    Default Pogo Squabbling

So, it all seems to be kicking off at Pogo.

I've not been myself (it's a little too far out of the way when I seldomly visit London these days), but I know plenty of people round here have.

There's a blog post with plenty of crazy comments describing one side of the argument here:

    http://pogocafe.wordpress.com/2010/0...as-we-know-it/

Does anyone know the whole story / the other side?

What are people's feelings on the controversy?

I can see why people would take exception to meat being stored on the premises whatever the circs but it seems a shame if the whole thing's gone into meltdown because of it, especially as I still haven't made it up there

Hmmm, I like vegans. But then, I also like freegans...

Which one is better? There's only one way to find out:

These vegans claiming that the rest of them aren't "vegan enough" seem to be over reacting idiots. If people insist upon eating meat, I'd rather they eat that stuff that was to be thrown away than go buy more of it.

Sounds like quite a private issue between the volunteers- maybe best not for a public forum to discuss, but for them to work things out amongst themselves...!

as far as i'm concerned, Pogo should be kept and entirely vegan space - from the food stored to the food served; the toiletries and cleaning products used to the furnishings.

Good grief. I agree, Bryzee. One of the best things about going to Pogo is that it's entirely vegan. That's not to say I'm necessarily on anyone's side... you just don't know how people have conducted themselves unless you're directly involved. I wonder how this will impact on the food/atmosphere/future success of Pogo.

Ditto. I would be extremely uncomfortable going to a "vegan" place that I knew was holding meat in the freezer. It sounds though, that the group that threw out the food may not have acted very thoughtfully though.

    Sigh.

Clearly not since they've posted it all over the internet themselves.

I thought it was just a statement on their website?

Indeed, but it is commonplace of people to post statements about a given subject and provide information in order to help them see their point of view, there is the statement on the wordpress site (run by the original co-op members) then there is the statement on the official site (written by the new group).

As a customer of Pogo and in light of their openness and clarity surely they all welcome people to know exactly what happened and why from both points of view and trust them to make their own rational decision upon it, it is smarter in the long run to admit what has happened in your history and move on than it is to brush it under the proverbial carpet and go on like it never happened.
