People once thought my mother is a nut, but I once thought a nut was my mother! :D
Yes, it's true. Read the ingredients!

Also, watch out for hydrogenated oils, as some are used in Tofutti products.

Very useful url, thank you Artichoke.

Thanks from em, tto, Artichoke. That's Tofutti finished for me, particualry in view of what comes further down the FAQ:
"Does Tofutti use sugar that has been refined with animal bone char?
Most of our frozen dessert products use cane sugar. We assume that the sugar is refined with animal bone char since this is a fairly common procedure in the sugar refining industry. Please keep in mind that all sugar refining in this country is done by a handful of companies, who establish their own procedures for refining sugar. It is our understanding that if this process is used in bleaching the sugar, the bone char is actually extracted at the end of the procedure and no bone char remains within the finished sugar product. Our products are certified kosher parve, which means no animal parts could remain in the sugar. Also, I would like to bring to your attention that not all of our products use cane sugar. We also use corn syrup sweeteners and NutraSweet. We also have two stick novelties, Totally Fudge Pops and chocolate coated Marry Me Bars, which are sweetened with organic sugar."
Cheers
Michael
Is the best thing ever.
I bought it on Tuesday and now it's half gone. *licks lips*
I bought it a few times but it's so darn expensive, I always only used a little bit. But this time my daddy bought it for me and I'm eating it like crazy.
So yummy with pretzels.

I love Tofutti cream cheese! It's so good. I definitely agree.
P.S. I'll have to try it on pretzels.
It's also good a for sandwich spread.
sometimes I stir it into pasta
i bought this cream cheese from hollan an barrett and haven't had it yet because i don't know what to do with it- any ideas?
Add some crushed garlic, oregano and black pepper and then have it with pitta bread. Yummy
Paste it on your sammichyum
or on your bagel
mix it in your pasta sauce to make it creamy
flavour it up and dip your crackers in it
put it on yer taters or your steamed veggies
have it on toast with yer favourite other toppings
Antony cream of the toffuti
The Garlic Tofutti is very good in sandwiches with some fresh salad. Mmmmm.
I've given people Toffutti before and they've not even realised it's not "proper" cream cheese.
You can use the original flavour like mascarpone in cold dessert recipes.

I knew you'd have some good recipesGloomCookie
I wonder if you could make cherry cheese strudel with that?
MMMmmmm
There's only one way to find out...abrennan

I'm drooling
Years ago I used to go to a greek deli and they sold big slabs of it. Whenever I came in they would get it out. It was very nice. I don't think I'll make any though as it need sugar and I'm not having any.
I havnt yet found Tofutti much in Adelaide, but i do have Kingland Soy cream-cheese. Scrumptious didily-umptious.
There almost the same. Tofutti is a little bit sweeter. I've got some of both in the fridge.happycow
I love Toffutti cream cheese. Yum yum. I just put it on crackers with yeast extract and some soya cheese on top just incase its not cheesy enough
The pasta thing sounds devine. A little bit of cream cheese, little bit of sour cream....sounds almost like alfredo.
Toffutti's Sour Supreme is yum-num too. It tastes like the full-fat, homemade yogurt my mom makes more than sour cream, without the soy taste. So yummy. Delicious with cucumbers and mint.
If you can get vegan wonton or "eggroll" wrappers, make cream cheese filled sweet or savory snacks!
If you can get puff pastry or phyllo dough, make sweet or savory baked treats!
Make brownines and mix in softened cream cheese!
(Oh, I am SUCH a foodie! I could just make delicious treats all day!)
I can't get vegan eggroll wraps.
I never bothered to check for the phyllo but I'm sure the supermarket has it.
Doesn't tofutti stuff have a lot of hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup in it

Yes they do.
Do I care?
No.
hmmmm, maybe.vaderesque
But, vaderesque, your missing the point.
The point is, there is a really yummy cream cheese thingy called tofutti and it its yum.
Nuff said
Hydronated, smydronated
If I'm going to live my life worrying about every single teeny trans fat gram and every single sugar molecule, well, no point in living.
I agree that avoiding animal products is MUCH more important than avoiding hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup, but I'd rather be able to do both. I have found some ice cream sandwiches and fake sour cream (made from rice) that allows me to, but I haven't researched fake cream cheese. I'm not a crazy health nut or anything because I still eat my vegan chocolate and the like

Hey, vegan chocolate has been proven to be the healthiest form and eating that still qualifies you as a "health nut" if you like the title
Personally, I never eat hydrogenated oils or allow my family to do so.
Well, I try not to eat hydrogenated oils but I do admit that some stuff I buy has it as I can't find alternatives w/o animal products in place of the hydrogenated oil. But I agree that chocolate has some health benefits...of course I want to believe that

Chocolate Cherry Strudel is exactly what I have in mind when I think of sweet Phyllo and Puff Pastry
It is very good on a bagel with sprouts, cucumber slices and a tomato.

At my grocery store, there is now a new tofutti cream cheese. NO TRANS FATS!! It comes in a yellow container. I was so happy to see it!

I love the non-hydrogenated one!! It's been around for a while now, but it's really hard to find. I've only ever seen it in a health food store in Hawaii, and at another one in Ottawa. But other than that, it seems to be pretty rare.

I haven't been able to find that here. Does it taste the same?
Peace, love, and happiness.
Yep, but it seems a bit softer than the regular one. I'm afraid to try it in a cheesecake recipe in case it comes out too soft. But the flavour is excellent, and I like it softer for easier bagel spreading

Can you follow a standard cheesecake recipe to make cheesecake with toffuti? I had some at a veggie restaurant in Manchester but forgot to ask! It was delicious!
I found this recipe at: http://bakingsheet.blogspot.com/2005/09/imbb-19-i-cant-believe-its-vegan.html
Gonna have a try at making it hopefully this easter weekend - looks yummy! If you try it first, let me know how it goes...
(Vegan) Lemon Cheesecake
1-14 oz package firm silken tofu
1-8 oz package Better than Cream Cheese
2/3 cup sugar
¼ cup lemon juice
½ tsp almond extract
2 tbsp cornstarch
1-9 inch pie crust
Preheat oven to 350F.
Place silken tofu and vegan cream cheese in the food processor. Process for 1 minute, then add sugar. Process until smooth and no sugar granules remain, 3-5 minutes.
In a small bowl, combine lemon juice and almond extract. Whisk in cornstarch. Pour mixture into the food processor and process until very smooth. Pour into prepared crust and bake for 45 minutes.
Allow to cool at room temperature for 2 hours, then refrigerate overnight.
Serves 10
I guess you could experiment with different flavours, e.g. melted chocolate or strawberries instead of the lemon... If making your own pie crust, someone recommended to me mixing together oats, ginger, walnuts, maple syrup and a little melted vegan margarine.

Here's another Tofutti recipe for cherry cheesecake. I've made it plenty of times, and even brought it to a vegan potluck where I was nearly accused of bringing a non-vegan item because it tasted so close to real cheesecake!

I had a vegan cheese cake made for me once with crushed ginger biscuits at the base - I think the Sainsburys ginger snaps are vegan or the organic ones. I'll enjoy trying both of these!
Looks like cheesecake's back on the menu Thought I was going to have to wait until I found some creamy sheese. Mmmm ginger biscuits would be really nice with a lemon cheesecake.
I made a cheesecake without cream cheese, a baked silken tofu one.
It was muchly yummy
Cherry doesn't like mine that doesn't have cream cheese in, I haven't made it in over a year

Then make one and send it to me! :P
I used Dove's Farm Digestives they were fab
I've just tried the lemon cheesecake recipe for the first time today - it was a hit with the family Really quick and easy to make too.

I can't find Tofutti anymore The two health food stores I visit most often never have it in. Next week I'll have a look in Holland & Barrett because I could have sworn I saw it in there once.
