A lady I was talking to about her daughter last night was describing her daughters (5 yo) elevated serum B12. It was over twice the population average and while not being the cause for great alarm in itself the cause was very interesting.

The family had beein living in an industrial area that smelts lead. The duaghters blood led levels were very high and the family moved away as a result but the B12 levels have stayed high in her system despite the move.

As I read recently that B12 is used in the clean up of soil contamination I am fascinated to know what mechanism is involved in elevating the blood B12 over the long term as a result of having to chelate and remove the lead from the body.

The doctor said it was a normal response and the mother spoke to a nurse friend about it who later reported that since then she has seen at least one other case.
