    Default What's your accent?

This quiz is cute, I lived my entire life in New Jersey except for a couple of years living in London, England but I barely squeeked in as a Yankee (43%).

I don't no need a quiz to tell me I am a Somerset Bumpkin......no description or test needed just listen to a wurzles album.

Since I don't know what a wurzles is, I'll take your word for it . I know I'm a native New Jerseyan because I can tell you where Bruce Springsteen grew up (Freehold, NJ) and what bridge is shown during the opening bit of The Sopranos, which I've only seen twice (Pulaski Skyway).

You're a southerner?? And here I was under the impression that Yorkshire was in the north of England . What would really be funny is for a non-native American/English speaker to take the quiz. One of my closest friends is Italian and a fluent English speaker (works for British Airways) but she still can't detect the difference between my accent and someone from Texas. That always amazed me. Though she can detect difference in English accents but I guess because she spent so much more time there.

My mum thought that Callie Duquenes (CSI:Miami) was from South Africa - not the kind of 'southern belle' accent the producers/actors were aiming for I don't think

Never heard of that show, don't have television. We have a DVD/VCR to watch videos, that's all. I love some of those movies/shows where they have an actress or actor doing a horrible accent but doing so seriously. Like Dick van Dyke doing his cockney in Mary Poppins.

I guess we can interpret this as the score for an Aussie accent.

AND THEY ARE NOT CRAYFISH OR CRAWDADS! Sorry, I had to post my frustration for these words. My mother's from Indiana and always says these words. They're just wrong. They are.

When I used to see the little buggers in the river where I grew up (before I knew that river was a chemical waste dump ), we called them crayfish so crayfish they will remain .

76% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!

I'd guess it would be pretty strongly Southern since I come from the southern hemisphere.

Some of them I did not answer - for me long sandwiches are "baugettes" and the tiny lobsters are called "yabbies".

I remember trying to bring a crayfish home from day camp and having it die on the bus ride home. I felt a pang of guilt while reading that question.

I was 52% Dixie, but most of my answers said, "Western Great Lakes" or "Midwest/Chicago".

Not sure why, I grew up near chicago and whenever I went on vacation people said, "You're from Chicago arn't you?"

It's not like i talk like those Saturday Night Live skits - "Da Bears"

I probably lost points because I put "You all" instead of "Youse" I think that is a chicago thing, but i don't say it.

I dislike americans, at least the ones who voted for Bush. You can't possibly think it's any better here than in the UK? You might have to wait 2 years to get an operation but at least you can get one, not like here where the hospital will literally throw you out.

Wow, I’m disliked because I voted for Bush.
I can’t say there is anyone I hate even the few I have encountered in real life that have automatically hated me based on whatever group I have happened to fall under.
I’m still surprised that I am “Dixie”.

Reminds me of Renton's speech in Trainspotting when they were out hiking. He was complaining how it's shite to be Scottish..the English are wankers but the Scots were so low that they were colonized by wankers. A classic scene in one of my favorite movies.

I was talking to a British fellow at a bar who had a similar attitude. He told me that he liked it better here than in England. However, he couldn't explain what he liked about New Jersey. I suggested the proximity to New York City but he said that he had only been there once and wasn't that impressed. I really wanted to know because I can't explain just what it is I like about New Jersey either.

    Maybe it's the weirdness.

45% Yankee, or barely Yankee. Does that mean I'm 55% Dixie? I'm actually a 3rd generation San Franciscan, so I want another category!

When we were kids we used to catch crawdads in Pine Lake, at Sigmund Stern Grove, near my grandparents house in the Sunset District. We would make bread balls, tie them to strings, and the crawdads would clamp down on them with their claws. We would put them in a bucket of water to look at for a while, and then put them back. I will never forget the following argument between two bystanders:

"Ah, I see you are catching crayfish." said the first man in very smooth, cultured tones, bending over the bucket.

"Naw, those'r crawdads!" exclaims the second man.

    "Well, I call them crayfish."

    "WELL, AH CALL 'EM CRAWDADS!"
