Hello Tricia:
I live near London (dh + dd+ cats & dog) in the countryside. We're vegetarians although not vegans or planning to be. Frankly I wish I knew! We moved here from K-W altough we're originally from T.O. DH works in London now & we liked the area. I do know there's a natural food co-op in London which carries vegetarian/vegan foods, called the London Food Coop at 621 Princess Ave. They
've a website (519-679-0570), can't say if it's really good, we haven't been there yet, we shop mostly nearby or in Stratford. Still, I will one of this days start to get to know London better (we haven't been here long) so if you're still here I can let you know if I discover anything. Hope you'll do the same!

oki doki, here's what i found:
London-934 Dundas St E-The East & West African Restaurant (not purely veg, but with veg options)...it says at least 3 veg dishes, and one veg special each day.
&
268 Piccadilly-Grains Beans and Things (this is a natural food store)
&
621 Princess Ave-London Co-op Store (organic produce)
&
1016 Oxford-Lyn-Dys Health Food (organic produce)
**Doesn't look like London has as much as K-W, but the site I took this from shows Toronto area and the rest of Ontario

Hi Tricia: I just discovered this website. I've occasionally met a vegetarian or two in London, but not a vegan. I hope you move here. It would be nice have another one of us in the vicinity.
Last year, I rented a room to a student who wasn't a vegetarian. It turned out to be a lot better than it could have been. Thinking back on it now, I'm awfully glad that he didn't prepare or cook slabs of meat. He only opened cans of things and that I could handle.
I'm 51 and have been a vegetarian since 1975. There are definitely very few vegetarians or vegans in my age group, but it's nice to see the younger generation embracing it in much larger numbers.
There used to be a great vegetarian-only restaurant in south London by the name of Ching Sum. It was run by a Korean family, but it closed down a few months ago. I'm hoping they reopen it, but no luck so far.
Regards.
Craig

Hello,
Just found this forum as well while searching for vegan-friendly restaurants in London. (No luck with that quest yet - any help would be appreciated).
I don't live in London but visit every once in a while. My wife and I live in K-W. For the most part, vegan-friendly restaurants are hard to find anywhere outside the core of the GTA.
Many say they can accomodate vegans by modifying vegetarian options, but they often have a hard time understanding what no animal ingredients really involves.
Cheers

Hi,
I have also just come across this site, as similarly looking for veggie restaurants in the london area. We have recently emigrated from the U.K. and living not far from London. Been here 6 months now, with the animals in tow. I don't usually post on veggie issues, as although i've been a vegetarian since i was 10, and i'm now 43, i sometimes find some peoples views extremist. This i have found often alienates people who are meat eating, yet caring individuals. Problem is i'm a realist. If animals have to be culled and they are always going to be, then i would much rather it be done in a manner that is respectful as to their being sentient beings. Don't get me wrong, i would much rather no animal ever be culled for their flesh, or their fur. In the U.K. animal lobbyists try to stop fox hunting by laming the hunt horses. Where is the sense in it? Fox hunting is wrong and barbaric, but it is'nt the horses fault. I guess i'm hoping canadian veggies have more sense. In the short time i have been here, i have acquired a flock of chickens, and three pot bellied pigs all destined for the table. I know i can't save the world, but i can help a few animals along the way, and in my minds eye, if everybody, could just help a little, there would be far less animal suffering. The world would be a much better place for it. Then again, problem is often people just arn't nice to each other either. It's all a matter of respect, and education. Love and light.
Julie.

I've been vegetarian for just five months now. Well actually not vegetarian--a raw foodist -- would probably best describe my diet -- I consume primarily raw food - fruits and vegetables. Wow!! What an improvement in my health. I had a number of chronic conditions-- which I won't go in to -- which have disappeared. I want to shout it from the mountain top that this is the diet to heal life's diseases but I know that I am an extremist and that few would listen.
Check out the website for The Living Centre -- www.thelivingcentre.com Just outside of Lambeth. They hold raw food dinners throughout the sunnier season.
Another location to check out is Maggie's Restaurant 292 Wellington Street St. Thomas 519-633-5160 - - they had a great vegetarian menu available on the net a while ago although I can't find it now -- they're opening a second location in London at 145 King Street 519-679-6244 -- should be open around the 6th of February. --- Hope this helps ---

I'm vegan and live in London, I'm 15 and have been Vegan for like 2 years, I know about 4 other vegan people my age, and lots of vegitarians too. One good place to go in London is the Market. they have a Falafel place and the "New Delhi Deli" it's really small but they have lots of different vegan Indian food. you can also find vegan chocolate there to YUMS!

I'm a UWO journalism student working on a freelance documentary on vegetarianism.
I've been hearing from dieticians that some young people are now using vegetarianism as a way of disguising severe dieting. These poorly planned vegetarian diets often result in young people developing severe anemia, osteopenia and various eating disorders.
Do you know anyone who fits this profile, a young person who has become ill as a result of a poorly planned vegetarian diet? It would be really interesting for me to talk to someone like that.

Luke,
I want to know more about why someone like you decides to become a vegan. I'm working on a project at UWO, and would love to know more.

Hi,
Is it more interesting to find someone who has become ill due to an poor vegetarian diet than someone who has become ill due to an improper poor based diet?
Is it more interesting to speak with a person who become ill due to a poor veg diet than someone ho get well due to changing to a veg diet?
The society is full of habits, commercials and pressure towards eating animal products. Finally people are waking up to the fact that animal diet causes a lot of suffering and illness. This makes me curious about why someone want to document the (few) that possibly suffer from a bad veg diet than all those who suffer from a animal based diet........
You might be a hardcore vegan and want to prove that the cases you mention are close to non-existent – what do I know. But I'm a curious guy!
