    Default Fats

i've just been reading up on fat in the diet and learning about all the different types and noticed how i'm getting way over my 30% of calories in total fat and it's scared me. So have decided to give up Redwood foods (I eat too too many hot dog sausages and fish fingers and chorizo etc etc) so that's it, got one pack of fish fingers left and that's it for me) gotta get that fat % down and get healthy. have already give up choc and crisps a few weeks ago and not really missing them.

if anyone's interested in what i've learned, you should eat less than 30% total fat consisting of 10% saturated (max) and 10% each of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated (which are good cholesterol lowering fats).

Hey there, good work on cutting out the fats.
The only fats I eat are from fruits/vegies/beans/nuts I eat.
But when I'm cooking I use a little olive oil.
You still need to get some good fats in you! =]

yes im gonna keep the good fats, that's what i said to get 10% from polyunsaturated and monounsaturated (hence stuff like olive oil etc), all those processed stuff like sausages etc seem to be full of bad fats.

Well that's processed foods for you haha.
Though everyone deserves a treat sometimes.
I'm just happy that we have the choice now of processed foods.
In Australia we have a really great food company that makes sausges, hot dogs, burgers, mince (all vegan of course) that doesn't have much or any cholesterol and adds vitamins to the foods.
Definitely healthier than really meat haha.
I love how far Veganism has come.

My trouble is I can't really eat much fat as it makes me feel sick. If I eat a packet of crisps I will feel nauseated right after. I must be getting enough of the good fats though as my cholesterol level is always very low. Does anyone else feel ill after eating something fatty?

Funnily enough I'm not too bad with my own chips but I can't eat frozen chips as they seem to be more fatty. I do miss not being able to eat crisps though, it's nice to have the odd packet now and again.

Why don't you make your own dry baked crisps Sandra?
    I love doing that. =]

Yeah but I think it's pretty easy to break the 'Pale skinny Vegan' stereotype these days. If you want to lose some weight healthily try going on a raw Vegan diet for a while.
You can be full and lose weight haha. =]
I don't really know if I would've been fatter before I went Vegan because I've been on this diet for 6 years and I was Vegetarian for 2 years before that and I'm only 19 haha.

^I tried making my own before but they just dried up and stuck to the oven tin! How do you make them?

I sliced them with a potato peeler into thin slices, put in oven on baking tray on 150C but cant remember how long for... hmm maybe i overcooked them? beetroot sounds nice.

Hmm if they were that thin on that temp I would say only half an hour.
If they are really sticking use baking paper and maybe spray a tiny bit of soya oil to lightly grease it.
I've always found that enough to work.
Yeah beetroot is yummy and zuchinni. <3

Since I'm too poor to waste money on chips and stuff like that, I've not been getting enough fat without purposefully planning it into my diet. Snacking on peanuts seems to be helping though.
By the way, I'm also trying to lose weight. What I really need to be doing is exercising instead of posting here ALL DAY.

I like to drizzle rice bran oil onto my rice/whatever after the rice has been warmed up in the microwave. Today, I had some left over veggie curry with my rice and with the rice bran oil drizzled over it, it was deliciously creamy!

I probably eat too much fat actually ....most of it from dark chocolate and whatever other sweet involving chocolate I've made
I hate it when I'm studying and a velociraptor throws bananas on me.
