Do you know about Karin Ridgers in Essex, who does the veggievision website? She is in your neck of the woods I think...

    Default Vegan Fest 2005

    Hiya!

Yep its all go again for the next Essex Veg Fest! 2 December 2005

We really need YOUR help to make it the best so far - so please help by telling as many people as possible about the event.

The flyer is now available to download and print from www.essexveganfestival.org.uk

    Under the media section

If you would like some flyers posted to you to share with friends, work colleagues, neighbours, or to put in shops etc please do let me know your address & how many you would like and I will post you some (if you can print some from the website that would be fab too!)

Although the event is designed that vegans and veggies can have a super cruelty free celebration we also plan the event so that non veggies can sample veggie delights in a positive way and enjoy a fun evening too

So please feel free to share the event with non veggie friends and family!

More details will follow but this year there will be lots of new stalls, talks, free stuff, massage - and unusual Christmas pressies to buy!

Thanks for your help - its needed and appreciated

    With best wishes,

    Karin

Oooh why have I been so slow to jump on this thread?! I don't know!

Anyway, I'm from Harlow. Does anyone know if the girls from the Vegan Harlow site (Carly and Lian, I think) are still around? Cause the site hasn't been updated this year and I sent an email a few months back and had no reply

Is anyone going to that show in Chelmsford, New You (or something)?? I got an email about a V&V F stall there. I was thinking about helping but I'm not sure I'd be much use. Anyone else heard anything about it?

And here is the email I got in the first place about it!

I wonder if you can help? The Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation – Viva!’s sister health charity – needs volunteers to help on its stand at:

    The New You Show
    Saturday 24 June – 10am-5pm
The Shire Hall, High Street, Chelmsford

The Show – further details of which can be found at www.newyoushow.co.uk – is billed as a “refreshing event for women who want sparkle……from changing your career to changing your look, improving your health, to improving your bank balance”. Sounds interesting!

Amanda Woodvine, the Foundation’s campaigner, will be at the Show and actively promoting the health benefits of a veggie diet. On the stand there will be free resources available as well as a selected range of merchandise.

If you’re free on the day to give her a hand, we’d love to hear from you!! Just drop me a quick email, stating whether you can help for the morning, afternoon or whole day and Amanda will get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

    Many thanks,

I'm from just outside Southend-on-Sea. It's great to see that there are so Vegans locally Anyone know any other good places to eat in Southend other than "The Last Post"s Veggie burger? I know that the sandwhich bar under the railway bridge has vegan bread and a selection of salad, but I seemed abit pricy for what I got.

Anyone tryed Sainsbury's salad bar? 99p for a tub, of £1.50 for a larger one?

Tabitha told me there was a vegan place in Southend. She said it is quite pricey though. Not sure if it is the same place you mention or not. I'll ask her.

Edit - she says it's called Cafe Pulse, and it's actually in Leigh-on-Sea. It's near Leigh Broadway.

It's a vegatarian restaurant so not totally vegan but has vegan options labelled on the menu & as I found out when I tried to go there on a Monday - it's closed on Mondays! I think it's on Leigh Road, not far from where the bowling place was/is. Nice food though & the maple pecan vegan cheesecake is gorgeous

Little worrying that it says that all dishes are free from eggs and other animal products, but paneer and parmagiano are listed as ingredients.

Definitely looks worth checking out, though

i lived near Seven Kings for a short time, it sounds nice although as Pob says it's a bit strange that they say they are free from animal ingredients and still list paneer and parmagiano - although they say they use a pure veg alternative to this, which could be Parmazano (vegan parmesan), i've never heard of vegan paneer.

They have two menus in there now, you have to ask for the vegan menu.

And when I ordered off the vegan menu, they sent me the vegetarian menu version - ie smothered in cheese.

Dunno why they can't have one menu with everything on, then that wouldn't be as likely to happen for a start, and all the customers would see there were vegan options.

Eating out in Essex can be a bit hit n miss which i why i usually get on the train and get to London as often as i can. Mildreds, Red Veg, the Tai Buffets, The Peking Palace in Holloway Road, Eat and Two Veg, and Beatroot are all absolutely brilliant, and if you haven't checked them all out then you really really should. Seriously.

I could go on and on about the great food in London but to get back on the Essex track here's a link to veggiechelmsford which is run by a nice lady called Anne, i'm sure she could use some help to get some more places on there.

    http://www.veggiechelmsford.com/

Meanwhile if you are in or near chelmsford then i would check out the Lanthai Thai restaurant in Victoria Roadwhich does bean curd option for most of the dishes, just make sure you ask for no fish sauce in any dish and you will be fine, their Thai curries are phenomenal.

Hello, I'm new here. I'm in Harlow. There is a place called cafe mio near the bus station that does a lovely jacket with roast veg and hummous, vegan and good size. They also offer soya milk in drinks and i've bee told they have soya marg. Its got sofas downstairs. Its popular but great place to take friends for lunch. Does anybody know of the noodle bar opposite wetherspoons does anything vegan? Not sure bout the noodles.

heyo peoples am pretty new here myself
    but
    the above quote
    are you still around etc?
i go to writtle college etc n its been really hard for me here
the on campus restaurant does practically nothing vegan
for instance last night they done ratatouille and covered it in cheese
they have an obsession with cheese
n its really awakard to try n get into tescos etc
ive attempted to ask them to not put cheese on etc
    and nothing happens
ive given them a recipe book and had meetings with the head chef
and ive even given them the contact details of redwood foods and fry's etc etc
    . . .
no change as of yet though . . surprise surprise

and nobody here is exactly supportive of a vegan diet to be honest
they are all rather rude and abusive about it

i dnt have much money, or any real way of transport (that might change this sumemr though)

but yeah . . basically i just thought i would say that i am very much not enjoying the general feeling towards vegans in essex
and i am rather willing to come help in anyway =]
