Lightbulb Women and animals in the media - I need your help!

    Hello all!

I am new to the vegan message board but it was really interesting to read your comments about veganism! I have been vegan for 11 years now and love my vegan junk food! Moo Free chocolate is the way forward!

Anyway, I was just wondering if you could help me, I am currently doing my PhD and I am looking at perceptions of 'nature' in the UK as refracted through the representations of women and animals in the media. One of my chapters is on a cultural history of women and animals in the media (focussing on advertisments). I would be really grateful if you could send me your snapshots/photos/magazine articles/ads that you may think are appropriate e.g. women dressed as animals, animals depicted as women, women depicted as animals, meat/diary/eggs/fish feminised or sexualised? The adverts or articles can be old or new I do not mind! I would be really grateful for your help and participation.....

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you soon

    Cathy

Sounds like an interesting PhD, Cathdux! The first thing I thought of was the Orangina ads with the weird female giraffe. I know its a French product but I saw the ad in the British Glamour magazine so they obviously thought that it would have appeal outside of France.

Giraffe woman! not seen that one before
In the latest Lynx advert the women are portrayed in place of the animals, going into the Ark in pairs.

    Blimey, that is weird!

As you probably already know there are a lot of images that liken women to cats or vice versa e.g. the type shown here http://meagan-marie.tumblr.com/post/...61650/chatnoir If you type "cat women advertisement" into Google you will find a load more I think.

Hi , I do not have a picture but I did see on the back of a milk lorry in Bulgaria a picture of a buxom lady dressed in what can only be called a sexy cowprint outfit, not sure what the message was there

Very interesting project. It sound a little like that book by Carol Adams, The Pornography of Meat, which discusses the links between the advertising of meat products and pornography and the objectification of women - http://www.caroljadams.com/book_pron.html
