''He says there is no evidence of people simply killing for fun, with the mutton-bird season a part of local life.
"It's basically recreational, it's done on the west coast, it's very important. It's a traditional recreational pursuit. We don't have a lot of recreational things to do on the west coast - no movies, theatres, no McDonalds, whatever you do in Hobart and the big cities, so people have got to do other things. And, as a result, we look forward to the mutton-birds season every year."-West Coast Mayor Darryl Gerritty
So definitely not done for fun then....recreation, yes, but fun????absolutely not!!
Blackadder: Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?
Baldrick: Yes, it's like goldy and bronzy only it's made out of iron.
It really is barbaric! Murdering chicks for fun.
There is more information at the website, Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania.

Thank you for that url, Jacqui. This muttonbirding really is a disgrace, and what does it mean to say that birds are for personal use only and not to be sold? What is the personal use I wonder?
Eve
I have been told some people eat them.
I live in Tasmania, and have been getting involved to try and get this barbarism stopped. This sort of thing really does belong in the past.
