They do, don't they. I wonder why that is?
They do, don't they. I wonder why that is?
That IS sweet of you.abrennan
I'm sad because i bought organic bread with milk in it today and didn"t realise until I got home. I didn' eat any, my husband will eat it as he isn't vegan yet.
I bought beautiful organic turkish bread at the same shop last week and it was so yummy I went to get more today, but they didn't have any turkish so i grabbed a corn bread and quickly scanned the ingredients for nasty additives.
How could I miss "MILK"? I'll be more careful next time. Doh!
It happens, I've done it before. I come home and look what I got for us to eat. We can't eat this it's got "x" in it. WHAT???? Oh No. and then I chuck it outJacqui
Zoglos used to be one of my favourite vegan food products. Although if one is lucky, one can still find a pack that is from a batch prior to their decision to include egg whites.
Exactly, what are they doing that for, sanitarium have also done it. Zoglo burgers oooooooohKurmudgeon
I spoke to Sanitarium, asking them about the sudden addition of egg. They claim that there was always egg in their products that are now labelled with "egg"; it's just that previously they weren't legally required to declare it.
All I know regarding Zoglos is that they added egg whites to please their customers. What, people were complaining that without egg whites their products sucked? I've still yet to contact them to confirm this.
Another company I spoke to, that makes mini-chol "imitation cheese", says that the type and amount of dairy in the product is low enough that they can say it is "dairy free".
I've been caught out by the mini-chol producers before. The people at my local health sold it to me as dairy-free. I wasn't impressed when I found out. Luckily I did an internet search before consuming it.
Smiths chips have new packaging and the ingredients list palmolein oil.
What is palmolein oil? Anyone know anything about it? Or where I might find out more? I did a search but only got suppliers of.
Sounds like a blend of palm and other oils like canola etc.Jacqui
took me a while but I found this:adam antichrist
Palmolein is the liquid fraction of palm oil.
Thanks for finding that for me.abrennan
I also checked out the thread "threat to orang-utans".
Good reason to stop eating chippies. I needed one.
Has anybody tried the Blueberry Bliss biscuits made by Freedom Foods? They make very good filling snacks. I have also just discovered that Lindt dark chocolate is vegan which makes me very happy. Both are available at Woolies.
Don't blame me for avian flu :(
I wish everyone would stop talking about chocolate. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I remember the taste so well . Unfortunatly, I can no longer have it due to migraine, I did indulge last week and paid for it dearly .
I have so far given up cigarettes (don't miss em at all, revolting things), alcohol (brings on migraine), fattening food (obvious reasons, plus high cholestorol) and chocolate. Geez life feels bland. At least there are other non food fun things I can indulge in .
My fav vegan food is Massell stock. With it I can liven up a soup or stew, make gravy for my nut roast, put in a stir fry etc. It is magic .
Has anyone tried Kingland cheddar? I would like to know if it's any good befor I nag the local healthfood shop into ordering it in for me.
I got some a few weeks ago and tried it just now on a pizza. It was quite good but I don't have much to compare to. It didn't melt and it's sort of mushy, but it tastes fairly nice. I love Kingland The other soy cheese I tried tasted like a dog had spewed it up. I say it's worth a try *thumbs up*treehugga
I found these amazing 'sausage rolls', they're Blue Lotus. You can choose between soy or tempeh and mmm they're just delicious. Kind of fattening though.
I found them when I went to Melbourne for a few days but I'm having great trouble ordering them here in Adelaide. hmph
Oh thankyou! That cracked me up, I even got a mental picture of the dog.blue-and-yellow
Now that I get a mental picture too...the dog thing is kind of grossJacqui

Anyone tried the So Good strawberry ice cream???? DROOOL!!!! I ate 1/2 a tub on Sunday coz it was so delishus
Only half a tub? Bah! Ye be but a mere novice!stickydate
I haven't tried the strawberry only the boysenberry which is soooo moreish, i'll have to look for the strawberry, i heard that their was a mango one but am yet to see that anywhere?
Apparently there is a new dairy free frozen dessert icecream called 'Purely Decadent' by Turtle Mountain. I haven't tried it yet but for stockists you can call ph 03 9899 3633. It is made from organic ingredients. I steer clear of 'So Good' as it's made by those greedy Seventh Day supporters of McDonalds.
Yes - that is the soy delicious one - they make great flavours like the cookie avalanche I was talking about before. They have other great flavours like chocolate brownie almond, mocha almond fudge, cherry nirvana and peanut butter zig zag to name a few.
ummm. I'll have to give them a call and find out where I can get me some.
If you can get to Richmond, Macro Wholefoods has a large selection.
It's getting them back to Bendigo without them defrosting that will be the problem!
Trust me, you wont make it a block with them....
I'll bring a spoon and let hubby drive for once
Please pardon my ignorance, Treehugga, but do the vegetarian Seventh Day-ers really support McDonalds???treehugga
Your not ignorant lovey. It's just that I'm a full on mega corporate dispiser (actually I'm a social worker who is right into human and animal rights) so I make it my business to be informed re corporate horrors and then I send letter and write articles re their blunders. You will no doubt be writing to me in prison one day . Anyway I digress. MacDonalds have purchased their veggie burger patties from Sanitarium (run by the Seventh Day Adventists) as a money making scheme. I'm not against Seventh Day Adventists per say, just that assisting MacDeath really riled me especially from a so-called health food company.Nest
I've been boycotting sugar but cracked under work pressure this week.
I found some blueberry cheescake tofutti. It was unusual and too sweet but did taste like cheesecake. I also bought some of those leda tim-tam-like biscuits. They have changed the recipe/presentation for the better.
Back to anti-sugar now.
I go to a 7thDA shop (interestingly, the don't stock Sanitarium). They have really helped me out with health issues. However, they really like honey.
Thanks Treehugga ... and if you do land in prison, leave a message here and I'll bake you a delicious vegan cake with a file in it!treehugga
That would be great. It would almost be worth the scandal for the publicity against Macs
Hhhmmmmm ... vegan-prison-break ...treehugga
I just received some Cheezly mozzarella cheese from cruelty free and it is divine. I had it on my pizza last night yummmmm. It was quite expensive to order though as you have to get it delivered in a large foam cool box. Next time I will order more as 1 pack isn't going to go very far. It's all natural with no nasty additives etc. Try it. I highly recommend it.
Are the rumours true? Is Cheezly available in Australia now? I haven't seen it anywhere around in Adelaide...treehugga
Yes. My goodness Imapeach, you really must subscibe to 'Vegan Voice' they have all the latest news. You can order it through 'cruelty free' and you can also subscribe, for free, to their newsletter which they email to you with all the latest products as well as articles etc. You won't find it in any shops yet as it is only imported through vegan perfection to the best of my knowledge and they supply it to 'cruelty free'.Imapeach
Gah! Fine... I'm a bad vegan
I never subscribed to VV because I would always just read the copy at my local veg cafe. But just haven't been there much lately.
btw, I like ur yahoo avatar! Mine is so much hotter than I am in reality
Well if my local cafe had a copy, I would rely on that as wellImapeach
Yes my avatar is actually based on me although the real thing is of course, much sexier looking
I shop at the cruelty free shop too. Thanks for the heads up about the cheese. What are the ingredients? Is it yeast or soy based? Yeasty stuff often disagrees with me but I want a pizza with cheese.
It's mainly soy but it does contain yeast extract. I don't think it has much it doesn't taste yeasty at all.insubordination
Here are the ingredients:
water, non hydrogenated vegetable fats and oils, soy protein, starch, thickeners, carrageenan, locust bean gum, salt, yeast extract, emulsafying salts, calcium phosophate, potassium phosphate, raw cane sugar, flavour, herbs, spices, colour, annatto, beta carotene.
Now if only they'de make a good vegan camembert and brie
Thanks to all that posted on this thread, I've got some shopping to do!
