Default Vegan Burgers.... Whats your opinion?

Well here is an bit of old news that i had read long time back.
    Pennslyvania-based
Asherah's Gourmet has expanded its line of certified organic, certified gluten-free, soy-free Vegan Burgers at 58 Whole Foods Market stores long time back.

What wanted to know and understand does
certified organic, certified gluten-free, soy-free Vegan Burgers are they all really true?

    What is your opinion?

The only sure way to ensure a truly vegan burger is to make it yourself - and it's not difficult. Just roughly blend onion, peppers, cooked mixed beans and whatever else you fancy. Main problem is binding to stop them falling apart when grilled. Non-vegans use egg. We can use egg-replace or I use soya flour and water. Trouble is I've only hit the right combinataion of those ingredients a couple of times. The rest of the time I've ended up with a bean feast grill and not much of a defined burger.

Indeed, I would guess (and hope) that burgers marketed as "vegan" would be that as well.

Lol.. been there! Through trial and error I found if you put 1-2 tablespoons (depends on amount you're making) of ground flaxseeds into about double the ratio of fairly warm water and let it sit there till it gets reeeallly gloopy, this works really well! Chilling/Freezing the burgers first makes them easier to lift and put under the grill or oven cook.

I concur with making them yourself.. a lot of store vegan burgers are mostly just flavoured grains and wheat (if you're trying to limit that) anyway and very expensive! Batch burger and freeze 'em!

My opinion is that they are worth trying... on omnis.
I always have a few pkgs of 'normal' sounding junk in the freezer for any wary omnis that may need sustenance. If they (mostly friends' kids) eat it up, I can show the pkg and explain where to purchase instead of their animal-based convenience meal.

    works for me
the only animal ingredient in my food is cat hair

Hi Andy. I was born in Hannover, Germany - small world.

Yes, I agree food branded vegan will likely be vegan. I'm a bit obsessed with having enough protein and often find shop vegan burgers have little worth eating in them. I'm not a snob that won't buy prepared food to save time. Indeed, I enjoy a bean burger than Tesco used to make and sell but sadly they changed it to Mexican bean burger, which although has protein is coated with some blend of crumbs with an unpleasant (to me) after taste. Kudos to them, though for trying.
