Cheezly toasty.
Cheezly toasty.
Butternut squash soup. I'm having it now and I think it's terrible.
Either this wallpaper goes, or I do.
"Elfen-Tofu" from Hexerküche. It's made with kombucha instead of nigari, so it's totally unlike normal tofu, but incredibly tasty. Can't get enough of it.
I've never dared buying any of the Hexerküche products... the company name kinda scares me...
The company name is strange indeed. ;-) But you should dare trying their products if you like strongly flavoured tofu.
over the past two weeks i have tried lots of new things;
rose apple
winter melon juice
winter melon syrup
steamed root vegetables inc purple carrots and what looked like a sort of blue ish potato
jungle leaves
red bean roll
little crunchy peanuts, im not sure why they were different but they were lovely,
and vegan oreos!
oh and a wierd 3 segmented fruit which instantly dries your mouth, related to a lychee i think, its so odd but lovely
and also these little fruits which look kinda like an apricot but taste like a mango, they have a stone like a mango too.
In an attempt to get out of a very monotonous lunch repetition I cooked some wholewheat macaroni, then added some clearspring sea vegetable miso soup packet mix, boiling water, and some marigold boillion powder.
Result: Miso Macaroni Soup.

I make no apologies for myself, my passions, my love, my honesty, my intensity, my soul. Reach beyond your fears and take all of me or nothing at all.
I tried durian last time i was there...not a huge fan!! everyone else I was with had a similar reaction to small jackfruit in the same way but i really really liked that, even though it tasted a bit like petrol.
The lychee like things werent rambutan which I also love, they were less 'watery' than that, and their skin was like an armadillo, very odd! I ate so many lychees and longans, and drank so much lychee tea.

Yeh I am thinking about it at the moment, possibly becoming a dive master, though really the fruit alone would be enough to make me move! I've tried to find the name of that lychee like fruit but have failed so if anyone has any ideas what it could be I'd love to know!
I also tried tamarind drink for the first time, I quite liked it, though the flavour is so strong and the glass suddenly seemed really big!
I could eat fruit all day out there! I ate way too many bananas in the Caribbean. I'd happily move back to Far East Asia, it's close enough to home for regular visits.

I'm drinking teecino -- a tea substitute for coffee -- for the first time today.
Thanks to Kitteh for recommending it; I found it at my local supermarket!

It's 2 days before pay day and we are skint and it's bottom of the barrell cooking time so me and Corum had a turnip, lentil and rice casserole.
Not the best meal we've ever had I have to say.
Silent but deadly :p
Today I ate seitan for the first time in my life!
I'm excited - I didn't expect it to be so tasty!
Now I'm trying to find a place where I could buy it...
No luck so far.
I had...injeera? I think thats it, its an african sourdough pancake. Most delicious dinner I have had in ages, it was with 3 different vegetable dishes. From a fairtrade place in reading, has anyone been there? It's amazing!
oooh I've never tried Ethiopian food... there used to be a vegan Ethiopian place in London but it closed down before I got to try anything. what's the place you went to called?
erm I think it was something like the global cafe bar, it definitely started with global!

I had Linda McCartney frozen sausages for the first time ever at the weekend.

Vegan Stuffed Grape Leaves.
They're pretty much a staple dish in Romania, and I used to love them, but I haven't been able to eat them in 4 years because they're typically made with pork or beef or something.
My aunt found some vegan ones at a store and bought them for me.
The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool.
The ones we get here are generally just filled with rice and herbs. Never seen any non-vegan ones!
"Danger" could be my middle name … but it's "John"
I've never seen any non-vegan ones in a store either. This is actually the first time I've seen any in any store, but when I was growing up I'd always see it made with some sort of meat, so I was super excited to see they made them like this.

Also known as stuffed vine leaves, or dolmades, we get them in the midle eastern grocers, vegan very tasty. Some people make a similar dish with spinach or cabbage leaves.

OMG
TOTAL Whole Grain Wheat Flakes
A vegan friend informed me that Total was more nutritious than other breakfast possibilities, and I didn't think much of it. But, since she mentioned it, I looked for Total when I was in the cereal section. 3/4 cup of Total contains
Vitamin A 10%
Vitamin C 100%
Calcium 100%
Iron 100%
Vitamin D 25%
Vitamin E 100%
Thiamin 100%

Niacin 100%
Vitamin B6 100%
Folic Acid 100%
Vitamin B12 100%
Pantothenic Acid 100%
Phosphorus 8%
Magnesium 6%
Zinc 100%
I also happened to have a coupon for Edensoy, so I decided to get some Edensoy Soymilk even though I wasn't a fan of that which I had previously tried. This was a different kind, and one serving of it contains
Vitamin A 30%
Calcium 20%
Vitamin D 10%
Thiamin (B1) 8%
Niacin (B3) 6%
Folate (B9) 10%
Phosphorus 10%
Magnesium 10%
Iron 6%
Vitamin E 25%
Riboflavin (B2) 4%
Pyridozine (B6) 6%
Vitamin B-12 50%
Pantothenic Acid (B5) 8%

Pretty sweet, huh? No shortage of B Vitamins for me today! I think I should make a very long-lasting habit of this. No more worries about the complete inability to find vegan vitamin tablets.
Wait a second!! If vitamin supplements have fish in them, what fortifies Total???

First the first time ever I cooked Tofu! Today, I am a real vegan I'd only ever had Brasied Tofu once, back in Feb, and it was the most disgusting thing I'd ever tasted, but I've just tried frying firm Tofu in balsamic vinegar and olive oil and it was shockingly yummy!
Braised tofu is horrible Proper tofu is ace though!
Seaweed. Kombu.
I soaked it, chopped it up and added to some green lentils and marigold.
It was foul :-(
I thought it would be crispy and easy to sprinkle on food !!!
^ Haha, yes, I got what you meant originally. Was just being my usual difficult self

I've never found a recipe using braised tofu which is nice.
As a curiosity it's worth trying and it does taste suprisingly good for something that otherwise looks like dog food, but it's not something I've ever found a use for.

I'm using her site as a guide to eating low fat meals and losing weight and I have to say it was scrummy! The cauliflower sauce had a slightly cheesy taste which I loved.
Yesterday I had plantain for the first time. I bought it before Christmas, but it only just ripened.
I prepared them like in this blog, and they were lovely. In fact they would be brilliant for scooping up hummus too...

Stir fried kiwi.
It was weird.
Matcha soy milk maple syrup shake. Actually, I had this a few days ago, but I put so little matcha into it (because it's so expensive), that I couldn't taste it.
brussel sprouts, i roasted them with olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic, it was very nice, but i think i need to cook them longer next time, i may try again tonight...
