Default What would you like to know 'bout Sweden?

We've got an english assignment and we're supposed to introduce Sweden to foreigners and have a special target group. So naturally I decided to make my inroduction to foreign Vegans and Vegetarians

So all I'm asking is that you just post up the questions that come to naturally to you, if you were going to Sweden (for vacation, for an extended period, to live here etc.) What would you like to know? I'd really really appreciate the help.

EDIT: it doesn't have to have to do with veganish stuff either, "regular" questions (eg: what is the old town i stockholm like?) are appreciated as well

Well, given your target audience, the first question should probably be something along the lines of "How well are vegans catered for in Sweden?"
Are there plenty of places to eat, or shops to buy your own food?

What kind of native animals are there? Are there many places to see them in the wild or to go hiking type of activity?

I know nothing about Sweden. How about a brief history?
As you're targeting veg*ns what is Sweden's position on vivisection and animal rights?

What is the capital city of Sweden and what vegan-friendly tourist ideas can you suggest for the first-time visitor?

are any of those gooorgeous blonde swedish birds available, and would they fall madly in love with a podgy, ageing, skint, rather bad-tempered english bloke?

Tofu Monster, you should really move to the US. We expect our men bad-tempered and are powerless before English accents (on the east coast, anyway).

What is the main food crop of Sweden? The most popular singing group, actress, actor, television show? Is the healthcare free to all citizens? Are most people home-owners or do they rent? Is there adequate public transportation or do most people own cars? How many McDonald's, Starbucks, Walmarts and other nasty American imports do you have (and could you take the rest of them out of here, please)?

Dear me, I never heard that one before, I'll have to check that out

And as for Tofu monster, I suggest you follow Dianecrna advice

I'm a Swedish brunette with dark brown eyes! I think is as fun to be brunette in Scandinavia as it is to be blonde in US and the Mediterranean countries.

Yay! Sweden is my next stop, so...

I've read that Swedes think animals taste better if they are treated better, is this true?

Has it always been illegal to smack your children, or is this relatively recent?

Is there lots of red tape and forms in daily life, rather like Italy, or is it generally a simply run place?

Is it true doctors practice mainly in hospitals, as opposed to having offices in the community?

Well yeah people do generally think that because there'd be less adrenaline and medicins in the flesh upon consumption so...

Well...Not "always" but it goes way back...I think it was allowed when my grandma was little, but I'm not sure....

Well I think we're pretty easy on the formals, swedes tend to want to be polite and not bother other people unneccesarily, this politeness can seem a bit stiff and makes it difficult for casual conversation between strangers but...most people are willing to help

Well...what kind of doctors do you mean? Because there are community doctors who work at little...stations for a lack of better word out in the communities and they treat children and general sickness (such as fevers). More advanced doctors and specialists tend to keep to hospitals and special clinics though.

    Hope that answers your question

I have always wanted to live in Sweden.. perhaps not permanently, but for a couple of years maybe. It seems such a beautiful, vast country.

It's a widely-believed myth about the suicide rate. The table here shows that Sweden is pretty much average with a suicide rate of 15.9. Strangely enough, Russia seems to be insanely high, wit ha rate of 43.1. Could it be karma paying them back for all that fur they wear?

I keep forgetting that not everyone here speaks 127 languages. I do and just assume that others do, too.

    The English translation is:

What are the Socialist government's ecomonic policies in relation to the increased taxation caused by the Vevelborg Agreement?

i don't speak a word of swedish but that sounds more like "excuse me, where is the toilet?".

kiran, obviously it would have to be a gorgeous blonde vegan swedish bird. but i might as well ask for a 3-legged vegan albino dwarf: that's just as likely to happen!

Thank you, Robin, for the coded answer to my economic question. I would have expected it to be on the Left but it just goes to show that life is full of surprises.

That Tofu is obviously a linguist, too. I'm sure that he can speak as many languages as Babelfish.

Sssh! Careless words cost lives. Don't tell the whole world that we are spies.

For anyone else reading this, I will add that the word 'spy' is a Swedish slang word for 'Morris Dancer'. I met Robin at last year's World Morris Dancing championships. My team nearly won but we were disqualified for wearing unauthorised underwear.

We wear special underwear to give us extra support during all that prancing. My team had specially designed underwear that hadn't been authorised by the governing body. It was thought that it gave us an unfair advantage due to its better support.

Kiran, I see that you like Irish music and dancing. So do I. In fact, I'm learning to play the tin whistle. That Jean Butler is really bonny, isn't she? I'll treasure that moment when we were dancing together and she told me that she wished it had been me who had been in Riverdance with her instead of Michael Flatley. Perhaps she was just saying that to flatter me, but she did say that my dancing style is fluid and dynamic, like liquid fire. I hope you enjoy your trip to Dublin to see the dance.

Hmm, the ice hotel...if my memory serves me right it's not open during the summer because, well, it melts. So they rebuild it every autumn O_o

Our team actually made third place in the championships, I must say I am rather proud of that

Oh and Gliondrach, you should work on getting those underwear authorised, you could make a bundle out of it

Nah.. I can't make it to dublin. Bit strapped for cash at the moment. So no riverdance for me this year..

Yeah like you said, Jean Butler is very bony and she is pretty tall too. I like her more in dancing on dangerous ground with Colin Dunne. That was quite good and had a nice dramatic background.

I would like to learn irish dancing but I am too old for that now. Also irish dancing is for skinny people. I am quite muscular and bulky so I will probably break my feet or something trying to dance a jig. So I better be an audience. i like it that way.

If you want lots of English people to emigrate to the US you should try choosing a better president next time. The one you have is definitely a deal-breaker.

I only saw these latest posts when I did a Gargoyle search for Gliondrach. This forum comes in second place on Gargoyle for that term.

Having strong and sturdy legs has never hampered my dancing. I find them to be enhancing.
