Qdoba (I've heard their tortillas contain mono- and diglycerides... but I'm guessing you could order your burrito "naked" and it would be okay)
No mono and diglycerides (which are not necessarily non-vegan BTW) in the soft flour totilla:

I hate how American baked goods use this stuff so commonly. I am surprised there isn't more talk about it on our forum.

We're touring america for our honeymoon and ending up in hawaii.
i read the bit of NY, very useful cheers. We're also making stops at Boston, Washington, Memphis and Las Vegas. Does anyone know any vegan friendly eateries in those places?

    Cheers x

They should be. Especially since I eat there every Friday for lunch. At first, I was the only one there. After a couple of mentions in vegan message boards as well as great reviews there's now a line at lunchtime. And I make a special trip whenever I am going on a flight to get carry-out to eat on the plane. I sure get those carnivores drooling over my food!

My vegetarian co-worker tried it last week. His comment: "I am SO happy I don't live near this place... I'd be sitting here 24/7 stuffing my face!"

There's some Vegan*, vegan restaurant that's famous for their donuts. I saw a picture of them, they looked amazing, and read a rave review. Anyone know which restaurant it is? Maybe it is actually a bakery or pastry shop? I'm not sure.

*definition of "Vegan": Of or pertaining to (Las) Vegas.

    That would be RONALD'S DONUTS..

a little hole in the wall (pun intended, LOL) place run by Buddhists who make more VEGAN donuts than non. They're like that old Frito-Lay commercial "Betcha can't eat just one"

    Definately donut mecca for vegans!

From my recent travels to San Francisco:

Millennium, is without a doubt the most amazing vegan restaurant I've ever been to.

Cha-Ya (on Valencia in the Mission District) in SF was so-so. I wouldn't bother going there again.

Herbivore on Divisadero was so good too! I must've eaten there a half a dozen times over a two week period.

The Green Chile Kitchen on Fulton Street make the most amazing vegan burrito. Have it with a side of chips and guacamole

Papalote Grill on Fulton Street have some pretty good vegan choices too for burritos and tacos but The Green Chile kitchen is way better. However, Papalote do make a freakin delicious vegan mole!

Maggie Mudd Icecream in Bernal Heights makes delicious vegan icecream sundaes!

Ritual Roasters (I went to the one in the Mission) sell vegan donuts!

Daily Health on 9th Avenue, just south of Golden Gate Park make awesome sandwiches and wraps and raw treats that are great for taking out and picnicing in the park with

I totally agree. I must have gained 1,856,435,623,554,546 pounds the last time I was there. Just HAD to try every flavor, in every size, in every possible combination

Their vegan vanilla icecream has to be the yummiest vanilla icecream I've ever had in my life.

They had a special pumpkin pie flavour when I was there (as seasonal special). OMG it was goooood! Especially in a waffle bowl, topped with vegan whipped cream, chocolate syrup, crushed nuts and a cherry on top

Hello from PA ... I live in a tiny lil' semi-retired ski village up north from philly ... but I travel for these two.

    http://www.bluesagegrille.com/

    http://www.giannasgrille.com/

I always get a an extra falafel (or two) they are incredible with the jicamaslaw --mmmmmm (but the place is tiny and you should call for reservations just to be sure)

and giannas for vegan cheese steaks - AMAZING! OH and just in case anyone likes cake? Gianna's does mail delivery on all cakes - all vegan - and the list of flavahs is as long as my arm ... OMG so good!!!! We are ordering one for Tday and having a brutal time picking our flavah ....

    bon appetite

Wild By Nature on Long Island has a great selection of organic vegan food in its deli, the dumplings are especially noteworthy! Also have some wonderful soups worth trying.

Blossom in NYC is a great restaurants. Great food, with frequent menu changes. Here's their website: http://www.blossomnyc.com/home.html
I personally prefer the cafe's atmosphere on Columbus, but both are good.

Franchia, also in NYC is a recent discovery for me. It is INCREDIBLE Korean food! It's mostly known as a tea bar, with all kinds of tea concoctions, but their food is amazing. Vegan sushi, dumplings, rice/noodle veggie dishes with excellent flavors. Decently-priced despite its Park ave location! http://www.franchia.com/franchia/index.html

If you're in the Madison, WI area, Monty's Blue Plate Diner is pretty good. They have some vegan-friendly meals, tofu scrambles, veggie-burgers, "BLTs", all the usual casual diner food, but vegan! They don't have a website, but it's info is here: http://www.foodfightinc.com/montys.htm

If by the rare chance you're in Houghton, MI (U.P.), good luck finding vegan food, except for the fresh produce in the produce department! However, the Keweenaw Co-op might have something for you, and definitely the best chance of ready-made vegan food in the area! http://www.keweenaw.coop/

    Post Eating Out/Restaurants/Fast Food

I did a search for a thread on this topic and didn't come up with any. If this truly is the first thread, I would love for it to become a sticky.

I want this thread to be for sharing information about vegan options and experiences we have at different restaurants/fast food joints. That way it will become a resource.

Here is a site that breaks down some restaurants:
    http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.ne...stFoodRest.htm

Let's Add to it here. I will start in a reply below.

    Carrabba's Italian Grill

Rough guide from the corporate office of Carrabba's:

Bread is vegan, along with the dipping sauce (oil and herbs).

Salad dressings are not vegan, they have egg and cheese in them. Ask for red wine viniagrette and olive oil if you want a salad.

The fresh pasta contains eggs. (fettucine, tagliarini, and maybe others - ask the server because they should know)

They have dry pasta which is vegan. (penne, spaghetti, etc... - again ask the server because they should know)

The marinara sauce has anchovies in it, as does the pizza sauce which is just a reduction of the marinara sauce. Always ask for the pomodoro sauce which is definitely vegan.

The Tagliarini Picchi Pacchiu is not vegan because of the pasta itself. The other ingredients are vegan. You can order the Tagliarini Picchi Pacchiu with a dry pasta instead of the fresh tagliarini (one server said the Tagliarini had no egg, they may have lied due to lack of knowledge or they may have used a dry pasta for this in their branch- ask your server, if they act like they don't know, don't take a drawn out answer that includes "I think" say, "please go ask the chef for me").

You could also try altering the menu items to make them vegan, as long as you use a dry pasta (no chicken on that, please). Or, just ask for the ingredients you want (can I get penne pasta with tomotaos, olive oil, italian herbs, mushrooms, onions, and garlic please).

I'm back home in rural PA until moving back to Philly for the fall semester. There are a few really good places in Philly proper (Gianna's, Govinda's and New Harmony are my favorites) but the SuTao Cafe in Malvern is the most accessible vegan restaurant given my current location. It's about 40 minutes away, is totally vegan, offers a wide wide range of dinners and a really affordable buffet with general tso's, pepper"steak," salad, lemon cake and much more!

If you're in the area you should definitely check it out. You should also be my friend because God knows I've never met another vegan living within 20 miles of my hometown.

    But I digress; here's the link: http://www.sutaocafe.com-a.googlepages.com/home

A few more for the Arizona crowd! I live in the north, and we eat out a fair amount so I have tons of experience with all the non-veg local restaurants too.

    Greater Phoenix area:
    *Green Vegetarian Restaurant ( http://greenvegetarian.com/ ) ~ it's all vegan, two locations!~
    *Nami ( http://tsoynami.com/ ) ~ vegan ice creams and bakery ~
    Treehouse Vegan Bakery ( http://www.treehousevegan.com/ ) ~ they're making my wedding cake! ~
    Loving Hut ( http://lovinghut.us/phoenix/ )
    Pomegranate Cafe ( http://www.pomegranatecafe.com/ )

    Northern Arizona area:
    *Macy's Cafe ( http://macyscoffee.net/ ) ~ vegetarian, with loads of vegan options ~
Picazzo's Pizzeria ( http://picazzos.com/ ) ~ non-veg, but they offer Daiya cheese for pizzas, vegan pasta optionas, and have a vegan ice cream! ~
    Morning Glory Cafe ( http://www.happycow.net/reviews.php?id=19776 ) ~ short hours though ~
