck indeed if you are genuinely furthering Veganism - good on ya!

As I'm not getting many requests through, if anyone wants more info about the service please see w w w . shop - mate . net (removing the spaces!).

The system has been developed by vegans and is run by vegans - and we could really do with some fellow vegans to help test it. All we ask of you is that after one month you let us know what you think of the system. Once it's launched, each trialist will be able to use the service for free for one year.

If anyone has any questions or comments about the service, I'd be really grateful if you could contact me directly (email or PM) rather than posting to the board.

    Thanks,
    James

I checked out the url you gave, after deleting the spaces (incidentally why put the spaces in if they have to be deleted?), but got to a website shop-m8, that seems to be about using mobile phones, and doesn't mention vegan products. Guess I got to the wrong website!

    Eve,

No, you had the right site. The was no mention of 'vegan' on the site as I am hoping to launch the system with other special diets as well (e.g., nut-free, wheat-free, etc.) - so to keep it general, I just put 'special diets'.

But for the purpose of the trial (as I only have vegan product data at the moment) I have changed the web site so it says vegan.

I'd posted the url with spaces in because I don't want search engines like Google to pick it up, as I'm trying to keep things as quiet as possible until I launch (which is difficult when you're also trying to get trialists!).

    Cheers,
    James

Yes, I'm afraid the service only works in the UK at the moment. If it does well over here, we will hopefully do the service in the US as well - once we can find a good, reliable source for US food product data.

I'll let you know when that day comes - hopefully sometime later this year.

    Regards,
    James

Shop-mate is a service that allows you to access the isitvegan.info product data from your mobile phone.

Just to let everyone know that is now compatible with most mobile phones and we're looking for more trialists to try out the (free) beta release, so please have a look at the shop-mate website.

    Cheers,
    James

Whenever one is asked for an e-mail address and one is suspicious, one can simply create one on one of the many free services to use for that purpose. It can then be left to wither away if it gets spammed.

Incidently, am I the only member who does not have a mobile 'phone? They are truly tools of the Devil and I wouldn't have one. The fact that no one ever 'phones me has not coloured my thinking nor has it made me bitter.
