I just had a great winter comfort dinner. Lentil, potato and pea stew. I crushed some dry roasted peanuts and garlic with a pestle and mortar and put them in the bottom of the bowl, dolloped the stew on top, then put plain soya yoghurt on top of that. Sloppy, crunchy and delicious! I'm going to reek tomorrow though.

i'm having comfort food tonight; veggie stew and dumplings, with mash and broccoli. and the best, and most comforting thing? i'm not making it with luck, it will be ready for me when i get home, yay for boyfriends!

Aw that sounds amazing, need to get me one of them boyfriend things!
You mean, like, peanut butter and cucumber together??
I don't like to judge a book by the cover but that sounds kind of icky....
It's the best. The cucumber has no taste and negates the peanut butter dry mouth. The worse bit is when i top it up with prawn cocktail crisps. They add an extra texture to the sandwich.
I am master of the strange combinations. Brussell Sprouts and sweet chilli dipping sauce has to be tasted to be believed.
Peanut Butter & Cucumber Sandwich doesn't sound that "out there" to me because I love doing strange food combinations, too!
I did a spicy Peanut Butter & Roasted Red Bell Pepper sandwich before (seasoned w/ crushed red pepper flakes).... so good.
Oh, and if you want a heavenly PB/fruit combo, try it with Cantaloupe! It's even better than PB with apples, in my opinion.
Since cantaloupe is so watery, I cube the flesh and dip them in a scoop of peanut butter with a fork.
Then again, I'm a PB junkie, so I'd probably eat Motor Oil if it had PB with it
I find that since being vegan all the comfort foods I want are so much healthier, no more cadburys and ben and jerrys, I wan't veggie soups with pure on brown bread to comfort me!
fried onions, mushrooms and tomatoes on a warburtons large toastie bread with pure sunflower, a little brown sauce and a little chilli to season.................heaven
it's a bit like ketchup, only it's brown, not tomato and a bit spicy, a very English condiment
Wow--something English that's actually spicy? I haven't tried it yet (always looked a bit weird to me) but maybe I'll have to. I don't know if I want to buy an entire bottle, though--what if I don't like it? Maybe I'll try it in a restaurant or something.
My comfort food is a very simple angel hair pasta with a homemade or semi-homemade marinara sauce (maybe with a side of crusty Italian bread and olive oil), just like my mom makes it.
Garlic chicken and ginger fish with brown rice from my new favorite vegan restaurant. I forgot what the restaurant is called and it's either in Huntington Beach or Stanton but it's vietnamese (?) and amazing. My friends took me there last time I went home to vote.
I could sit and eat it all day. New amazing comfort food.
>_> It's made from food (the vodka from rye, the whisky from barley and... I don't know what spirytus is distilled from. Pure awesome I think) =p
i thought vodka was made of potatoes?
uhm, does coffee count as a kind of food? if so, coffee defintely is my "comfort food". having a large mug at a coffee shop always makes me feel a lot better.

Apparently vodka can be made of wheat, rye, potatoes, or beet sugar (according to wikipedia).
Mmm, I agree on the coffee!! Nothing better than a nice soya latte or mocha to cheer me up.

Yup, it can be made of potatoes, but also other things (usually wheat or rye).
I also agree on the coffee! I enjoy filling a tall mug with half coffee, then adding cinnamon, a tablespoon of cocoa powder and the filling the rest with soy milk.
