dont shop at tesco..dont support big supermarket chains..just read how all these tesco products contain some oil that is being harvested in african jungles and is contributing to the slaughter of chimps. shop at co-ops and local health food stores. you arent supporting local agriculture by shopping at these big chains.

sometimes it is sooo inconvient to avoid these superstoresi do my best.
at least we can encourage them to take on vegan ideas inthe long run.
but on the other hand i am thankful for that info about tescos...are any supermarkets more ethical though?!i love sandwhiches but avoid them cos im avoiding bread..it makes me poorly and fat!!!ol
Almond butter and mixed spring salad. Sounds strange but it's even better than peanut butter and lettuce.
Right now on the stove I have a concoction I made to stop me from spending all of my money on Amy's black bean burritos.
1 can enchilada sauce
1 can tomatoes
1 yellow squash (cut with a french fry maker!)
1 zuchinni (the same)
1 cap of Mrs. Dash mesquite
1 jalepeno
1 red pepper (actually half)
I'd say probably a cup and a half of dry black beans by from Whole Foods
1 cup broccoli
* Corn (didn't have any but would have been good)
Cook in as skillet until the veg are done the way you like
Place about 5 heaping teaspoons on a tortilla and heat on med in a skillet until the bottom is firm.
p.s. all veg (including those chopped with french fry maker were further) chopped into smallish chunks

apologies if someone else has already posted this, but sandwich lovers may be intrested to know in the UK Fresh! are holding a sandwich competition. Fresh! make lots of wraps and sanwiches including vegan ones i have been so thankful for when I get caught out with surprise overtime or forgetting my lunch. Their website is here:
although I found it bit difficult to use to start with.
This was my entry by the way:
A seeded bread roll spread with tomato chutney, a grilled portabello mushroom and toasted pine nuts with a genorous portion of baby leaf spinach. hmmmm. ooh and a sprinkle of nutmeg cos no mushroom is complete without it.
i try really hard never to shop at big chains like asda or tesco. i despise them.
i try to shop at co-op, and if that fails, then sainsburys, cos they are the 2nd best in the UK, IMO. but most of all, i prefer to shop at my local health food/vegan store Grassroots. its my little haven
i also support my local convenience stores, and greengrocers.
I had smokey seitan, sliced tomato, and hummous - that was nice
!!
i recently tried spicy seitan slice with humous, and soycheese & salad.. mmm its soo good
---
i bought sainsburys "good for you" salad cream today, because people on here said it was vegan. i havent eaten salad cream for yeeeeeeears and i tried some today and it was ok
so tomorrow i shall be having salad cream & soycheese with salad

I have to shop at supermarkets, unfortunatly.
I usually have cream cheese and cucumber or houmous and something in sandwiches.

You mean the toffuti-type cream cheese? is that any good? I've seen a few different flavours out there but I'm too poor to buy one if it's gonna suck :<
*gag* Don't knock it till you've tried it though, eh? I like tofu and sundried tomato dip, but I'm not all that into sandwiches. Actually, don't much like bread....

Yes the toffuti...garlic and herb one I think I buy, it isn't bad really. Quite nice on sandwiches etc.

Till recently, I had never tasted Tofutti Cream Cheese. On a trip to Herefordshire Redwellies made me eat a bread coated with plentiful of cream cheese. Wow!! Home made bread and cream cheese is amazin!! Thanks Redwellies.
Now I'm an addict of cream cheese. Its adding some unwanted pounds to my arse. But who cares??? It tastes incredible.

Aw, I've just read more of this thread for sandwich ideas and now I want a damn sandwich!! lol But I have a slight problem, i have no bread, and no ingrediants for a sandwich so I'm going to have to wait. *cries* I hate craving things but not being able to have them lol!
Someone who don't like sandwiches or bread...wow, lol I've never known someone who doesn't like sandwiches.

i was eating Redwood Cheatin' ham, 'cheddar' Cheezly and Sussex pickle sandwiches recently, yum. but i'm not eating bread at the moment because i can't digest wheat properly. i love bread and i can't have any wheat-free bread is disgusting and pointless.

In Australia, bell peppers are called 'capsicum' and the lil ones we just call chilli. Also, aubergine we called 'eggplant' and marrow we call 'squash' (the yellow one or zuchinni (the long green one).
One of my favourite sandwiches is roasted vegetables on a turkish roll. The more nightshade vegetables, the better.
God I'm bored with those... But I don't like vegetables in a sandwich, or hummus, and falafel for that matter. I've tried once to toast a slice of basic tofu with some nutritional yeast. it was almost good... any ideas how to improve? should I maybe fry the tofu with some soy? that's sounds weird in a sandwich

You could try grilling the tofu in thin slices until it's slightly crisp on the outside, then you could add some chutney or mustard to the sandwich.
It's better if the tofu is marinated, smoked or otherwise flavoured as it's rather bland on its own. If you can't get those varieties you could marinate it yourself for a couple of hours, for example in a mixture of sherry or lemon juice, garlic, ginger and soy sauce.
