    Default B12 Question

    Hello all,

Forgive me, I'm a dummy when it comes to B12.

I've been vegan for nearly 8 months now, and I feel great!

I'm 21 years old, and I've always been a big cereal & milk eater. I eat cereal & milk at least 5 times a week. Prior to being a vegan, I used dairy milk. Once I became vegan, I started to use vanilla almond milk which contains 50% B12, equivalent to dairy milk, as dairy milk also contains 50% B12. So, I know I'm safe when it comes to cereal & milk.

I'm aware about consuming B12 when I drink almond milk, but that is the only time, since I'm not aware of what else contains B12.

What else other than my almond milk would contain B12?

I eat a lot of legumes, vegetables, fruits, lentils, beans, nuts. I rarely ever touch soy, tofu, tempeh.

Am I getting enough B12 already? Should I be eating soy, tofu, tempeh on a regular basis?

These foods don't contain B12. You can check the B12 content of foods on http://www.nutritiondata.com/ or use a program like http://www.spaz.ca/cronometer/

It is possible that food samples you buy contain a bit of B12, but you should't rely on that. Make sure you get at least 2.4 micrograms of B12 in a day.

    Thanks for your suggested links.

I used the cronometer, accoring to the site I'm getting over 100% B12. Like I said earlier, I go through a box of cereal every 2 days using the almond milk.

I make my own almond milk which is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying it in the grocery store, but it's not fortified with anything. Neither is the cereal we have. It says 0% or 25% with a 1/2 cup of milk So I take a B12 100mg supplement.
