That's it. I'm posting on here so i HAVE to eat healthy today. Mwah ah ah..
It's only 7:30 am here.. so i've got a while to go.

B: 1 organic banana sliced and coated with ground flaxseed. mm

D: steamed brocolli & cauliflower, 1 small baked yam w/ the skin, & about a quarter of an orange bell pepper and the same amt of a yellow one.. all on a big bed of baby spinach.

I know i know, no protein. I'm low on groceries and don't really have anything other than the fruits and veggies.. so they'll have to do. the salad was good though.. really good. I'll probably have some tea later if i decide to take a bath.

Wildflower - what is "the ring"? I've never heard of it.
    NuvaRing Site

It is called NuvaRing, and is fairly new here so I am not sure if it is approved in Canada. It is a silicone ring that you insert into your vagina and push up to sit under your cervix. The ring is kept in for 3 weeks and emits hormones simillar to that of the pill. The third week you take it out, and are off a week for your period (simillar to the week off the pill) (sorry, I know this is a food thread so i hope noone gets grossed out ).

I haven't used it personally, but know 2 people who do and really like it. The hormones are supposed to be lower than the patch or pill because of the way it is designed.

HA! Yes, I think that a silicone synthetic hormone vaginal insert is pretty far-off from 'healthy' or 'healthy eating', HA!

    Breakfast 1 at 7am:
    2 pieces of French toast
Cup of coffee with soy milk

    Breakfast 2 at 10am:
Bowl of iron-fortified cereal with soy milk

    Lunch:
Tofu scramble (onions, greeen peppers, red peppers, Italian eggplant, medium tofu, lots of spices+seasonings like nutritional yeast, basil, oregano, dill, cumin, black pepper, salt, soy sauce) eaten with pita bread, ketchup, and salsa

    Supper:
Potatoes, kale, and onions with lemon juice
    "Buttered" bread
    Cup of apple juice

I don't know what else for today. I feel like something sweet.

    EDIT:
I had an organic granny smith aple. They are much sweeter than the non-organic kind. I was slightly disapointed, I like my sour apples.
    Another edit!

Evening snacks: (not at the same time--about an hour apart)
    Cup of black tea
Quick Salad made with organic greens, red pepper, tomato, white navy beans (yum!), flax oil, olive oil, spices, roasted seasme seeds
    Peace, love, and happiness.

    Breakfast:
Cup of coffee with soy milk
A few bites of oatmeal with raisins but it was gross today so I couldn't finish it

    Morning snack:
Seasme seed bagel with natural peanut butter and jam

    Lunch:
Salad with mixed baby greens, tomatoes, carrots, cauliflower, white beans, and a dressing made from tahini and lemon juice

    Supper:
Package of instant rice noodle soup (garlic flavoured)--next time I'm adding grated ginger for extra zing and some marinated tofu cubes for substance

    Dessert:
Cup of Irish Cream flavoured coffee with soy milk

    Evening snacks--not all at once:
Bite of a sharon fruit/persimmon but it was too sweet ( very odd for Tigerlily The Sweet Addict!)

2 pieces of toasted Ezekiel bread with Earth Balance and jam

    Tomato soup with crackers

fruit salad (banana, 2 kiwi fruit, mango, pineapple)
    soya yogurt
big salad with cannellini beans thrown in
loads of carrots (lol, I feel like a rabbit munching them, but I love them)
    freshly baked wholewheat apple muffin
quinoa, roasted squash, cauliflower, yeast flakes
    orange

CC, do you think I consume enough protein? I know that our requirements are widely over-estimated, and I also know that you can get sufficient protein from wholegrains and veg, which is often overlooked. But apart from that I don't seek to consume that much protein. I don't eat soya products very often, as I'm just not a friend of tofu. I try to include pulses regularly, which I love, but I'm still wondering whether it's enough?

Tell me the amounts you eat (measurements) and I can estimate for you. It isn't necessary to eat soy to get adequate protein (note this happens to be the *only* day I myself have not posted measurements for my day I guess I'll remedy that ).

okay I have to convert grams to ounces/cups (I dislike math and it's the only thing I am really lazy about ). What else did you eat? I need to know in order to calculate, but that looks like about 35 grams of protein. How tall are you and how much do you weigh? You likely need 20 or so grams more and probably got some of that from your other foods eaten.

The fruit is negligeable in terms of protein I guess, so that leaves a wholewheat muffin, about 1kg of carrots (lol), and about 500g of veg in the evening I guess.
I'm 5.10ft and about 9st. (that's the only thing I know in "your" system, apart from that I was brought up using the metric one)

you can have Google do the conversions for you!
just type "X oz in grams", "Y metres in yards" or whatever you want to calculate in the search field (no quotation marks).

Thanks, ukahela That's my usual MO...I avoid dealing with math as much as possible and just have it done by online calculators for me because I am really lazy when it comes to math

Applepie, you need a *lot* more calories and protein! You are likely quite underweight too...do you exercise? You need to eat twice as much as you do, it seems

It seems a lot to me what I'm eating already! I'd better have some more then. I thought that I might have been reducing my food intake unconsciously as an attempt to counter stress, but I don't want to fall back into the ED trap.
As far as exercise is concerned, I'm a member of my uni's cross country team. Thanks for your advice, CC, I'll better have a good think about what I eat!

Seiten is the gluten of wheat. You can get instant gluten to make seiten which is a lot easier than washing flour to make seiten. Also it is really easy to mix spices and flavorings with the instant to make it. Just don't skip boiling it.

Below is a simple recipe from VegWeb

    Quick & Easy Homemade Gluten

    Ingredients (use vegan versions):
    • 1 cup gluten flour
    • 1 cup water

    Directions:

Stir gluten flour & water together, adding more water if necessary. You want a nice thick dough. Knead to get the gluten elastic and squeeze out the excess water. (I do this right in the bowl I mixed it in, or a colander would work to drain off the water.) Break in small (1") pieces and simmer in a vegetable broth at least 1/2 hour. Note: The longer you knead and simmer the gluten, the tougher it will become, so you can pick your own texture. This recipe is a lot simpler than the "old-fashioned" way!
Serves: ? Preparation time: about 1 hour

Yes, I buy my seiten, it is White Wave brand. It is good cooked in bbq sauce with white onions, or marinated in Newmans Own Itallian dressing and grilled on skewers with veggies.

Sometimes i use the leftover grilled seiten/veggies for pizza.

I make my seitan differently than the recipe posted and cook it in a flavorful broth, but this is one recipe I'm keeping to myself until the book comes out

Yam noodles are usually like the ones pictured here http://www.foodsubs.com/NoodlesAsianOther.html but I make yam "noodles" from raw spiralized (often marinated and dehydrated until soft) yams. They are wonderful!

Oh I thought maybe the noodles she made were home made. Like raw noodles? Shredded and washed? sigh....

I've made seiten from scratch several times also. I think everyone develops their own set of secret ingredients. I've gotten where I like to use the instant gluten though. It will be interesting to find out CC's version when her book comes out!

They aren't very tasty, not in an "Oh WOW! I must have more!' kind of way, IMO. They are good for you but so is broccoli and that's much cheaper Anyway, if you have a Chinese herbal shop around you can get them in bulk there and they are much cheaper (not organic though).

Hi! this is my first post I try to eat healthily, and thought that i kind of did, but seeing all your posts makes me think twice! Hopefully this thread and your help will encourage me to eat better.

Anyway, this is what i ate yesterday -

Breakfast - Wholegrain hoops with soy milk.
Lunch - Banana sandwich, apple and an orange.
Dinner - Pizza (Organic wholemeal base, topped with - tomato puree, half a red pepper, half an orange pepper, quarter of an onion, quarter of a courgette, 2 tablespoons of sweetcorn, 3 medium sized mushrooms and 5 cherry tomatoes).
Snack - Orange and Banana juice and an apple cookie.

Nope! It's also called Shirataki or konnyaku noodles - it comes in clear packages from the Asian section at your grocer. It's flourless and just made of yam flour - surprisingly it tastes nothing like yam! I love it but some people find it tastes a little too slimey as it's made up of mostly water. It's really yummy in broth based soups, or sometimes I boil it, then cook in a pan with a little garlic and mix with marinara sauce. I think I have a sensitivity to wheat so I sub pasta noodles with this. It's not *quite* the same to others but I don't mind.

I buy the yam noodles - also called konnyaku or Shirataki. It's delicious in soups! It tastes nothing like actual yams so if that's what you're hoping for, I think a homemade version like the one CC posted would be a great and yummy recipe.

For the dashi broth, you'll need dried kombu (seaweed) leaves. I boil them in water with some garlic for about 10 minutes or so. Then, let it simmer for another 10 minutes. Remove the kombu, and add anything to your liking - I like veggies and tofu.

Last night hubby and I didn't feel like going home straight after work so we decided to go out for supper. We ended up at a Chinese restaurant, not the healthiest choice, I know, but I think I made out ok:

Plain rice noodles mixed with cucumber, lettuce and minth leaves with spicy rice vinegar
    Fresh cut veggies
Plain dark soya noodles with soy sauce
    Vegetarian spring rolls
and, aaahhhh yummy sushi made with cucumber, tangerine and avocado.
Let thy food be thy medecine
