thanks, and yes, Plantar Fasciitis is nasty. I've been to specialists, I have exercises which help a lot, and I use a foot massager. I also have to buy (expensive!) 'suitable' shoes/trainers. I've has physio and also injections into my heels. I've had 2 really bad flare-ups so I try hard to avoid them now. The tendon thing is annoying, too, it makes my ankle swell up on the other foot!. I'm sure it would help if I lost weight though.

And, yay! we do now have a permanent roof over our heads, it's very small but homely, has a lovely little garden full of primroses, daffodils, camelias and trees, and surrounded by open fields. So life isn't all bad.

Good luck with your journey towards a size 12, I think maybe I would settle for a 14 but will be in awe of you when you reach your goal!.

@Gattona - thank you for posting your story. You appear to be a very strong person I won't try to write any 'wise words' because you'll already know them and I don't want to sound trite. Congratulations on your journey with SW so far Hurrah for our wee support group on here!

I have done really well so far with SW. It has truly changed my life. Along with a couple of other things, I have Type 1 diabetes, and the SW plan suits me to a T. It's really difficult to explain to people who don't have diabetes, or have only had it a short time, but it used to be a really restricting type diet I would have to follow. That all changed when I did something called DAFNE a few years ago. My life was free again, in terms of I could eat whatever the heck I liked, whenever I liked! However, to my cost, this freedom came with other issues. I now understand that I function better with some sort of framework, and SW has given me that healthy, structured frame.

Hmmmm, my story come across as a bit of a mess I hope it makes sense!

I have lost a total of 10.6kg so far, and that's since 28th Dec? So far, so good (and my typo there was 'food'!). However, I do also have an active job, and I don't have a car so I walk to and from work everyday. As well as doing, according to my pedometer, about 12,000 steps during the day!

@cobweb - oh my. I just had a scoot on wiki about plantar fasciitis. You poor thing. Not anything like you've got, but I've got 6 screws in my right foot due to a Lisfranc fracture a couple of years back which occasionally gives me gyp so I can (negligibly!) understand. Well done on the 4lb loss! You sound positive about your new place, which can only mean good things!

Right, I'll stop waffling now! I've just enjoyed a nakd Cocoa Mint bar, which is only 7 Syns!

Hi Pusskins (and thanks for your reply on my kitten thread) I have just googled DAFNE. Gosh, it sounds like lots of effort but useful. I had gestational diabetes with my last child but was diet controlled but I do know about blood tests after meals and eating a very limited diet. I'm happy for you that SW suites your diabetes too, I've heard loads of good things about being vegan being very good for diabetes too but it looks like its not been a miracle for you.

You've lost lots then since December. Good for you. And now you are so near your goal, that is really good news. Don't disapear on us when you get there will you?

I've noticed this many a time before, you get a bunch of overweight people together and they've all got stories that are hard listening to - I suspect something we've got in common that we've used food unwisely in the past to get through difficult times. Its never pure greed as the fortunately slim so often assume.

Hugs to all of here, posters and readers xxx

Pusskins your foot screws sound alarming enough! . Thanks for the sympathy though , it does get me down because I love walking.

Yes, I often feel that being overweight is rarely down to 'just' greed. My mother says that "overweight people are stupid" but of course it's not true (in most cases anyway! ). We all deal with things differently, don't we, some smoke, some drink, some beat their partners, some take drugs...........I think over-eating does the least harm to others, but, sadly, it does a lot of mental and physical harm to the over-eater .

    Ooooh,

I found a new goody in Sainsburies today. Probably 4 - 5 syns a pack. Its a pack of be good to yourself crispy type things, Paprika flavour soya and potato snacks. very nice with a melt in the mouth texture.

93 kcal and 4.7g of protein per pack and they even say they are vegan on the pack

I did it once and put on weight!. Loads of stuff was 'free' foods, like potatoes (cooked without fat), and veg, I ate more than usual and actually gained.
I've often wondered how they can call veg FREE food.... an average jacket potato (which i LOVE) can contain around 200 calories!!! that's a big percentage of your daily calorie allowance surely..... but they're like saying you can eat 10 jackets a day and not gain a lb????

I don't know, Daffodil, but somehow, for me anyway, it works! And there is only so much you can put away, even if you have a history of eating anything that's nailed down Noodles and pasta are the way to go. I have to eat the free-from pasta (gluten-, wheat- and everything else-free) . Don't know if that makes a difference.

My 3 month online membership has run out, on the day I needed to enter my weight! Boo! Can't afford to renew at the moment, but will do so when we're back on track financially. Should be in a couple of months, as my other half starts the new job on Monday.

SO I'm kinda winging it for the forseeable future. But I have learned so much in these 3 months, I can't fail! Hopefully... We'll see how it goes. I've got my support group on here!

    I've lost 0.4kg (0.9lb) this week. A smidge, but I'm pleased.

Pusskins, of course you can't fail Even if your loss this week is less than other weeks its still going in the right direction. Sorry your in financial difficulties atm, hope your OH's job is OK.

Daffodil, it works for me and in Pusskins wonderful phrase I have a history of eating everything that's not nailed down. Heck, I'd have ripped it up and had the nails as well when REALLY stressed. But with SW you do have to eat other things and I think they recomend a proportion of 'SuperSpreed foods in each meal. If you are eating too much and out of control then the SW, like all other plans, won't work. But if you can follow it, it does work. Amazing. I don't get how baked beans with the sugar in them can be SS but there you go, they are and it works.

SO... how is everybody getting on?

Apparently, pasta bake has now become my signature dish, and there is always something I do that's slightly different every time. Depending on what veg we have, really! I've found that butternut squash is LUSH in the pasta bake. And I make a massive dish of it (moved up from my diddy Pyrex rectangular roaster to the biggest Pyrex rectangular roaster I could find which only cost £3 from QD!), so it lasts us a good few days - lunches and/or dinners.

Congrats to everyone doing so well on the plan!

I joined online today - so any help/advice/vegan recipes would be greatly received!

I've followed the plan before but it's changed quite a bit since last time and I was also veggie when I did the plan previously, which I found easier because of being able to eat lots of quorn.

    Veggie soup for dinner tonight!

I'm going to try to be as good as possible & avoid starchy carbs after 5pm - hence vegetable soup!

I'm not having any syns all week either (saving them up as I always have a few drinks at the weekend!)

    Welcome KayJay.

I love doing a sort of curry inspired from a minimins poster.

1 tin of mushy peas, a couple of onions chopped up, chopped up potatoes and a stock cube and curry powder to taste.

Put everything together in a casserole dish with some water and leave in teh oven for a couple of hours checking for going too dry or over cooking. Mushy peas are SS, the rest are also all free foods.

Pusskins, how do you do your pasta bakes?

Fry's sausages - the ones with the circle proclaiming themselves to be lower fat are free, are are the Real Eat chicken style lumps (NOT the Fry's)

I might have lost another couple of pounds and put it back on or the scales blipped. I'm now doing my best to weigh in only once a week to avoid the excitement and disapointments.

    Thank you Gattona

Fry's sausages AND Realeat "Chicken" pieces all free? Woohoo! And the curry sounds great, especially as I have a slow cooker so I can chuck it all in there!

I had veg soup last night which looked disgusting but tasted ok. Will take me a while to get back into it but am feeling positive with it Great to have support on here, so thanks guys

Not ALL Fry's sausages, only the original and (I expect but haven't done a comparison of the nutritional data on the packs) and the braewust(?? the trad SA ones) with the lower fat label on them. Enjoy.

I'm about to do a stir fry with a pack of tesco ready veg in a stock cube with grated ginger and garlic combined with scrambled tofu - minus the marge and nutritional yeast and am confident it will be both nice and completely free (food wise)

Yummy! Been to H&B to get some of the Fry's sausages so will try them later with beans, grilled tomatoes & mushrooms

Any other yummy vegan stuff that's syn free? Are any of the "pasta & sauces" vegan & syn free?

Pasta and sauces thingies.. yes .. but I wouldn't call them yummy. I THINK they are made by batchelors and I got a couple when Sainsburies had them on a BOGOF, I think it was called tomato and herb and its free and vegan. Your grill sounds nice, my stir fry was nice but then I got EALLY hungry and hadn't got anything prepared and had my HEB all bran. I'm being very careful atm as I seem to have put on three pounds and I can only put it down to being slack and not weighing and measuring. Shopping here I go tomorrow to get one of thos scales that weigh small quantities accurately

Right, the BASIC pasta bake which is on the Slimming World meal suggestions is pretty much as follows:
Fry up in frylight onion, pepper and courgette, add a jar of passata, stir in a load of cooked pasta and pour in to dish. Bake on gas mark 5 for 20-25 mins.

BUT I now lob in broccoli, mushrooms, squash... Whatever I've got kicking around in the fridge or what I fancy. Sweetcorn. Then I also whack in a packet of vegan mince (I get the Morrisons own brand) along with some veg stock (eg 400g mince + 400ml veg stock) and some balsamic vinegar or tamari, and a tin or two of tomatoes, or the jar of passata. Season. I use dried sage as well. Stir in the boiled pasta, slam it in the oven... I then see if the top is nice and crispy and then I get it out. It's LUSH!!!

Also, sorry to hear about the 3lb 'blip' Gattona. Remember, these are not permanent! Are you drinking enough water? Having enough fibre? Making sure you have your Syns? I recommend Salter scales. About £20? They are very good for weighing. My first electric scales were about a tenner from Tesco, and they were good too.

Brilliant MsP - 3 and half, I'll catch you up, just wait and see I have cardio stuff down as a 'should' which is unhealthy for me , its an i could if I chose to prioritise it - which I don't. I do think I've just got lazy and careless about the measuring side of things. A big bowl of all bran - sure, that must be 42g thinks I, probably erroniously.... etc

Pusskins, thanks for the concern and the recipe - I've often vaguely wondered how to do pasta bakes. It looks good.

    good news for me

    Brilliant, well done!

Wewent to Nandos this weekend. Yuck to going up and ordering and watching them grilling chicken and stuff .... eugh .... but they do a very good vegan veggie burger but you have to get them to leave off the mayo.

I checked what was vegan and the waitress was really good, getting the special diet sheets and looking at was OK and not. But the order got really mixed up and I had mayo on mine. With the compensatory extras they gave by recompense I actually ended up with two, I'm not sure how, it got very complicated and our whole table's orders were a bit chaotic. Anyway, I had two big burgers and finished off with chocolates both Saturday and Sunday. I don't regret it at all as I don't want to be a slave to a diet mentality but will compensate with lots of speed soup this week and not WI till Friday or maybe even Saturday as I really want to get under 200lbs and don't want to see bigger figures this week.

Hope all is going well for the rest of the vegan SW people.

That fabulous news, KayJay! Good for you

I wouldn't worry, Gattona, and, from the sounds of it, you're not worrying about it! That's good. Like you say, you don't want to become a diet slave. What I have read plenty on the SW website is that you shouldn't try too hard to 'compensate' after 'overdoing' it. Just think, OK, that's happened. Now to get back to normal! Also, weightloss is about mentality and having the foresight to see this as a lifestyle, not as a diet. Life isn't about haven't a bad meal one day and cutting back the rest of the time. Because you are doing so well the rest of the time, the body is OK with a meal out. It might even make your body work hard briefly and you might find you lose a bit more weight this week. I don't know. I'm not trained or anything. It's just my thoughts!

So, I'm basically saying, I'm glad you enjoyed the food. Don't punish yourself for enjoying it!

No need to worry Gattona - and btw I've had similar problems at Nando's they're a nightmare! I'll soon be stuffing my face as Easter, my birthday and holiday are all within the next couple of weeks - but I'm going to enjoy all of them and get back on track asap.

Keep up the good work folks!

Pusskins, your comments where just what I needed! I wasn't intending to punish myself - I called it compensation but I could not knuckle down to an extreme week of soups and instead had, 'oh lets not go into detail. I'll just say it was a day of inapropriate choices.

So, I've taken to heart what you said - I used to exist in a bing/fast situation and I don't want to go back there. Thanks for reminding me. Right now I'm boosting my motivation with this - warning, it does include a very shocking autopsy. An obese woman who donated her body so others can learn from her mistakes. When she is opened up all the fat under her skin looks like cutting open a swede and all her organs are pushed out of place and compressed by the fat. Its revolting and fascinating but I had to have a break from it, a very interesting programme.

Glad I was of help, Gattona. I'll have a look at that vid when I get home from work. I hope you are enjoying a week of nourishing and flavourful meals!

I can't wait to weigh in on Thursday. I looked out my Jillian Michaels (*swoon* ) 30 Day Shred dvd and have been doing it the last few days. I figured if I do the Level 1 for 30 days, then the Level 2 for 30 days, and then the Level 3 for 30 days, I will see where I'm at and pick and choose workouts accordingly.

WELL, I've lost 0.6kg (1.3lbs) this week. Not bad! However, apparently I am far too loud when I do my workout in the morning. I was told that all you could hear throughout the house is "dooom dooom dooom" as I thump about! And I was most likely disturbing the neighbours! So I have agreed to not wear my trainers when I do my Shred in the mornings.

i lost my 1lb..plus 3 more and got my 3 1/2 stone sticker etc.. another 4lbs and i get my 4 stone. thats crazy though, right?!

ive been doing a davina macall sculpty dvd, its a killer.

came in here to post a lasagne recipe. totally free as far as i can see??

sauce - a pack of mori-nu silken tofu, cup of nooch smattering of marigold stock powder and a bag of wilted spinach. blend it up, taste for extra seasoning etc. thats you sauce. (i dont even count engevita as registering any calorific or syn value, youd have to put away loads for anything to happen surely?)

make up a ratatouile type veg sauce, put whatever you want in it as im sure everyone here already makes. tins of tomatoes, peppers, onions garlic, herbs paprika, fry light your pan and off you go.

packet of lasagne sheets, layer it up.

i thinly slice up an aubergine and simmer it for 5 mins in some stock then layer that in too.

into the oven cook til its done

You are FIERCE, emmap! Well done! Thank you for the recipe Quick q - I've always par-boiled my lasagne sheets beforehand. Do you do that?

I've got some old Davina dvds which are fabulous, but the Shred suits me at the moment as it is 20 mins, so about 16 mins intense exercise, which I will be able to maintain long-term at the mo. Davina is lovely, isn't she?

Holy flurkin shnit! I'm hardcore right!!

I've totally had cake today. First cake since October. Hlaf a slice lemon drizzle, half a slice chocolate, from Out Of This World. I'm totally trying this new thing as well, where I use punctuation and capital letters. If you see me screw up yell at me please!

Regarding the lasagne, no I don't par boil them. I put them in just layered out of the box and cook it on about Gas number 5 fro about 45 minutes. Maybe pop some cheezly on top if you're feeling the 28gramme urge, and it may be wise to *sprinkle* in some stock or at the very least some of the water you simmered the aubergines in, as the spinachy sauce isn't so much like sauce when it's cooked, it absorbs into the pasta (which it probably wouldn't do as much if you DID parboil them, right?
    It's pretty good though. Yum.

The Davina thing, she's very personable, so as she's doing her stretchy lunges, she's sort of making me feel quite at home, which I am, because I am at home. I also, against my better judgement because I cannot ABIDE Mamma Mia! borrowed a Mamma Mia! (exclamation mark compulsory??) workout cum dance dvd. It is horrific. And sucks. Arse. Ha ha.

How's everybody doing? Thanks to the beautiful weather, I have been out walking a lot. I have also noticed how much better I am with "syn" items. I have been doing quite a bit of baking, but I don't then eat everything as soon as it's made. I'm quite happy to have a piece and then leave the rest in the tub in the larder, and it actually lasts more than a night in the house! That's also with a partner who is ravenous most of the time. I throw bits of fruit in their direction occasionally. Must remember to NOT put a spoon in the kiwi fruit

Now down to 161 lbs from around 172 lbs at the New Year. Will lose another 5 lbs and see how it affects my running. Exercising every day either in the fresh air, or on the treadmill (to help protect the old knees.)

Omg people. Cake from OOTW should come with a health warning. I PUT ON 2 1/2 lbs this week.

Other things I have eaten this week aside from one slice of lemon drizzle cake and half a slice chocolate cake. A packet of (obvious to me now) evil granose burger mix and 1/4 cup of wholewheat flour. (Which went into a sauce, whcih I promptly ate all of over veg)

2 1/2 lbs. It had SO better be **star week**

    **low growling**

Woooo hoooo to all these slenderer people. Well done everyone. Re lasagna, if you read the packets some need pre-cooking, some don't. I find the pre cooking ones a PAIN, trying to get the sheets all slidey and slippery out of one pan and positioned in the next. Pah. Well done Conweb on the restrainig from eating all the yummies at once. While you avoid throwing spoons at your SO, are they supportive of your efforts?

My progress stopped all this month so I've rejoined a local SW group. Last night's delight was a quiz on the names of various mainstream dairy choccie bars and their syn values. I was horrified to discover how many I knew but I had no idea of the syn values.

We've got a barbeque for mayday/beltane, anyone got any good SW friendly marinades? Or ideas generally? I was thinking of putting a couple of teaspoons of olive oil as a HEXB, some random herbs and grated garlic in a plastic bag and then popping in lumps of courgette and tomato, maybe some real eat chicken style lumps, onion and slooshing them about in it and them grilling on PRE SOAKED (I know that bit ) kebab sticks. If you do harder veggies like potato and carrots, do you have to cook them a bit first so they cook faster? We used to do the maypole thing and more but the family seems to have moved on from that. It was fun, my children discovered that if you ran round rather than dancing at the same speed as everyone else their ribbons got shorter quicker and they ended up getting tied to the pole. But these days a barbecue seems to suffice.

Out Of This World = name of a shop in Leeds selling ethical/organic/veggie/vegan food, toiletries etc. The name also indicates the prices; think Holland & Barrett + 10%.

    Happy Birthday to Pusskins!

I lost one lb this week which isn't bad considering it's also the week of the devil's curse

However, next week will be very very bad. Birthday on Friday, Easter weekend, then on hols for a week. I'll probably put on every single 4lb that I've lost over the last 2-weeks

Gattona - veggie kebab skewers done on the BBQ are lovely - I used pieces of red onion, red & orange peppers, button mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and cubes of pressed tofu marinated in tamari - then had them served with some Fry's sausages and new potatoes - a syn free vegan BBQ

She's scared that you might come up to OOTW from Cornwall and nick all "our" food.

Hi guys, saw this thread today and was so pleased as I had joined Slimming World on Tuesday and was well pleased with the vegan options.

I can't believe how much food you can eat, I felt physically sick at the end of the first day. I've had to use a smaller plate!!! I put everything on the plate before I cook it so I can get the portion sizes right. Years of faddy dieting mean I have no idea of portion control.

To be honest I couldn't eat a massive amount of potato or pasta, three new potatoes is my maximum. My downfall was snacking on crisps, sweets and bread all day, i am too full to eat them on SW!!!
