Doh, I should have put that. Turbinado is sugar that hasn't been processed or refined. So there is no bone char used to process it and if I'm not mistaken it's healthier than white sugar. I get mine out of the bulk bins at either Whole Foods or Wild Oats for about $1/pound. Here's a description of how it's made:

Turbinado Sugar is made by crushing the freshly-cut sugar cane to squeeze out the juice, rich in molasses, vitamins and minerals. The cane juice is evaporated and spun in a centrifuge, or turbine, to produce the large sparkling golden crystals. For this reason, this style of natural large sugar crystals is often referred to as Turbinado Sugar.

I'm glad you all like the recipe, I really hope my measurements are close. Basically just taste the chocolate/peanut butter sauce before you transfer it to a bowl and that will tell you if you need more of something.

    Here's my menu from yesterday.

    Breakfast
    Smoothie:
    1/2 cup frozen peaches
    1/2 cup fresh mango
    1 cup rice milk

    Lunch
    Pitas:
    1 whole wheat pita
2 tbsp sundried tomato & basil hummus
    1/2 cup radish sprouts
    1 no bake oatmeal cookie

    Snack:
    A chocolate brownie cliff bar

    Dinner:
    Salad:
    1 cup spinach
    1 tomato
    2 tbsp flax oil dressing
    1 herb roasted potato
    1/2 cup pinto beans
    1/2 cup brown rice

    Snack
Pitas (had them again since I had been craving them for weeks)
    1 whole wheat pita
    2 tbsp hummus
    1/2 cup radish sprouts
    handful of pumpkin seeds

    Which, according to fitday, adds up to be 1985 calories, 65 g fat, 6 g saturated fat, 43 g fiber, 318 g carbs, 50 g protein

I haven't eaten all my meals yet today, but I wanted to post now because I'm excited about what I'm eating today:

Breakfast: organic sliced fruit dipped in agave nectar (banana, mango, apple)

    Snack: fresh-squeezed organic orange juice

    Lunch:
bowl of sliced carrots, cucumber and cauliflower with raw olive oil and lemon juice on top
3 medjool dates with raw almond butter inside
    fresh squeezed organic grapefruit juice
maybe a green smoothie if i'm still hungry (fresh-squeezed orange juice, some romaine lettuce leaves, a banana and a couple strawberries)

Snack: Larabar (not sure which kind yet...)

Supper: raw nut loaf with tahini sauce on top, and more sliced carrots, cucumber and cauliflower on the side, with CC's raw goddess dressing on top.

Yoggy, sounds delish! For how long are you going raw?

I'd like to do 2 raw days again, but I'll have to plan them out much better. Last time I definitely didn't get enough protein, I was STARVING the entire time, and felt very, very sick (which could be a good thing, if my body was getting rid of toxins, but I'm not sure if that was the case)...

    An herb roasted potato
An ear of fresh corn on the cob
    An Orange

    Snack
    1 yellow carrot
    1/2 cup Pistachio nuts
An Orange (the only fruit I have in the house right now, I need to get more)

    Dinner
1/2 cup pintos (cooked in the slow cooker all day

Blargh, im so stuffed right now!

Breakfast - One half grain english muffin with vegan margarine, some apple sauce and a banada. One glass water, one glass chocolate soy milk.

Walked home from Dentist office (30 minutes)

    Drank one cup of water.

Lunch - One Yves veggie burger, on whole wheat toast, with lettuce, onion and pickle. One salad with ice berg lettuce, red cabbage, asparagus, zuchinni, garlic croutons, salad topper (fake bacon bits, sun flower seeds, peanuts, etc.). Also, one nice fat cob of corn, with a bit of margarine spread around it, and some black pepper. Also, one glass water, one glass apple juice, and my vitamin and iron pills. (Stuffed!)

Supper - Im not really sure, thinking veggie soup and a nice veggie wrap.

I am detoxing for the next week, as I have been sick constantly all year, and I am sick of being sick. I started today:
    - freshly squeezed juice: pineapple, grapefruit, lime & orange
    - salad: mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red capsicum, and sliced avocado dressed in olive oil & lime juice
    - handful of raw macadamia nuts
    - apple
    - steamed & mashed sweet potato & lightly steamed broccoli

Poor you! Don't feel bad though; it definately wasn't your fault. I think everyone eats something occassionally without knowing that there is an animal product of some kind in it. I was eating monodiglicerides in bread without knowing that monodiglicerides are animal products, and that was a few times a week!

Healthy enough? I eat a lot of snacks. I get hungry every 1-2 hours...does that mean I have a fast metabolism??

    * Means organic, trying to get more organic foods in. Sadly, it's not even near all organic. It's just so expensive! Hopefully it will be cheaper in Toronto (more demand).

    Breakfast
    1 buckwheat waffle* with syrup
1 piece of sprouted grain toast* with fruit spread (naturally lower in sugar than jam)
    Cup of tea

    Lunch
Crispy fried tofu* over rice with soy sauce and plum sauce

Afternoon snacks, not all at once
Salad: baby greens*, tomato, red pepper, green onion, Italian dressing
    Bowl of fruit salad
A couple of squares of dark chocolate*
    Half a coconut bar*
    Bowl of dry cereal

    Supper
Veggie burger* (well, partially organic) with mustard
    Cup of soup

Evening snacks, not all at once
    Cup of tea
And...more food which I haven't figured out yet. I feel like a baked potato with vegan sour cream!
    Peace, love, and happiness.

Maybe it's a fast metabolism. Someone told me that once, because I'm like that too. I have heard that protein and fat make you full for longer, so maybe eating some at every meal/snack would help.

Tigerlilly - it also means you could be slightly hypoglycemic. I was told that is why i get hungry so often. My body tells me I need to keep my blood sugar up.

What's hypoglycemic? Is it like diabetes? I got a lot of tests done for diabtes last month (blood work and urine) and my sugar levels were a-okay.

this is a 'what did you eat today' thread for those who eat /try hard to eat a balanced healthy diet everyday...
For breakfast I had a banana, walnuts, cereal and a class of soy milk. For lunch I'm trying the Tofurky that I've read a lot of good reviews. I have the Tofurky Italian Sausage and eating it with some hummus and pita bread. I've been on a hummus kick all week.

lol. but sometimes it gets a little boring! i was recently diagnosed with celiac disease so it's next to impossible for me to get enough fiber unless i eat fruits/veggies by the truck loads! i would give anything for an almond butter/strawberry jam sandwich right now!

    today's eats:

    strawberry/peach smoothie with ground flax
    several fresh strawberries

    salad with beans again

just had fresh watermelon and pineapple . our neighbors just returned from Maui and brought back boxes of fruits!

i'm not sure about dinner yet but it's probably a stir-fry or leftover homemade fried rice

Awwww that's a shame Urbanvegan. Do you think that you might've cooked it a little too long. Some times those sausages can go quite tough if they're overcooked.

I love to slice up the Italian Sausage and make it into part of a pasta sauce. Mmmmmm Yum!

People with Celiac's disease cannot eat gluten because their bodies cannot process it properly. Wheat has gluten, and that's why they can't eat it...

    You need to cook it!

Give it another go...it is actually quite soft when cooked. I agree with Roxy, slice it and sautee it with some olive oil and then add to a pasta sauce. It is also very soft microwaved. I grill it sometimes, and it gets soft that way, but a little more crunchy on the outside.

    Breakfast: Tofu scramble burrito
crumbled firm tofu, mushrooms, onion, bell pepper, and an orange tomato seasoned with turmeric, cumin & soy sauce on a tortilla with salsa

    Snack: a golden delicious apple

    Lunch:
    a raw tomato, a raw carrot, a tortilla & 1/4 cantaloupe

    Dinner:
    Anasazi beans
    seasoned brown rice
veggie packs (mushroom, zucchini, potato, onion & carrot drizzled with Italian dressing, baked in an aluminum foil pack to keep all of the moisture and flavor in)
    & the other 1/4 cantaloupe

Everything other than the tomato and cantaloupe is organic. I bought the tomatos and cantaloupe from a little home grown stand.

Yesterday I visited old family friends where we had a summer house in the mountains, and they had so much awesome vegan food for me, most of it home-grown, home-picked, and home-cooked So, so delicious!

    Breakfast:
2 slices whole grain bread with a tomato-red pepper spread
    bowl of cherries
    a little orange juice

    Snacks:
    5-6 apricots
    cherries
    strawberries
    peanuts
a bottle of sour cherry juice

Lunch (eaten over a couple of hours):
bowl of salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, onion, garlic clove, fresh cilantro-like green, oil, and salt)
    1 slice of bread
    3 baked marinated red peppers
a bowl of home-cooked vegetable stew (potatoes and a bunch of other vegetables...someone else had cooked it, so I'm not sure what exactly)
    2 peaches
    2 apricots
    several slices melon
    strawberries
    cherries
    a glass of apricot juice
    a glass of white wine

    Snack:
    a couple of apricots
    a few strawberries

    Dinner:
salad (spinach, tomato, cucumber, green onion, fresh dill, and cilantro-like green) with oil, vinegar, and a little salt
    a handful of chocolate chips
