Default Essential Fatty Acid - should I take a supplement?

I just got started with these vegan deal and I've been reading about the importance of essential fatty acids and how vegans usually aren't getting enough of them. So...what's a busy college student to do? Are there a couple super foods I can eat (and afford) or should I take a supplement like a liquid I can mix into a smoothie? What has worked best for you guys?

There is borage oil, and evening primrose oil, besides flax oil. There are conjugated linoleic acids, but be careful of these, as they may be animal derived. Which EFAs are you concerned with?

Flax oil works, and so does ground flax seed (which is a little cheaper).

I bake the ground flax seed into waffles, and like to add the seed to smoothies also. You can really add it to anything.

Whole flax seed won't properly digest, so get the oil or ground seed.

I think that walnuts, hemp oils/butter, and lots of other vegan things contain ESAs too.

walnuts have omega3 but a not at all good ration omega3 to omega6. primrose oil is basically omega6 (at least that's what it says on the package i hvae). ground flax goes bad quickly, so get whole seeds and grind them yerself. if you don't have a grinder, get one of those small ones, it is a good investment (nuts are also good to grind, as that apparently makes nutrient absorption more efficient. i guess people don't chew enough usually, or sth). camelina, wild flax, is good too. and amaranth and quinoa - no great quantities, but nonetheless. rape seed oil should be good too.

Here is a borage flower - isn't it pretty?
They are very nice in salads or floating on top of chilled drinks.

Borage oil is full of GLA, or gamma linolenic acid, which is anti-inflammatory. Its an Omega 6, but still very important in the diet. You can also get GLA from blackcurrant oil and hemp oil.

Wow! - thanks for sharing - that flower is quite pretty.

This is a good way to get closer to our food & make that connection to earth. So I wonder what the flax plant looks like?

Five years ago, I visited Indonesia and saw the rice fields in the Bali rainforest mountains & wow - realized how awesome the origins of our food can be.
