This thread is really helpful as I am a Smoothie Novice! .
I've had a few over the past 2 days with varying results. Today I made one with Peaches and Oranges but all the Orange pulp was a bit too much and i found it difficult to finish .
Yesterday I used Blackberries and likewise found the pips a bit gritty .
I think I will concentrate on smooth fruits so I have smooth Smoothies rather than suffering in silence!! .
I will try some recipes listed here .
Drink a nice glass of this every morning and you'll wake up in no time.
Throw some frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, three or four ice cubes, a fairly ripe banana, and some apple juice in a blender.
Blend until smooth, pour, and enjoy.
What's the recipe for your favorite smoothie? I've been in the mood for a smoothie for quite some time now but I'm not sure what portions I should use and was just wondering what some of y'all's fav smoothies were

mmmm...
smoothies! They're all so good! Just start with orange juice.. ad a little soy milk, a banana, and some fruit! Add fruit until you like it! Should be delicious!

Let's do something about it!
I use one banana, a spoon of peanut butter and soya milk. Sometimes I add flax seeds, or maple syrup, but I find the flax makes it kind of heavy.
I normally like 1 cup of FROZEN strawberries, 1/2 banana, generous spoonful of ground flax, a cup of soy milk (or roughly 1/2 cup soy yogurt with 1/2 cup chocolate almond milk). It's not very sweet, especially if you use plain soy yogurt but you can add some agave nectar to make it sweeter.
Peace, love, and happiness.
mmm....smoothies..
1/2 c. oj
1/2 banana
strawberries
blueberries
blackberries
Has anyone ever tried making smoothies with coconut milk?
What would go well with this- bananas maybe?
I eat nutritional yeast by the spoonful.
I almost always prefer my smoothies with fruit juice as opposed to soy milk or soy icecream. However, I work at a smoothie shop, and there are a few smoothies we make there that can't really work with just fruit juice and fruit.
Pumpkin Smoothie:
- 1 scoop or half scoop (using an icecream scoop) of canned pumpkin pie filling
-8 ounces vanilla soy milk
-4 scoops vanilla soy icecream
-1 scoop ice
It is heavenly.

I love apples. I love smoothies. However, I've never tried putting an apple in a smoothie. Do you think it would work?

Yeah, apples work fine in smoothies, even with the skin left on
Seaweed, banana, flax,soymilk.
What is it with people putting sugar in their smoothies? Sugar is EVIL. No point in eating fruit if you gonna put sugar on it. I prefer rice milk over soy milk cuz its naturally quite sweet and doesn't contain added sugar.
I try to drink this one everyday when I can:
one or two bananas
handful of blueberries
handful of ice
half pint of rice milk
two tbsp of live yoghurt
two tbsp of sunflower seeds
one tbsp of linseed
one tbsp of pumkin seeds
one tbsp of almonds
I add a teaspoon of sugar because the seaweed can be a little overpowering; I am a sweet fiend, but try to confine it to sugar in tea and coffee, and a little on my Weetabix.
Just had;
Coconut milk
Orange juice (freshly squeezed)
Apple
2 Bananas
Yummy
i had my first 'nana smoothie with spirulina in this morning..one banana, top it up with soya milk and half a teaspoon spirulina..it didn't taste so different but the whole thing was a fabulous vibrant green colour!
Sorry for being dumb, but what's spirulina?
~xx
it's not being dumb!
it's a 'superfood' algae
*goes to get the tub from the kitchen*
300% more protein than fish..
no cholesterol..
58 times more rich in iron than spinach..
25 times richer in beta carotene than carrots..
twice as rich in chlorophyll than alfalfa, barleygrass or wheatgrass..
mega rich in b12..
it gets absorbed a whole lot easier into your system than synthetic multivits..apparently. I've just read all thsi off the back of the tub, but i'd recommend googling it?
Em x
Sounds awsome! Expensive?
...ish.
£9.95 for 100g of powder
can get capsules also..don't know if they'd be vegan..
got mine from the herbalist..i don't know if this is expensive for what it is..i didn't even go in to get spirulina..and came out clutching it...i was on the hunt for the ever elusive nutritional yeast
Thanks Emma, I shall have to try that!

almond milk makes a smoothie pretty thick and a bit sweeter thank soya - mmmmmmmmmmmm...........yum, with blueberries and a banana!
I have a question about smoothies. Has anyone ever tried apples in their smoothies? I have some oranges, strawberries, mango and apples, and I want to make a smoothie this week. But I'm afraid that the apples will ruin it. It just seems like one of those fruits that doesn't belong in smoothies. So anyone tried it? is it good?

yeah, no worries, chuck it in!
I luuuuuuuuurv this smoothie shaker... and its really a great anti oxidant...
Raspberries (small tub, handful...)
1 Alpro raspberry yoghurt
1/2 pint soya milk
Big blob sweedish glace raspberry or vanilla ice cream
Blend it, drink it. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM doesnt it make you feel naughty.
If i keep a green bough in my heart my singing bird will come.
i've had applie JUICE in a really good smoothie (apricots, apple juice, almonds and soya milk) once but i don't know about the actual fruit. give it a shot!
fresh fruit like blueberries can work out expensive so buy bags of frozen forest fruits etc and defrost some in a bowl in fridge overnight, whizz them with a banana, orange and maybe a dollop of nut butter...
Ooh, thanks for reminding me about putting nut butter in smoothies! I still have a whole heap to use up in the next few days

juice apples and blend with strawberries, banana and mango....mmm
My favorites are banana, blueberries and mango & watermelon and strawberries
I also like to add powered cocoa, flax , hemp, sunflowers and sesame seeds. I want to try adding almond butter soon.
Just made a raspberry milkshake with the remains of a Raspberry Swedish Glace tub some frozen whole raspberries and oat milk
Ani phyo raw book smoothie
pecans dates vanilla coconut oil and water
doesnt sound like much but ooooooooooooooooooh! so very good!
Does anyone know of any instant milkshake powder thats vegan or does it all contain D3?
The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well
someone's probably already mentioned this, but i can't be bothered to look through all 5 pages to find it.... Has anyone tried a Shakeaway milkshake? i haven't had one in ages coz the last one was so sweet it made me feel quite sick, but they are soooo nice! and i'm really impressed that the shop makes an effort to provide good vegan choices. i always have the maple syrup (soya obviously) with jelly tots. yum.

My goodness, does that Shakeaway place look splendid! Why must you mock us US citizens with your progressive and delicious dining options, Europe!??!
sorry...but if it's any consolation, we don't get creamed corn over here...
Oh my God! I think I will open a shakeaway in Aust. The vegan options are many! Don't know about the cucumber one though.
Last time I was in Britain (& I am going back 20 years) I was still having dairy and couldn't get a milk shake anywhere. The nearest I got was some pink milk in a glass at a Whimpy (odd name it means a namby pamby in Australia) Bar - was awful. Nice to see they seem to have progressed so far. Oh My!
I like to buy the huge bags of frozen fruit from costco, then whenever I want a smoothie i just throw a good handful in the blender with whatever fruit juice i have around the house, and possibly some sugar/vanilla/etc. if i'm feeling unhealthy.
I've been searching for smoothie recipes, and most sites say that you have to use frozen fruit in addition to bananas/juice etc.
My freezer is terminally ill so I can't buy frozen fruit or freeze my own.
Is it vital to use frozen fruit? Would the smoothie be ruined if, for example, I used fresh blueberries and kiwi plus bananas and juice?
When I'm feeling a bit richer I'll replace the freezer but it's not going to happen for a few months!
Thanks for any help on this

Maybe I'm weird but I never put any milk in my stuff. I would much prefer a great smoothie over a milkshake any day-the fruitier the better, and I usually use orange juice as a base because it's really tart and delicious.
So I like to use:
-orange juice
-some berries; strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, etc.
-banana
-whatever fruits I happen to have on hand
-some ice
blendddd
Either this wallpaper goes, or I do.
Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries & freshly squezzed orange juice with a dash of rice dream
Strawberries, lime juice and fruit sugar
Peaches and creame smoothie:
Frozen peaches
Frozen banana
Soy milk
Soy creamer (I use vanilla)
1 strawberry
and a bit of kiwi
A bit of whipped creame to top.
It's best to have the peaches and banana frozen so you don't need ice, Which dulls down the flavour which is already mellow in this smoothie.
