You can make so called "vegan bacon" with it... there is a recipe for it on http://vegweb.com/recipes/subs/bacon1.shtml

Cedarblue, that "bacon" recipe is the only time I ever use liquid smoke, presently. And those tofu strips make killer BLT's - my husband and step children love them. They (the tofu strips) cook faster if you press all the water out first.

Some people like to make veggie spreads, dips, baked beans, split pea soup with liquid smoke or baba ganoush

I've also seen recipes such as the ones ConciousCuisine mentions. I guess any recipe where you want a smoky, grilled-tasting addition. Or any "traditional" (read carnivore) recipes that would use smoked ham, etc. Just remember, a little goes a long way!

You could mix it with bbq sauce and put it on potatoes, like bbq chips

I made a vegan ham for Easter this year. My boyfriend at the time wanted it because his family used to have ham for Easter, and he was vegetarian (or so he said; come to find out, he wasn't) and wanted to carry on the tradition. It was okay but tasted too much like dead pig () for my liking to make it again. It also took about 3 hours to make. I believe the recipe was by Bryanna Clark Grogan.

    Question Liquid Smoke

Okay, I now have enough recipes to warrant buying a bottle of this but I can't find it anywhere. Apparently Sainsburys sell it in the summer in their BBQ section but I don't want to wait that long. Has anyone else managed to locate any?

I have found it on several online shops, but the postage is around £6, alot to pay for one bottle. If I can't find it on the high street I will possibly order it from this site http://www.skyco.uk.com/aboutus.asp. So to all you Americans out there, Are there any other vegan products on this site you like? Seeing as I'm going to be paying for the postage anyway I thought this may be a chance to try something different.

Also has anyone it ordered from any other online shops?

Looks cheaper than skyco. I looked for some a while back but didn't get any in the end as I read that it was supposed to be bad for you somehow.

You're right. I don't. It never occured to me that it might not be vegan. Mental note - Must remember to screw my head on properly in the morning . I've now emailed both Figaro and Stubbs to hopefully find out.

    Thanks Mr Flibble

I looked it up at the brand's own website. They say it is.

The food network showed how to make it once. A bit too labor intensive for me. Basically they built a device to trap and cool the smoke. When it cooled it condensed and not so voila...liquid smoke.

I don't actually know what Jerky is. What is it normally served with?

The recipe looks good though. I will be making a completely new food with a completely new ingredient! I'm looking forward to it
