    Default Vegan France

So if anyone want anything on France I can try and help!

No, vegan are really not admitted in France, but for vegetarian people it seems a little less difficult... I think Ile-de-France (so Paris of course) is the better place to find vegan products. But as for the mentalities... I think that's the same thing everywhere...

Yeah Amelie is such a marvellous film ! I love it too. ^^

    Hello !

I am french and I live in north east of France (very close to Germany and Switzerland). Sorry for my english but I haven't been practising for a long long time !!
Well I am vegan since 3 years and before I was vegetarian (since I was 20). What else... I am a very very happy breastfeeding mother : my daughter is 14 months old and I hope it will last as long as possible !

    Fruity

    Welcome

I dont often come on Vegan Forum but I am reallly pleased to at last meet some other French ppl. I study in Wales but my parents live in Paris and I lived a long time in Switz as well. Its not easy to be vegetarian in France or Switz but veganism is practially unheard of. Good luck to you.

A l'aide !!

    Thank you everybody !
Do you know where I could find relatively cheap vegan shoes in France ? They are very very expensive on the net !! And there is a lot of snow now and I only have not-waterproof trainers ! HELP !!

Translation ( perhaps not perfect, but i try, lol ) :
You re right Vora, the lack of understanding comes from everyrwhere, especially from people U don't expect for.
I m glad to be FINALLy able to talk with people who share the same lifestyle. ( same ideas too !!) as mine. ( I m enthusastistic to talk with U all Anglo saxons !!) ( I love the britsh culture and NZ too !!)
The atmosphere looks very cool and relaxed !!!

Ecoutez a Fruitbat!

    Hi, everybody,
My name's Bea, I'm a 33 y.o french vegan. After 12 years of vegetarisme, I 'm definitively vegan. i love cooking & make people around me discover new thrilling meals. But it's kinda a challenge to be vegan in my contry, contrary to Germany or in t he UK.

oh my french is so horrible sorry! (English, moved here a year ago but live in the sticks and work from home and so not much chance to practise French!)

sorry to resort to English there!

I have a cousin who lives in Sienne (rural part) of France and she said yesterday I would not survive there as a vegan. They had a veggie stay with them and they found that difficult, yet alone, vegan. Is she right as I dont fancy visiting them if that is so?. It would be a long way to travel from the UK with vegan supplies.

I really ought to get on with work today but it's more fun on this forum....I live in the sticks in France (just on the edge of the Vercours national park) and have been here for a year now so wanted to answer...it's been fine being vegan (except looks of non-comprehension and lots of why and what's the difference between vegan and vegetarian...)...you can't eat out really...and there's no veggie sausages or junk food (boo hoo) but you can get soya milk and soya yoghurt in supermarkets round here and even in our smallish local town there's a health food store...vegetables are way better than the UK, and there tinned and dry beans and all sorts like that....people are ususally cool when you explain it and if they're going to cook for you and it's good to suggest ratatouille if they're worried about what to cook...
croissant (ordinaire) can, allegedly, even be vegan....

i've even found vegan croissants occaisionally

I have a friend who recently spent some time in Paris. She is vegetarian and had a hard time find veg-friendly places to eat. She said she and her husband got VERY sick of eating vegetarian pizza!

We might have an opportunity to go to France next year as an aquaintace of my boyfriend has recently bought a house in the south of France, which she plans on renting as a holiday-home. I would be worried about getting vegan meals in a small town in France, if we were to go. I'm sure the house would have good cooking facilities though!

Hey, hello everybody. I'm Alizée from Paris

    I agree with TheFirstBus.

If you are living or visiting France, and you would like to eat-out, visit www.happycow.net for a list of vegan and vegetarian restaurants ( there are 15 in Paris!)

Also, do a Yellow Pages or Web search for organic stores near your hotel, hostel, or home... they always have vegan options, and organic is so yummy!

I think as well that it's not that difficult to live and eat as a vegan in France, especially in the Ile-de-France region (Paris and its surroundings).

But for vegan tourists it can be quite tough, you've got to know before where are the place to eat vegan food, most of the restaurants have vegetarian meals but rarely vegan meals... so for tourists, it's better to gather informations before. When you're not going in Paris, you should really try to find out vegetarian restaurants there, I have never found a vegan-friendly place outside Paris and its surroundings, but I haven't been around France that much either.

Some restaurants have been closed in Paris so I don't think there's that much restaurant (15) actually, there is 1 vegan fast-food (Maoz) near St-Michael in Paris, and about 10 vegetarian restaurants in the city center I think, fifteen seems far too much to my eyes...

Is any body here would like to come to the Veggie Pride in Paris?

    All the best,
