Adding user pictures/attachments/avatars

Does anyone know the size requirements for adding attachments to a thread?

There are lots of places that let you upload your photos for photo albums on the web. Yahoo and lots of others do it for free

after you have uploaded the photo right click on it and choose save image location and then you come here and open a post then click on that little icon that icon on the toolbar then past the link location into the line then click OK and your picture will appear here

You can use that to post any picture from the web

If you click on the

Icon on the toolbar above where you type a reply this gets you to put in the URL or hyperlink that points to the location of the elsewhere on the internet. I expect that then when you view the page the picture is sourced by your internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox etc) from the other locations (like Photobucket) thus not using up bandwidth allocated to Vegan Forum by the host service provider.

As Korn says, though, either way that you do it means usage of bandwidth for the member or guest viewing the page. So it's a form of internet etiquette to make the photo's you use small enough for the lowest common denominator which is 56k dialup modem.

I posted some photo's I took in the World Vegan Day thread, do they take too long to download for anyone? They are about 55kb 70kb and 80kb,

All of them are hosted at my ISP which is OPTUS in Australia and not loaded on the Vegan Forum site.

I was going to post a few more so people could see the crowds at World Vegan Day Melbourne and The Cruelty Free Expo in Melbourne which was on the week before. WVD.

I've just changed a setting which means that if you want to upload a picture, you need to post a link to that picture instead of uploading it. This means better looking posts, smaller database files to back up, and hopefully less bandwidth problems. (We had almost a 40% increase in traffic from February to March, and pictures eat a lot more bandwidth than text...)

I believe (but I'm not sure) that a link to a picture doesn't use more bandwidth that normal text does.

You should still be able to upload avatars and user pictures without any problems.

Here's what you need to do in order to post a picture inside a message:
1) Click on the picture icon - which looks like this:
2) Enter the URL of your image (example: http://www.unoriginal.co.uk/gallery/frontanimal.gif)

That's it, except that you need to click OK!

I want to get my pic next to my name when I leave messages etc , like most of you have .
I have a picture in my user cp thing, but just don't know how to move it so it's under my name.Or is it alreayd there and I just can't see it and everyone else can lol.
I am fairly useless with PCs btw so please speak slowly lol.

I don't as I have it saved in MY PICTURES for ages now.
I shall just choose another pic, its odd tho becuase I have managed to save it on this forum but just dont know how to get it under my name lol.

See! Im not the only one who cant do this stuff!! Do you have a teenager at your disposal Veggiewoman? Unfortunately Ive found this is the only way to post pictures and it seems to cost a lot of money to bribe the buggers to do it

aha, if you do want to do that, you can enrol on photobucket for free, and if you want a hand uploading the images, will guide you through it as you can get the http bit from doing that

Make sure your picture is no larger than 100x140 pixels, and go into your user cp and select "edit avatar". That's what the picture by your username is called. Selecting the browse button should work if your picture is stored in your computer. You shouldn't have to use a photo hosting service, and don't try "manage attachments", as that will not add a picture to your avatar. If you cannot reduce the size of your picture you can download a photo editor that will enable you to do that. I don't know if the forum software automatically resizes, so you might get a message that your picture is too big.

Hi veggiewoman, our forum software has built in avatar and user pic resizing (since version 3.5) so you don't even need to worry about size/pixels...

not sure where to post this/who to ask, but can anyone help me to upload my profile photo?

It seems a bot too big, so wont upload, but not sure how to reduce the size...anyone au fait with this?

You'll need to use some photo editing software.
Are you on a PC or Mac or other? Most operating systems come with something that will do built in.
