    Red face replacing all purpose flour with whole wheat flour?

    i like to make my bf treats for his lunches for work, because theyre cheaper when theyre homemade.

    i usually always make him muffins, but he wants something different. i used to make him churros (theyre mexican. theyre little doughy sticks that are deep fried and sprinkled w/ cinnamon and sugar and u dip it in chocolate sauce. its like everything you could possibly eat thats unhealthy LOL.) but i only have whole wheat flour. the recipe calls for all purpose flour. could i use whole wheat in its place?

    I wouldn't use all whole-wheat, but you could get away with a third or half.

    I had one, a long time ago.

    I have also had similar deep fried bread goodness. Mmmmm brown sugar is heaven on fried bread. My mom also used to make this savory deep fried bread, you eat it salted with sliced tomatoes and cucumbers.

    Using whole wheat instead can affect the cooking times, the amount it will rise and the amount of wet ingrediants you use. As said previously you can get away with using a mixture, personally I wouldn't use more than a 20-30%.

    Changes the texture too much.

    I love whole-wheat; don't get me wrong.

    I made pretzels one time with a third whole-wheat flour. They were awesome! So next time I tried two-thirds whole-wheat flour. They were tough and chewy and not as fluffy as with more unbleached white flour added.

    thanks everyone.

    well i tried it with just whole wheat, as thats what we had. and bf really liked them so i guess it worked out fine
