Dahl, especial red lentil leek
Soups of all kinds
Freshly baked breads, cookies and cakes of all kinds
There is nothing better than freshly baked bread. Hot bread right out of the oven, slathered with margarine, is the best comfort food in the world.ConsciousCuisine
And chocolate.
"Man can do as he wills, but not will as he wills" - Arthur Schopenhauer
Yes! Strawberry vegejelly still warm and unset - I eat it spoonful by spoonful, waiting until the hint of a skin has formed but it's still liquidy insideGlen
Mashed potato is my number one comfort food though, maybe with some fried mushrooms, peas, Frys hot dogs and onion gravy. Or with some Marmite stirred in
soup on a cold day
grainy bread with vegemite and soya spread
hot chocolate with soya milk.
i also find tea really comforting!
I have to agree with you on the vegemite thing
Linda McCartney sausage rolls are fast becoming another addiction.
Well today I had my first official Medjool date. Oh. My. It was soo yummy! And it does taste somewhat like caramel. If I start eating them in heaps and they will most likely become my comfort food, I blame you Banana. . Thanks for your constant plug for Medjool dates, without which I might never have tried these mouthwatering snacks, you should so be a spokesmodel of sortBanana

Coming up to Christmas I will be missing my family and my other home in Australia. I will be eating lots of vegemite as a comfort.
heehee, is marmite from that part of the world too? i've had marmite but i don't think vegemite...i like it, but not too much of it
Peace Love Surf.
We have marmite in Australia but I think it's an English thing. I could be wrong though.
Sometimes in the evenings I enjoy sitting down with a bowl of half-shelled pecan nuts to enjoy - both finishing off the shelling and finishing off the nuts!
Eve
i had a feeling, i got the marmite in an english shopRoxy

Hot chocolate made with Ghiradelli's Sweet Ground Chocolate and Pacific Hazelnut milk.
mmmm...it makes me all warm and comfy just thinking about it...
Peace Love Surf.
Toast with vegemite is definitely real comfort food!
Also roasted chestnuts: somehow reminds me of my childhood days in winter when we were all cosy inside with the fire going after a day out in the snow...

a huge glass or red wine and a huge wedge of treacle tart and/or some green and blacks dark choc with cherries in it and/or sea salt and balsamic vinegar kettle chips... "dribble", hence why i havent lost much weight since becoming vegan
it's funny, i was watching a tv program last night and had made up my minf that i must try chestnuts (i know--) and now i see posts on here, and i was thinking they seemed as though they would be a very comforting food...

My ultimate comfort food is hot chocolate fudge cake with extra chocolate sauce and swedish glace, with a cup of tea.
Meal-wise I would have to agree with the sausage, mash and onion gravy idea. Or vegetable lasagne. Or pie. Or all three!
Deffo fruit and nut choc for me.
I agree with Cherry above - mash, sausages, onions and peas are my fave comfort food as a meal.
Also just discovered village bakery mince pies and alpro soya cream ...that is tasty!
I just had one of those mince pies too!!
They have so much sugar on top, its so unnecessary!
And they fell apart, which my dog enjoyed.
Village Bakery as in Melmerby?
I live two villages along from there. I didn't realise their stuff had taken off quite so much!
I always wanted to try that whole "chestnuts roasting on an open fire..." thing. maybe I'll finally do it this christmas!
my comfort foods:
-almond butter stuffed dates (seriously can eat about 14 or 15 in one sitting if I'm in a bad mood or something... oh but then such a tummyache!)
-any kind of freshly baked vegan bread, cinnamon raisin being my favorite; i think it has something to do with the warmth and the texture that makes it comforting

mm cashew butter is good too. i just love ALL nut butters.
but you must MUST try almond butter soon. I'm a little biased, though. have you ever had macadamia butter? I want to try it because i love macadamia nuts, but i can never find the nut butter in any stores around here to try.

Comfort food for me unfortunately is anything [vegan] junk food like. the higher the cals the better it seems. Ugh! But seriously, munching on junk food all night long really helps the whole self pity-angry mood thing.
Apple cider, caramel, and soymilk or other non-dairy milk. Yum and warm.

Don't know whether you've tried it, but I use Tesco vegetable gravy granules (in the green tub, but only marked 'vegetarian'). It's in the Animal Free Shopper .catmogg
Thanks Lily will try this!!!
