I had a brilliant day , all helped by the gorgeous weather surroundign Bristol.
I took some pics of the 'weeman' , away from the vegan fayre but an interesting sight all the same. Did anybody else see it? It was made up of all old household appliances.
I didnt go to the party as had a long drive home and we had a young child with us aswell and it was unfair to keep her up , as it was we got back home at about 1am!!! Was worth the trip for sure though . Cant wait for next year lol.
we got back at about 8:30 yesterday, ate dinner, then crashed.
what a day!
it was really fun, and i'm bummed that we didn't get to the check in point at the appointed times. you probably could have heard us from a mile off, though-- i could not stop sneezing!!!!!!
xylia was feeling under the weather. she had her mmr jab on thursday, and she started getting a bit of a temperature from that. so, no shiny happy baby, more subdued and tired baby
we wound up leaving after we had lunch (yummy yummy yummy food from the kerala indian food booth inside the main entrance. mmmm.... dosas...)
our train didn't leave until six o'clock (was supposed to leave at 5:30, but then, that's train travel on the weekend, isn't it?).
anyway, we'll definatly be going next time! hopefully with less of a hay fever quotient and a perfectly healthy toddler!

I also got a note pad from Animals Asia, four bars of cocoa tree chocolate, some dog biscuits and a couple of books, and also had a massage too which was great.
did anyone else have one of those fantastic trifles??? oh yum!!!
it took us ages to find fresh and wild! of course, if we'd asked sooner, it wouldn't have taken so long, but hey, we were enjoying exploring the city

It was a greaty day. To those of you I met, it was lovely to meet you. To those of you I didn't... maybe next time. I might start going to the London meets now.
Did anyone go to the talk on alternatives to animal testing. It was a fantastic talk. I'll also enjoyed a couple of raw food talks, they certainly gave me something to think about.
Glad it went well - it was just too far away for me to get to. What was the best bit if anything??
Just got back a couple of hours ago, had a great time, spent loads of money, saw lots of things, sat in alot of traffic and I am now completely exhausted!
I can't wait for the next one.
Haven't stopped eating since we got home Just lurve Veggies Bakewell tart(cake) Yummy.
Did you all enjoy watching the Brazilian Carnival girls strutting their stuff?
And what about the Sikh Martial Art team? Excellent.
This was a bit unfortunate:
'Following todays vegan fair in Bristol, a female SARC campaigner was followed to her car by an unknown individual. In a gap of a few seconds, between her leaving the vehicle, and another campaigner approaching it, a window had been smashed, and nearly £1000 in cash (from donations and merchandise purchases) had been stolen from a concealed container within the car. The car was parked in the main car park, with many potential witnesses. Unfortunately it was clearly a profesional job, and no one saw or heard anything.
As well as the money, we now also need to pay for the repair of the broken window - the vehicle is used on a daily bases for rescue, demonstrations, stalls and many other vital activities.
As is the nature of grass roots campaigning, SARC has no pool of money, and any money we receieve is channeled directly into our campaigning work. All of the money from todays fair had already been earmarked for specific campaigns and rescue work. We have been left not only out of pocket, but also in debt.
It is not our nature to directly appeal for financial help, indeed, this is the first time we have, but we desperately need any help we can get to resolve our current situation. We hope that with your help we can turn this disgusting act into something positive.
Finally, if you bought anything from our stall by cheque, please cancel them, as these were also taken. Anyone with information about a black BMW vehicle in the car park at around 6pm, or who saw any other suspicious activity, please contact SARC ASAP.
If you think that you can assist us, Donations can be made via our website, or by post, and will be very gratefully received! Visit www.sarconline.co.uk to pay online, or send cheques made payable to SARC to PO Box 5668, Poole, Dorset, BH15 3ZR.
Many Thanks

We did spend most of the day in the pub, tbh, so apologies for all the people that didn't find us there
The rice cream was lovely, the dancing girls were fantastic, and all the lovely vegan people. It was great!

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
Yeah that's so unfairPob
i had a lovely day, the weather was beautiful and i really enjoyed helping out. It was wicked to meet some more of the lovely people from this forum
When i went last year <and the year b4> i didn't know anyone at all apart from a few people i know from around Bristol <not vegans tho> who had come along to see what it was like.
i cant help wondering what these people who were sitting near us in the pub were thinking as they tucked into what smelt like a rather meaty meal whilst we all chatted fervently about various vegan issues <giggles>
arrgh I kept forgetting all about meeting up you guys, I'm sorry!
It was a 3 hour drive either way but no major disasters this time, luckily!! I am SO knackered today though, especially since right after we got back, a quick shower and change, we had a family party to go to and we didn't get back home till 9.30pm (this was Sunday - we stayed in a cheap hotel in Almondsbury on the Sat night). And I had to wake up early this morning for a 9am dentist trip I soooo could do with a sleep in!!
You guys weren't kidding talking about it being hard to drive around Bristol!!! We had our route carefully planned, but there were all these diversions and no right turn bits and rubbish like that. In the end we were driving around, following signs for the industrial museum, got up to the lights after the bridge, having been past the fair... I wanted to get into the council carpark to the right, which was cheaper, instead of the NCP ahead, and so I was indicating right and waiting for the lights to change when I saw the STUPID no right turn sign THERE TOO!!! And so I just decided I'd had enough of this mucking around, it's already been half an hour of it, so I just went right anyway and a few yards down the road got into the carpark without any problem. It wasn't even a one way road so I have no idea why you weren't supposed to. Just to make life difficult for the motorist I suppose!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, back to the fayre...! I enjoyed it, but it was a bit of a crush. I was also feeling ill because I'd gotten up so early (5:15!) and had hardly anything to eat. After I got down the first section of the fayre I had to escape and go sit outside on the seats by the animal section, cause I just felt blergh. Hubby got me a hotdog and I had to start with just tearing little bits off the bread and then as my tummy stablised I could eat the sausage too and then felt better after that and a loo stop. Did anyone else use those porta potties?!! It's like a TARDIS!! lol
So unforunately I wasn't feeling my best, and I really hate crowds, but in the end I tried to be relaxed about it...
I didn't see any talks, because we just weren't organised enough for it. I did see a bit of the demo of that fellow who was the world champion of that fighting that looks like a cross between karate and ballet..! He was so cool. There was a lady in the audience when we went to sit down who looked miffed that we sat in front of her, but there weren't that many seats and she DID seat in the back row....!!
Since we found out we were a bit shorter or cash than we'd thought, I didn't really buy too much. I got loads of leaflets to read through, food off the tombolas, I bought two BWOC lipsticks from BBoheme stall (I heard the stall lady say that BWOC have gone out of business! ), one of those organic pizza mix things, a go vegan badge, a few different raffle entries, a cookbook, erm.... not sure what else. For food, we had two different juices while we were there, I also tried a wheatgrass early on while the shed was overdue in opening, I wonder if that would have helped me feel sick though because it was really strange tasting!! We also had the hot dog, we tried the plate of greek style dishes from the bloke who was selling the cookbooks on his still outside - neither of us ended up particularly liking it unfortunately. A little while later we went for the one from outside that had the samosas with the chana, which was quite nice, and we each had a rice cream cone, which was wonderful on such a hot day and was fun to relieve a childhood fun memory, vegan-style!
Speaking of ice cream - what was that woman in the Mr Whippy van doing there!! LOL do you think she just didn't know what veganism was, or was she hoping there might be veggies or omnies tagging along to buy her moo cones and coca colas...?!
We ended up finishing there by about 2pm, and wandered about a bit, was hoping to go see an imax (airconditioning, yay!), but we'd just missed the current showing, so we ended up going on the big red bus tour, which was really great, and it even dropped us off right outside the car park! excellent! I had sore feet, was glad to sit down, and love a good tour.
sorry, that was a bit long...!
He probably did alright off the veggies and omnis after the Rice Cream ran outJamie
