Thread: Worker dies at slaughter house

Default Worker dies at slaughter house

Not many details yet but a worker at the F Drury & Sons abattoir has been killed in an accident. Lets hope he went the same way as some of the animals they murder there every day. It's the same slaughter house that animal aid investigated last year - link here

Let's hope he suffered as little as possible.
I will not eat anything that walks, swims, flies, runs, skips, hops or crawls.

They might be wrong, but not all of them understand why.

Totally agree. Lets leave the promotion of suffering, or indifference to suffering, up to omnis, otherwise we're espousing values we, as vegans are supposed to be against.

I wholeheartedly agree with Leedsveg and Korn.
In the past a family member of mine has been killed (badly) in a factory, I hope this person suffered as little as possible and my thoughts are with his family.

Firestorm: my condolences, and I agree with you and the rest of the respondents.

I worked at a turkey egg farm when I was 15 and almost lost two of my fingers in an accident. I was ignorant at the time and should have chosen a different job, but I don't think I deserved it by any means.

Thank you but this was 18 years ago so no condolences are needed

I just wanted to point out that we should not be wishing suffering on any animal (human or non human).

Agree with this. Just because someone works in a place like that it doesn't always mean that they are bad people. A person can take a job like that for many different reasons. And as vegans we should care about people and workers situations as well as animals, otherwise it's dead end.

I think I feel a bit more sorry for the innocent animals he'd killed. Nonetheless, I agree with this:

As vegans, surely we can have enough compassion to cover the animals and the man (human-animal) without a need for quantification? I thought that that's what veganism was about? Maybe best to aspire to leaving "selective compassion" up to the omnis, as that's what probably defines them best.
