Guy in the yellow tie made these two:
1. That not eating meat would end starvation forever.
2. That not eating meat would end cruelty forever.
The 'if slaughterhouses had glass walls ..." line is pretty much bunkum also. Slaughter houses do have 'glass walls' (in as much as NO walls) to those who work inside them and no slaughterman I ever met has been remotely vegetarian. My own childhood 'treat' was to sit at the killing gate of a local slaughter house and watch the whole slaughter process from beginning to end. Never put me off of going straight from there to home and having a beef dinner.
Almost hate myself for saying this but I am old enough to remember a time when the whole process was infinitely more transparent than it is today and vegetarians were rarer than rocking horse droppings. If anything it would seem to be true that vegetarianism has actualy increased as the transparency of slaughter house has diminished.
Anyways, just to be crystal clear ...
I do not think that a few flawed arguments and 'outrageous' claims diminish the overwhelming arguments in favour of veg*nism. I just think that with so many overwhelming arguments in favour that there is absolutely no need for any flawed arguments or 'outrageous' claims in the first place whatsoever.
If anything it would seem to be true that vegetarianism has actualy increased as the transparency of slaughter house has diminished.
Perhaps this is because the slaughter process is less visible. People aren't numbed to it at a young age, and therefore when they do see is as teenagers or adults they are shocked by it an take action against it. Its also part of a cultural shift, since animal 'rights' activists started fighting against factory farming in the 70s, the idea that slaughter is cruel has become more socially accepted.

A peek behind otherwise thick and secretive walls is better for turning people than glas walls that allow a permanent view, kinda thing?
I quite like that idea because it means that the meat industries secrecy may actualy lead to a slow painfull, albeit painfully slow, death from having shot themselves in the foot.
I'd rather they had shot themselves in the head, as it were, obviously!
