Hey CC, do you by chance have any tips for increasing water intake? I'm sure it's easier to drink lots in California, but since it's freeeeeezing here, I have to literally force myself to drink more than a litre a day.. How can i start downing a GALLON a day?!?!???

I generally drink 1 to 2 glasses of water (each glass = 1.5 cups) an hour to get up to a gallon a day. I'm not quite there, but having a schedule like that helps to remind me.

I think my diet today is actually worthy of this thread!

Breakfast: herb bagel with non-hydrogenated Tofutti cream cheese
Morning snack: an entire sliced cucumber and a sliced carrot (the carrot was as big as the cucumber ) and I managed it without any dips or dressings! Small apple/grape juice drinking box
Lunch: minestrone soup with 2 small slices of stone ground sourdough bread with earthbalance. A chopped mango, and an apple.
Supper: will be 2 cups cooked broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots with a little olive oil drizzled on, a few potato wedges, and another sliced cucumber. If I'm still hungry I'll cook up some baked beans to go with it.

Plus it's only 11:00 a.m. and I'm already on my fifth glass of water

You may not need a gallon, depending on your toxin, sodium, caffeine intake and your height, weight and activity level. A gallon is good for me

That being said, drinking a large glass immediately upon arising will help as will drinking before bed (your body cleans itself as you sleep and adequate hydration ensures it doesn't labor needlessly). Whenever it's 30 minutes before or 1-2 hours after eating, drink a large glass of water (room temperature or warmed, *not* cold!). You'll be up to your appropriate level in no time

I've been told to drink ice cold by some and lukewarm by others. I guess it all depends on who is giving the advice?

Sometimes I have to squeeze a little lemon or lime in it to make it more appealing.

I always drink room temperature water wich most would probably consider luke-warm.

I can't drink cold things as they are too cold! It's not appealing to me, and it makes me cold. I am a no-ice kinda person and like things cool room temp.

Sometimes I drink hot (warm) water but I found it makes my calves swell...it happens every time. Any ideas on that one CC?

I've been feeling quite depressed lately and as a result, I haven't been eating very healthy. For supper today, I had a chocolate bar (vegan of course) with coffee! Ooof, I feel so sick. I have been eating very SAD-like (Standard American Diet), except vegan (fried potatoes, chips, chocolate, lots of coffee, very little veggies, etc). I feel so sick right now and headachey.

We have so many veggies and fruits in our house but I can't bring myself to get out of bed, let alone cook.

*sigh* I need help. Also, I'm eating crap because I feel like crap...but these crappy foods are just making me feel worse. It's a vicious cycle.

Aw tigerlily i'm sorry to hear that you are feeling under the weather lately. I hope the sun starts to shine where you are soon.

I get into ruts like that where i can't bring myself to do anything.. especially eat healthy... maybe try starting the day with some fresh fruits or something really healthy to give yourself a feeling of really starting the day off great. I'm not sure if this makes sense but it sometimes works for me. Also, try thinking of how better you'll feel if you DO eat those healthy foods and not the junk food!

Hope you feel better soon, take care.

Thanks guys. I think for breakfast tomorrow I'm going to have oatmeal and banana slices, lunch will be kale, supper a veggie burger.

I think my depression might be related to my birth control pill. But if I get off the pill, my face will EXPLODE with (masculine) hair. Which will make me depressed also. I think I'm going to talk to my doctor about getting tested for PCOS, thyroid issues, etc, and see if I can switch pills.
    Peace, love, and happiness.

I had a similar problem when i was on the pill [i stopped a bit more than a year ago..]. I was really crabby.. like all the time. My mood swings were insane and i hated myself more than i do now! The pill is a little scary. Sometimes if you talk to them they will try to get you on one that has the least amount of side effects.

Yes, I'm on Alesse, which is marketed to teens and is suppose to be a low dosage. I'm wondering if there are other forms of hormonal therapy that aren't contraceptives...maybe it won't have that bad of side effects.

That's a good idea. Bandaids give me rashes (I think due to the latex or the adhesive), I hope the patch doesn't have latex or use the same adhesivs. I'll ask him about about my options. Maybe I should see a gyno? There's a woman gyno who always advertises around my school looking for new clients. She might have a different perspective than a male family/general doctor.

You may want to try the "ring" then. It is supposed to have the lowest level of hormones of any of the hormonal methods.

Yes, you should probably see a gyno since you seem to be having some problems they may be able to address better. But if you are happy with your GP, then I think you are fine.

But the thing is, I do need hormones though. I'm not on the pill for contraceptive AT ALL but only to regulate crazy periods and calm manly facial hair. If it's too low in hormons, it won't work.

    2 pieces of French toast
Cup of coffee with soy milk

    Breakfast 2 at 10am:
Bowl of iron-fortified cereal with soy milk

    Lunch:
Tofu scramble (onions, greeen peppers, red peppers, Italian eggplant, medium tofu, lots of spices+seasonings like nutritional yeast, basil, oregano, dill, cumin, black pepper, salt, soy sauce) eaten with pita bread, ketchup, and salsa

    Supper:
Potatoes, kale, and onions with lemon juice
    "Buttered" bread

I don't know what else for today. I feel like something sweet.

Strawberry and Tigerlily your days sound delicious.

    Today I had so far:

    Porridge with rice milk

    Marmite on toast

    Banana

Homemade vegetable casserole, didn't spill it on the floor of the car today

    2 satsumas

During the day loads of mineral water, red clover tea and ginko tea

    And I'm still hungry!

I keep meaning to pick up some vegemite, its habit from a child of picking up marmite, think the taste is more or less the same, will buy some next time I've finished this massive tub and let you know.
