    Default Eggless Fried "Egg"

    I kind of threw this together, so the measurements are total guesses. I'm sure you can feel it out as you go. It turned out really tasty and egg-like! If anyone decides to try this feel free to help me out on correcting the measurements.

    Eggless Fried "Egg"

    1 block firm tofu, rinsed and gently squeezed between paper towels
    black salt for sulfur taste, but use regular salt if you must
    1 Tbs vegan margarine
    1/2 c nutritional yeast
    1/2 tsp turmeric for color
    1/2 c warm vegetable broth
    1 Tbs liquid Aminos
    3 Tbs arrowroot
    splash white cooking wine

    Preheat oven to broil. Cut the tofu horizontally into as thin of slices as you can without them falling apart. Spray a non-stick baking sheet with oil. Lay the slices side by side on the baking sheet. Spray the slices with oil and liberally season with black salt and pepper. Broil until edges start to crisp ~10-15 minutes. Flip each slice and broil for another 5-10 minutes.

    Meanwhile, melt margarine in a saucepan over med-low heat. In a bowl, whisk the arrowroot into warm broth. Stir nutritional yeast and turmeric into the melted margarine. Add a splash of cooking wine. Stir. Pour the broth into the pan, raise heat to simmer and whisk constantly. Add arrowroot until you achieve desired consistency. Stir in the Aminos and remove from heat.

    Once tofu is finished serve on toast with a spoonful of "yolk".

    I'm gonna give this a go too. IMO a fried egg substitute is like the holy grail of veganism.

    Ok firestorm, thats just taken things to a whole new level. First we had mock meats, now mock eggs.....what next?.....mock foie gras lol!

    There is actually several versions of vegan Foie Gras - they are called Faux Gras. This is one, and the other is a recipe that can be easily Veganised.

    There are also 2 recipes for hard boiled eggs here & here, I tried making one once with silken tofu, but instead of using yellow food colouring I accidentally used strawberry flavouring - it didn't taste great.

    That fried egg looks awesome! Way too complicated for me, but I'd love for someone else to make it for me!

    I know that this is an old thread but I noticed that that the ingredients for the recipe in that link are pretty much the same as the Vegg (the commercially-produced vegan egg yolk powder).

    I think (not 100% sure) the person who invented the recipe also created the Vegg.

    Would make sense . I know there is probably another thread around for this but have you tried the Vegg? I can get it in the vegan shop here but it is nearly €10 for the sachet, is it worth it?

    All those vegan egg recipes looks awesome!

    Fresh raw coconut meat has a very egg-whitey consistency (like eggs whites that haven't been cooked enough). Maybe those could be used to make sunny side up, soft boiled, or poached.

    I've tried it in quiches & omelette but it didn't make a huge difference, but on its own (I.E. Vegg & Soldiers) or in scrambled tofu and it really improved it. I've but it about 4 times and will be buying it in future, they have also started developing a version for baking!

    I never had 'egg & soldiers' pre-vegan, we always had hard-boiled eggs, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing
