I have ended up buying more of the Tuna - it has a good use by date (October I think), so I'm keeping it as a treat. I found it really nice with Asda reduced fat salad cream or with tofu scramble & salad cream. Will probably buy the Raspberry dessert again though

I've tried the soya-free cheezly, it's quite nice melted on pizza. I have most of the block grated up and in the freezer waiting for pizza. I haven't seen any of the patés or any of the other new stuff in shops here yet

^^The tuna one is OK - it grows on you (I'm having it in cold "Tuna" pasta salad for Dinner in work tonight), I wouldn't bother with the mushroom one though, I found it tasteless - Granovita's tinned mushroom pate is much nicer

Actually I quite like the Redwood mushroom paté - better than the tuna one which I decided in the end was a bit creepy. I haven't tried the Granovita mushroom paté within living memory though - perhaps I should.

Maybe I have just been spoilt by the Granovita one, its very nice - especially the Shitake one.

Thanks - must have a forage, Firestorm. I'm sure they must have reformulated the Granovita ones since I last had them.

I'll have to try it. I used to like the Realeat "fishcakes" but they seem to have stopped producing them some time ago. I'm not impressed with with the Redwood "fishfingers" or "scampi".

    lv
The fish fingers were good at one time, I used to like eating them fresh from the grill.
But the flavour is non existent now, and the so called thai style fishcakes n scampi, are some of the worst stuff ive ever tasted in my entire life.

Yeah Very expensive, think I will stick with the raw chocolate pies from living foods for now.

Finally got around to trying the pates. The mushroom one was ok but a bit bland, the tuna one was really nice despite tasting nothing like tuna!

It actually tastes rather authentic, I had to double check the pack to make sure it was vegan. It kinda reminded me of their ham slices, but its quite close to salmon.

Yes, it looks rather like the "ham" in the picture, and iirc the texture of ham wasn't that similar to salmon. Will give it a whirl on your recommendation though, when it reaches these parts.

Look interesting, I'll have to look out for them! I never had salmon in my pre-veg days so I'd have no idea if it tastes 'authentic', but I'll try anything vegan once!

I just read back through the thread for the craic and I realised that I've tried the tuna pâté and yoghurts. The pâté was nice but nothing like tuna and the yoghurts are a bit processed-tasting, I remember thinking that the flavour was a bit flat. I still haven't seen any of the flapjacks or chocolate-coated nuts/raisons.

Has anyone bought a pack of something from Redwood, put it in the fridge then found a few days later that it has blown up (not exploded but filled with air)?
I have some of the fish free steaks, and I'm just wondering if they are still safe to eat?

I think the packs inflating is a sign that they have got warm and bacteria have started "breeding", so it would probably be safer to swap the pack. I guess if it's only a bit of air and you're going to cook the contents the risk is less, but...

Yeah, if a pack has 'blown', don't eat it. Best to return it or, like you have done Firestorm, email the company and then dispose of said item. I process credits for that sort of thing occasionally.

    Thanks for the advice everyone!
I got a lovely email back from Redwoods (finally a company with decent customer services):
" Thank you for your email regarding our fishless steaks, my apologies for the problem you have found with this product. Blowing of the product packaging is usually caused by the product being allowed to become to warm at some point in its life, this can cause yeast growth in the product which causes the packaging to expand. I would not recommend that you consume this product if the packaging has expanded.
If you could send me the full best before date and lot code which can be found just below the best before date and if possible a picture of the problem packaging this would be a great help. And if you could also send me your contact details I will arrange for a replacement to be sent to you.
If I can be of any further help please let me know and I will help in any way that I can."

I received a parcel from Redwoods today. 2 Packs of Fishless steaks, 1 pack chicken style slices and 1 pack beef style slices. All in compensation for 1 pack of Fishless steaks that has blown, it came with a letter apologising for my inconvenience (and hoping that my experience wouldn't stop me using the company again)!

I have sent them an email complementing them on their outstanding customer services.
