Default Create an e-annoyance, go to jail

All I have to say is: .

Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime.

It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.

In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a blog as long as you do it under your real name. Thank Congress for small favors, I guess.

It seems like the internet is becoming less and less free. I don't know what internet laws we have here in the UK but I'll bet they're pretty similar to the ones in the States.

    How does one define "annoyance"?

Also, why in the world is this law being supported by " Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act"....

In what way...is spam... comparable to violence against Women? o__O

I wouldn't worry, the UK police prove time and time again that they're more or less completely incompetant when it comes to anything to do with electronic enforcement.

It looks like the police are good at smashing child porn rings who communicate through the internet. Though I doubt they have the resources to bust people for simply saying stuff that might annoy someone.

I vote we bombard Bush with emails of an 'annoyance' nature!

Surely you're having a laugh right? The main arrests in this country to date have come from the UK being fed info from the FBI, about people who physically paid for child pornography using their credit cards. Hell, the UK gov hadn't even heard of usenet it would appear until 2002. There's nothing I'd like more than the uk police to get better at catching pedos on the internet, but it ain't happening.
