Not sure that I quite understand your terminology, but if you have candida albicans, there may well be a connection to your acne, as there's a connection to psoriasis. However, starchy heavy foods will do you no good. First, though, google it out if you don't want to ask your doc.

I have read Candida proliferation is due to an incorrect diet, because fundamentally fungus feed themselves with simple carbohydrates. In fact, the greed for bread, or Potatoes, or Pizza, or Pasta or Sweets or Sugar is one of the characteristic symptoms of the Candida infection. Multivitamin Multimineral Complexes are ok, but only those that don't have yeasts, but vitamin B12 is good.

    good luck.

you should go for allergy testing. Thats what I did. I had spots, felt tired all the time and was bloated after eating. I had a vegatest to diagnose my allergies.
The Vega test device is capable of checking the energies of all parts of the body which reflect their health or disease. It is also possible to check both food and environmental intolerances.
The VEGAtest requires the patient to hold a hand-held electrode. Instead of using specific acupuncture points, one point at the end of a finger or toe is used and an ampoule derived from an organ in the body is used as the main diagnostic indicator. In EAV the so-called indicator drop is the cardinal electrical abnormality, in the VEGAtest the disorder control is the indicator of dysfunction.
Vega test uses homeopathic forms of foods, chemicals etc .....

It showed that I was allergic to yeast and sugar, and that I had candidiasis (abnormal growth of candida in bowels and small intestine). That was why i had the spots and other symptoms. The candida and bacteria live in the bowels and intestine, but antibiotics, and lack of probiotics can deplete the bacteria and the candida grows out of control. It is advisable to avoid yeast and sugar as this feeds the candida, and to take a probiotic such as acidophilus. The spots and tiredness have gone and I feel much better.

Also, if not treated this condition can lead to food allergies.

Maybe at first if you didn't want to have the allergy testing, you could just avoid yeast and sugar and see if that helps!!

vegechic, like everyone else has said, candida can be brought on by yeast and sugar in the diet.

Are you talking about candida albicans, as in 'thrush', or is there some other form of it that just causes spots?

If you're talking about candida as in 'thrush', it flourishes when the vagina is not acid enough...the vagina is normally acid, which prevents candida growth. Pregnancy, birth control pills, antibiotics, diabetes and menstruation all make the vagina less acid, and so more prone to candida infection.

It would be good if you modified your diet to prevent recurrent attacks, but to relieve symptoms, try adding some vinegar to your bath water, or a bowl you can sit in (1-2 tbspns per litre). Also yogurt helps to restore a healthy vaginal flora, so if you aren't put off by the idea, you could try that And women have cured infections by putting a clove of garlic in their vagina every day for three days...garlic is antibiotic.

I have had this occasionally, and I found that oil infused with calendula flowers was very soothing and I also sometimes used olive oil with a couple of drops of tea tree oil.

But changing your diet's the best thing! Try to overcome your cravings and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

candida can live in quite a few systems in different life stages. I've read a little about it, but acne didn't seem to be a major result of candida infection from what I've read so far. It's not easy to get rid of if your health is compromised, as the more aggressive flushes and diet changes can is a complication. Many men also suffer candida infection, but usually only in the digestive tract. Any woman suffering thrush also has a a culture in their digestive system according to some informative sites I've found. This results in a constant reoccurrence.

Does anyone know a surefire way to annihilate candida of the intestines?

From what I've read, it's one of those things that's always present, but doesn't usually cause problems, unless it multiplies out of control when conditions are favourable for it, IE, a too-alkaline environment.

Under the thread 'Yeast infections - a women's thread' I posted: http://www.yeastconnection.com/ - excellent website for women.

By the way, how old are you? Maybe your spots are what sub-teens have - but giving in to your craving for sugary foods, and feeling that you can't live without bread ... well plenty of people in the world don't eat bread, and live, and not everyone has sugary foods.

And what's the use of looking it up as you say, if you don't do anything about it?

I hear that the extract from grapefruit seeds is a very powerful candida albicans 'remover'. You should take it in combinaton with an acidophilus supplement though. I'm not sure what 'extract of grapefruit seed' is actually called (eg the herbal name for it). ...It may just be 'extract of grapefruit seed'.

I'm pretty sure the plain provamel tub (500ml) is live as well, as I seem to remember using the tail end of a pot to make my own yoghurt before.

Default New health probs, suggestions please?

I have just been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse (could be secondary to candida overgrowth or lack of magnesium or my disability).

The candida may be due to a possibility to me having diabetes type 2.

I am having a blood test tomorrow to establish whether I have candida in my bloodstream and also check my mineral levels.

I am taking CoEnzyme Q10 (helps the effiency of the heart)
Will start epson salts (one teaspoon in a glass of water daily) for magnesium.
    Soya yogurt for candida.

Diet- I have cut down on bread intake and anything yeasty. Also cut down on refined sugars.

Does anyone else suggest anything to help??.

What about acidophilus? It did help me when I had candida problems after taking antibiotics. I was also told that things like peasoup, carrots, vinegar, some fruits, wine and beer should also be avoided. Hope you're feeling better soon, tails.

Hi Tails, seeing as you're a nurse and all I'll don't meant to patronise, but to anyone else whose reading this, it's usually a genetic condition, and can affect as many as one in twenty people, more often women than men. Many of people never really know they have it.

One of the best treatments is gentle exercise (although, if it's very severe and a valve replacement on the cards, it can be discouraged), and some people believe it's related to a magnesium difficiency, or rather, people usually respond to magnesium, so you've got that area covered.

You can also fast/detox diet to treat candida tails, although it is a far more intense experience! Candida feed on sugar, so a few days without food means they die out.

Thanks folks. I am trying alternative remedies first before any other treatment.

I have acidophylis tabs. But if I start antibugs for candida I will try them then.

Just wondered if anyone had other suggestions that may help.

Someone has just given me a bottle of vegan wine!!. Its a diet suggestions I need really to combat candida and to control diabetes type 2. I dont want to take tabs for the rest of my life if I can help it!!. I already take COQ10 daily.

Chances are they might not give you any treatment. After magnesium there's not much out there they prescribe regularly. And it's not like it's realted to weight or diet, in fact, usually it tall thin women that have it (with long fingers oddly enough, do you have long fingers?).

And just think, with it affecting about 1 in 20, chances are someone else on this board has it with you and doesn't even know!

No Nivvie not thin or have long fingers!!.

8o% women with Mitral valve Prolapse have an overgrowth of candida, so I hedge my bets thats the cause (according to a website)

Diet should sort out my diabetic type 2 problem witha bit of luck. My blood test is tomorrow.

Problem with Mitral Valve prolapse with the stickyness of the platelets can occur, then that could be a problem!.

I saw a Kineseologist in work who suggested that I have Candida Albican, and it really made sense, when i saw all the symptons. She suggested I take a course of lacto acidophillus (vegan ones from H and B), that contain 2 billion or more bifido bacterium.

She also suggested how important an elimination diet is to starve off the candida as they had layed down roots, so the combination of the acidophillus and diet blasts them away really by starving the candida off and replacing the good bacteria.

I have done this in the past and found it really effective and I never felt so good as i did when it had cleared. However its come back so I am going to get back on the elimation diet and try to starve the candida once more.....oh the joy

    Hi Piggy,

Well, you basically go right back to basics and eat only natural whole foods for a set time, to help rid all toxins, waste etc from your body. Then you can gradually introduce other foods back into your diet and it helps to figure out what your allergic too etc.....

Thanks VeganLiz. I will give it a try. Does this mean I also eliminate the tiny bit of lemon juice that I have in the morning with warm water to aid my digestion? I'm assuming so.
So I do this for 2 weeks?
I am also very 'spotty'. I never used to be. I wonder if there is indeed a correlation between acne and candida. I do think acne is related to my diet in some way so I will see how I go with eliminating fruit for awhile. Fruit is the only sugar I eat. I eat a very healthy diet otherwise (lots of vegies and brown rice though I know I should be adding beans to my diet), tofu, rice porridge and rice milk are pretty much the only 'processed food' I eat.

    Hiya Sparrow

Wow your diet sounds pretty good already. One other thing you are also meant to cut out all soya products including tofu. I went to see a nutritionist about my problem who specialised in stomach disorders and gut disorders) which is one of the places the candida lives when you have an over growth of candida. This is because soya products are fermented and any fermented contains yeast which helps the candida populate. She said I could have one portion of soya a week e.g. some tofu in a stir fry or a cup of soya milk.

Try using nut milk or rice milk instead and eat more beans and pulses. She said that lemon in water was fine but no other fruit!

Yes i also have lots of problems with acne which are back now but cleared up when I was on my diet! Also get excema which is a common side affect.

I know that I probably should have a naturopath or someone else to monitor me but I am pretty broke at the moment.
I will cut out the soy products, I will miss my beloved tofu! Hmm..come to think of it, it was around the time that I really upped my soy intake that my acne got out of control.
Would you mind if I emailed you?

I'm also trying to follow a candida diet. I was worried that it might not be compatable with veganism as most books on candida seem to recommend lots of meat/fish and not much rice, pasta etc. But recently I've read and article where it states that cutting out animal products is recommended, and eating lots of wholegrains and pulses. I've only been strictly vegan for a week so will see how it goes. If anyone else is vegan and following this diet it would be great to hear how you're getting on with it.
