Bit of a long shot, but has anyone ever been to the Noodle Bar in Coventry, and managed to get a decent meal?
No - I don't remember it being there when I lived in Cov a couple of years ago.

Coventry and decent food aren't words usually found in the same sentence!!
If you know Coventry, and fancy cooking yourself, there's a Japanese shop at Cannon Park that sells chilli marinated tofu, deep fried battered tofu and a few others too.
I usually got to Browns (city centre bar) for vegan food on a Sunday. They normally have about 6 dishes on the go. It can be a little tricky to get in though...I've been going there for many years and have never had a problem and I'm normally drunk!!
Ryton Organic is pretty good no?

okay, looks like i'm heading there tonight - i'm expecting a lot of smiles and affirmations, followed by "huh" when I ask the question "so theres no fish in this then?".
fail.
I'm sure it'll be a tasty bowl of rice .... :\
This is the new Jyoti sweet shop.
Most of these food items are vegan!!
They will be opening their new restaurant at this site maybe February (at the earliest) next year.
We will then have to arrange a meet-up for one of the Saturdays – and fill our bags with loads of goodies too!

Looks good Frank where is it?
Is it easy to get to on the bus from brum?
I find the sweets too sickly/syrupy but would like to try the savoury snacks
Nicely illustrated Frank. I went in a place a bit like that near Divali... the guy was so friendly he wanted to give me a fat pink fig shaped pistachio sweet spicey hunk of marzipan gorgeousness for free, to go with the battered chilli, and potato pasty whatsit. I managed to persuade him to accept some coins for it though.... I remember wanting to share it with at least four people.
Count me in for a look around.

^ what a lovely-looking shop!

** ++ Warehouse Café scoops ‘Best Restaurant’ award …
Announced in today’s (9th December) Birmingham the Warehouse Café has taken the crown of ‘Best Reader’s Restaurant’ in the Metro 2008 Food and Drink awards. The cafe was praised for their simple approach, unintrusive atmosphere and reasonable prices as well as for their focus on local, organic and seasonal food.

Great news that had spotted it in the Metro on the bus home today and was there to try the Christmas meal/menu tonight with some vegan friends - great food on that Christmas menu
According to their website a half portion of sausage and mash is £3.95 and a full portion is £8.65
"Mr Flibble - forum corruptor of innocents!!" - Hemlock
^ The half portion doesn't come with vegetables but the full portion does.
Anyone been to Nima Delicatessen in Moseley? About 2 mins walk from Indigo. Bought some of this year's Christmas presents from there. Like One Earth shop. Not completely vegan.
Yes, Nima's has some good things. I'm not even sure it's complete vegetarian, though.
I'd never thought of it as 'like the One Earth shop' - knowing that everything is vegan in the One Earth shop is very liberating. Also: the One Earth shop are willing to order and deliver to your home in Birmingham, for free, absolutely anything in their suppliers catalogues!
Apparently, there is a serious buyer interested in keeping The One Earth Shop vegan, but the sale is currently going very slowly so nothing will change for the next few months at least.
Apparently, also, The One Earth Shop is open today and tomorrow (Tue/Wed 30/31 Dec 2008) then open again Sat 3 Jan 2009 - closed for Hogmanay (Thu 1/Fri 2 Jan 2009).
I went into Indigo just, and was told about an offer where you get five pounds free to spend if you spend several amounts of over five pounds or something
Bad news:
Khazana is no longer strictly vegetarian, they now serve meat dishes, I spoke to them on the phone the other day and asked whether there would still be a good selection of vegan items on the menu and the buffet, the response I got was "yeah, and if not we can do them".
This is unfortunate. I'm not sure why they have chosen to do this, perhaps the number of customers was declining due to the economy so they have decided to attempt to draw in a larger customer base.
Whatever the reason, this is unfortunate.
oh no! that is bad news indeed

Has anyone been to Canalside Cafe? I saw it listed on the Redditch Veggies site. http://www.redditchveggies.makessens..._in_birmingham
I'm curious about it. Anyone got info? What time it's open till? It sounds pretty cool for the RV website info.
^I don't think it's there any more.
I also don't think it was wholly vegetarian either.
Looks like we are down to the Warehouse Cafe and Jyoti's in Brum now
I Think, Therefore I Am A Vegan
Jyoti's opens its new restaurant on Wednesday 28th January.
It's going to seat 40-50 and booking is recommended.
I would be interested in sorting out a meal there one Saturday if people are up for it.
I Think, Therefore I Am A Vegan
Fantastic!!! Would be great to have a meal there with some of you.

I might manage in February.

I'm definitely going to the new Jyoti early and often! I would love to join a group meal if I'm available, but I'm already booked for the next 3 Saturdays. I'm thinking of doing Valentine's Day there, but it'll be a small group
I went to the Warehouse Cafe a few weeks back and it was fantastic. There was a big group of us and the catered to us fantastically!
The even allowed us to bring our own alcohol as their selection was limited.
I will definetely be going back.
Changing Lifestyles is a three-day exploration of sustainable living, from noon on Mon 2 Feb until 9pm on Wed 4 Feb 2009, part of the process of building a sustainable, resilient region. It's on at the Birmingham Town Hall. You can find out more from the Changing Lifestyles Web site: http://www.globallylocal.net/ or contact Changing Lifestyles on dmc@globallylocal.net and 0121 523 6682.
I know that BVV (http://www.bvv.org.uk/) will have an information stall there - and could do with vegans to help out There's going to be a discussion of diet and environment at 3.30pm on the Tuesday, which apparently is attracting interest from a diverse range of people e.g. catering businesses, Rastafarian groups etc.
Anyone planning to go to any part of the Changing Lifestyles expo? BVV can apparently get group discount tickets if we get in touch with them this week.
(Famous Transition Towns initiator Rob Hopkins will also be there on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning).
Is during weekdays not a really funny time to organise something like this? Is it aimed primarily at students and people without jobs?
"Mr Flibble - forum corruptor of innocents!!" - Hemlock
Well, it is also in the evenings - it's running 10 am to 9 pm (from noon on Monday).
I've got a question about the Warehouse Cafe. If you're an adult can you have one of the children's meals if you want? Or do you have to just have the normal adult meals? I haven't been there too often, but I prefer the look of the children's section as I'm a fussy eater. I think last time I went, last year, I had a grilled cheese sandwich or something similar but that doesn't seem to be on their website now.
^ I'm sure I asked for one of those meals once.
They made it up to an adult size portion for me.
Here's an e-mail address for them if you want to check before your next visit:

I am going to a concert at Birmingham NIA at the end of May. Can anyone recommend anywhere near there to stay please ?
There are a few Travelodges within walking distance of the NIA Satsuma.
One on Broad Street, the other at Broadway Plaza.
Booking ahead early - you may get the room for a good price.
The Warehouse Cafe are open 7 days a week if you get hungry!
I Think, Therefore I Am A Vegan
^ There's also a Novotel and the Copthorne Hotel in that area too.
I Think, Therefore I Am A Vegan
Are any of them walking distance to the NIA ? Id like to be able to walk to the concert and back if possible
They are all within walking distance. I'd say 10 minutes max for the furthest one.
There are lots of pubs/restaurants etc heading back to your hotel if that's of interest to you.
I Think, Therefore I Am A Vegan
Thanks thats a great help
I walked past Cafe Soya in the Arcadian today and went in to look at the menu - they now serve meat/fish in there but the vegetarian menu said on it that dishes can be vegan - you have to say when ordering you are vegan.
The staff were clued up on what a vegan can/cant have and said it mentions vegan meals on their new website (which Ive looked at and does)
They do use some msg in some dishes there, but told me the vegan food is cooked in different pans, away from any meat/fish.
They have introduced the soya protein like you get in the tai buffets in London, they also make their own tofu.
http://www.cafesoya.co.uk/page2.html
Alisont, as long as I've known cafe soya existed they have served meat and fish, but yeah everything is cooked separately.
The £5 lunch special with a drink is awesome and they have about 10 different dishes to choose from
Vegan Chip Shop!!
Here's a message from my friend Lisa:
''Thought I would just let you know about a new veggie takeaway in Birmingham
Dils Diner
Chip shop & Guajarti Takeaway
1545 Stratford Road (Robin Hood roundabout) Hall Green Birmingham
B28 9JA
t:0121 7456124
I had food there the other day and found the food cheap, tasty and authentic. I had the masala Dosa, a stuffed chilli and my friend had a veggie burga and a somosa and it only came to £5, we also eat in. As Well as Guajarti (Indian) food they have veggie english style pies, veggie sausages, burgers, battered veggie sausage etc. They do dilivery within 3miles and will do catering for funtions.
You can get there from Birmingham or Solihull on the number 6 bus or the 76 from Kings Heath High Street or Solihul.
They don't advertise as beening veggie but they are and most of the food is vegan.''
I'll be trying it soon....
I Think, Therefore I Am A Vegan
I spoke to Dil's, and they said their burgers and pies aren't vegan, they didn't have the sausage wrappers to check. But they're now trying to get vegan ones in!
